A popular fan theory suggested a sweet connection between Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Kingdom Hearts via the iconic sea-salt ice cream. Find out what the developers had to say about this supposed Easter egg.
Transcript
00:00There's a point in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth where Rookie Turk's operative Elena enjoys a
00:04stick of sea salt ice cream, a custody aquamarine treat featured throughout the Kingdom Hearts
00:09series, which is also made by Square Enix. Some fans therefore assumed Elena's frozen dessert
00:14was a sweet self-reference, but Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi has
00:19shot that idea down. Hamaguchi tells the gamer in a new interview, it might be disappointing to
00:24hear this, but Elena's ice cream isn't a homage to Kingdom Hearts. Now, if you've suddenly started
00:28to hear a thousand distant howls, know that it isn't the wind. It's the lonely cries of
00:33Kingdom Hearts fans around the world realising the franchise they constantly fret about being
00:36dead is more comatose than they first assumed.
00:39Still, Kingdom Hearts 4 is definitely in production, the developer confirmed earlier this month,
00:44seven years after Kingdom Hearts 3 launched. Is Hamaguchi lying to us? Almost certainly not,
00:48but will that stop fans from believing in this supposed easter egg? I doubt it.
