00:02they need to control this game with possession so they can set up chances in the final third
00:07for Velda as a box-to-box midfielder and an experienced player from Argentina but the front
00:12three all three designated players need to step up tremendous atmosphere the Timbers army drumming
00:19away as always underway in Portland Timbers and five stripes right away the Timbers going down
00:33the left-hand side but you can't connect with Miranchuk it's out to Velda and Velda can't get
00:41away from the returning Diaz and Thomas Hakob. Hakob to the middle Miranchuk through the line so here's
00:48Mbolo racing into the box for Mbolo big save Pantamas Ronald Hernandez out on the other side
00:55against Almiron draws the foul this is what Marty Cifuentes wants to see it's really good because
01:03now you can see the entire midfield from Atlanta is out of balance Miumba having to slide all the way
01:08across and now you can switch the point of attack and create a 2v1 how about that skill Velda driving
01:13it goals wide I don't mind it from Velda as he tries to pump up the Timbers army as well
01:20in
01:20the back touch to bring it down and then yeah he wants to score a banger hits it from outside
01:25the box
01:25he's an entertainer he said that in his first press conference last summer when he saw Hakob
01:33Miranchuk straight into Waterman stays with it Miranchuk's cross blocked right back to him by
01:38Florey now with the left foot in towards Pantamas who makes the grab
01:44good ball oh there's an advantage Charra wants to go quickly Anthony out wide finding Bassett
01:50Lasseter in front of him Bassett charging forward for Portland Lasseter working against Baez leaves it for
01:57Bassett that's a pop back Velda save Hoyos and he somehow knocks it back to himself and covers to the
02:04head
02:04of Christopher Velda this is such a good play watch the pass from Bassett now he waits and makes this
02:09inside run as a number eight down to the end line and a good cutback cross but Hoyos is up
02:15to a really good
02:16save from close range Tocosta picks it off for Portland from Atlanta United but the passing hasn't
02:22really been crisp and sharp just yet
02:30Elopo get it away from Florey a throw in for Atlanta United
02:41in Atlanta on the road last week at DC United it ended nil-nil but they were the better team
02:45they outshot DC 19 to 4 they showed some good boots building on that foundation a little bit new tonight
02:54but yet to break through past James Pantamas
03:09Fauri
03:11it's a round chase by Mouyumba beautiful ball over the top for Velda
03:17Velda working on Hakko
03:19Velda great cutback
03:20Da Costa
03:21backside
03:22Lasseter
03:23side netting
03:25it almost like the ball is hanging in the air just so long that you have to think about it
03:29too much and it's less
03:30instinctual
03:31great cross from Da Costa
03:33there's just got to be a little bit more conviction there
03:37from Lasseter maybe you go with the laces and you hit this one hard on the full volley
03:41he tries to go for places
03:42both teams getting their
03:43playmaking midfielders involved in Galopo in his MLS debut
03:47I think they both have good starts to this game as well creating chances and trying to set up plays
03:51in the final third while also just being tidy on the ball
03:53great ball from Junior Alonso
03:55finds Al Miron
03:57ball across
03:58four he can't get there
03:59Mirenchuk
04:00back on his left
04:01Mirenchuk
04:02what a goal
04:09elation for Alexi Mirenchuk
04:12perfectly cushioned finish into the far corner
04:151-0 Atlanta
04:16he's never getting close to it
04:17because the ball starts outside the goal
04:19but this is a great play that started with Al Miron down the left side
04:23the cross gets through everybody
04:24and when Al Miron fakes to his right and goes back to his left
04:27he's already knows exactly what he wants to do
04:30watch as he gives a little body feint that he's gonna go right
04:33now it's back to left
04:35and as soon as he does that and has that space
04:37it's just a curling finish
04:39it's no power at all
04:41it's all finesse
04:43it's all technique
04:44it's all placement
04:45what a goal
04:49Alexi Mirenchuk's first goal
04:51since April 28th
04:53in the U.S. Open Cup
05:01Velda
05:02Hoyos tips it over
05:04it was just just outside that zone where it's easier to score from on a free kick
05:09but Velda does get it up and down and it is dipping away from Hoyos the whole time good save
05:16atlanta playing spoiler on the road back underway in portland
05:24with Sasha question i'm Evan Weston be happy to have you tonight on a gorgeous night
05:29here in the pacific northwest
05:35for portland is it just execution or is there more they can do in their build up or tactically to
05:40create more
05:49and then
05:52took the unorthodox move of going to mexico where he became a beloved player at monterey
05:57won multiple titles they were the team that bestowed upon him the el toro nickname
06:04and went over to antwerp where he was again very very good left on a free really under the radar
06:09pick up by portland to replace felipe mora but a nice bit of business from ned grabbovoy
06:15yeah it's a really good signing i really like the player that he could be in major league soccer
06:20just an instinctual finisher in the box miranchuk blocked by waterman
06:28miranchuk back on that left foot looking for paez heads across him
06:33can't get there as it goes fluttering wide for a goal kick he's missed an easy one there he's put
06:39himself in good position look at him waiting in an offside position now as the ball gets played he's
06:43back on side and there's just no conviction to the header there's got to be more conviction you have to
06:48recognize in this moment that is a golden opportunity to score you have to make no mistake about it
06:55another good opportunity to shoot either with the left foot from lasseter or right foot from belda
07:05lasseter lashes it over the bar too high from lasseter and doesn't have the dip good apple tv
07:16kelly gonzalez era beginning in miami good win in the campeones cup this week to lift another
07:22trophy for inter miami that was a big moment nice way to come in be a head coach immediately win
07:28a
07:28trophy could be worse amazing debut but miami needs to find a way to win more games at new stadium
07:34and
07:34hasn't been good enough edwards well positioned to deal with that from fourry
07:43got a very strong substitute appearance for edwards coming in for the injured hako
07:47off the ball theatrics aside he has been very good especially in 1v1 defending against
07:53velda velda has been neutralized and ball driving forward and to slide it across to miran
07:59too ambitious there just aren't enough numbers in attack for atlanta anymore they have not thrown
08:04anything forward it's almost like they're just playing prevent defense right now attacking with
08:09two players defending with eight it's tough to do over the course of 90 minutes i know you're holding
08:14on to a one nil lead on the road but there should be moments to attack still for atlanta united
08:19and it's
08:20not been very dynamic since we've come out of the halftime whistle
08:26i'll be wrong with a great tackle he looks up and there was nobody making a run here they come
08:32it's miranchuk driving forward good pass i'll be wrong that's a cross oh just skitters up over the
08:42hand of pantomis getting it back into play right away because he knows you'll see on this replay
08:47but al mirone had one thing to think about and that was a finish did it bounce over let's take
08:52a
08:52second look here ah maybe it did ian smith
08:59that pick out of the university of denver three late subs here for portland
09:15floated towards velva not from behind by diaz elfath plays on tell you what that one looked close to me
09:24diaz came over and was very physical phenomenal around sermon as we play on al mirone has a go that
09:33one straight at pantomis
09:51paulo diaz doing just enough there to avoid
09:59good
10:23lasseter
10:24towards Elias Baez, knotted down by Smith,
10:27who gets it out of Dodge, it won't matter.
10:29This game is over.
