📰 THE FULL STORY

A FlyDubai co-pilot stabbed his captain in an apparent attempt to crash Flight FZ1073, which was carrying 174 people, most of them Israelis, from Dubai to Tel Aviv. During the incident the plane dropped from 33,000 feet to 17,000 feet in about a minute before landing safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, with most of the rudder torn off the tail.

The wounded pilot, Capt. Smit Machchhar from Mumbai, opened the cockpit door so that a passenger and a crew member subdue the attacker. Israeli officials identified the attacker as an Omani national. The flight had been bound for Tel Aviv, and passengers walked out of the terminal at Ben Gurion International Airport on Wednesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Fox News that the co-pilot was suicidal and had undergone Islamic radical indoctrination, the first indication of a motive for the attack. An Israeli official said the co-pilot had the motive to kill Jews. Netanyahu also suggested that an axe have been used, and questions remained about how a weapon got past security screening.

UAE authorities, which have jurisdiction because the plane is registered there, are investigating whether the incident was linked to terrorist activity or prior planning. Israel has requested that the suspect be sent to Israel.

⬅️ HOW THE LEFT COVERS IT
Left coverage centers the radicalization framing attributed to Israeli officials, foregrounding Netanyahu's claim of Islamic radical indoctrination and an Israeli official's assertion of a motive to kill Jews. The emphasis falls on the attacker's identity as an Omani national and on the incident as a security lapse now under inquiry. This framing leads with the statements of Israeli authorities as the primary source for motive. (Washington Post, Washington Post)

⬛ HOW THE CENTER COVERS IT
Center coverage treats the event as an unresolved investigation, foregrounding verified operational details: the stabbing, the sharp altitude drop, the damaged rudder, and the safe landing in Tabuk. It stresses that UAE authorities hold jurisdiction and are probing possible terrorist links or prior planning, while noting Israel's request for the suspect and open questions about how a weapon passed security screening. The analytical read keeps the search for motive explicitly ongoing rather than settled. (CBC World, PBS NewsHour)

➡️ HOW THE RIGHT COVERS IT
Right coverage in the available material does not address the FlyDubai incident directly, instead foregrounding the broader question of U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq and the wider Middle East. The framing it pushes is about reducing
