00:00Did you ever hear the story of the Fisher King?
00:04No.
00:07It begins with the king as a boy,
00:09having to spend the night alone in the forest
00:11to prove his courage so he can become king.
00:15And while he's spending the night alone,
00:18he's visited by a sacred vision.
00:22Out of the fire appears the Holy Grail,
00:25the symbol of God's divine grace.
00:30And a voice said to the boy,
00:31You shall be keeper of the Grail,
00:33so that it may heal the hearts of men.
00:37But the boy was blinded by greater visions
00:39of a life filled with power and glory and beauty.
00:44And in this state of radical amazement,
00:48he felt for a brief moment not like a boy,
00:53invincible, like God.
00:55So he reached in the fire to take the Grail,
00:59and the Grail vanished,
01:02leaving him with his hand in the fire to be terribly wounded.
01:07Now as this boy grew older,
01:10his wound grew deeper,
01:13until one day,
01:16life for him lost its reason.
01:19He had no faith in any man, not even himself.
01:23He couldn't love or feel loved.
01:26He was sick with experience.
01:29He began to die.
01:32One day, a fool wandered into the castle and found the king alone.
01:39Now being a fool, he was simple-minded.
01:41He didn't see a king.
01:43He only saw a man alone and in pain.
01:47And he asked the king,
01:48What ails you, friend?
01:51The king replied,
01:53I'm thirsty.
01:53I need some water to cool my throat.
01:59So the fool took a cup from beside his bed, filled it to water,
02:03and handed it to the king.
02:06As the king began to drink,
02:08he realized his wound was healed.
02:12He looked in his hands,
02:13and there was the holy grail,
02:15that which he sought all of his life.
02:17He turned to the fool and said with amazement,
02:19How could you find that which my brightest and bravest could not?
02:24The fool replied,
02:26I don't know.
02:29I only knew that you were thirsty.
02:34It's very beautiful, isn't it?
