00:01Long before Angel Reese became the WNBA's top defensive player, she was already making
00:07life difficult for opponents on youth basketball courts.
00:10A compilation of childhood footage shows Reese blocking shots, stealing the ball and refusing
00:16to give players an easy path to the basket.
00:19She does more than use her reach.
00:22Young Reese stays involved in every play, pressures the ball and reacts quickly whenever
00:27an opportunity to regain possession appears.
00:42Her persistence stands out as she continues contesting, reaching and moving with the action.
00:48The footage now carries additional meaning after Reese was named the 2026 Kia WNBA Defensive
00:55Player of the Year on October 1st.
00:57She became the first Atlanta Dream player to win the award after leading the league with
01:02521 rebounds and recording 77 steals.
01:06Years before receiving that honor, the disruptive defensive presence that became central to her
01:12game was already taking shape.
