00:00Later in the year following his retirement, his last game here at the Garden, April 18th, 1999
00:06with the Rangers against the Penguins, Shostarkin will shoot for the empty net!
00:11He scores! He scores!
00:14Igor has done it!
00:18The first Ranger goaltender to score a goal!
00:36Dave, we've been talking about it for years. He's come close on a couple of occasions.
00:42And finally, Igor Shostarkin with his first National Hockey League goal!
00:48I'll tell you, this joint is jumping with reason and his mates were jumping at an exuberant celebration.
00:56Oh, and it's a guy that now, we ended up last year with one of the best goaltending victory fights
01:03in ever.
01:03And he's now on the score sheet as a goal scorer.
01:07The Rangers' best player, Igor Shostarkin, makes it 5-1 here at Madison Square Garden.
01:17He's checking out the replays on Garden Vision.
01:20A moment he will never forget.
01:26Igor Shostarkin into the empty net.
01:31Something he's been thinking about and dreaming about
01:34throughout his entire hockey career.
01:40A nice lofter, and
01:43sweetly and softly
01:45gets to the back of the net
01:48and the celebration begins.
01:50Sean!
01:51Well, guys, how much do you think I can get for this puppy right here?
01:55And what I love about this,
01:57Kaz Marks, of course, the long-time recruitment manager of the Rangers,
02:00he doesn't treat it like it's any great big deal.
02:03It just says, number 31,
02:05first New York Ranger goal versus Tampa.
02:08It's as though a 21-year-old centerman or left-winger scored the goal.
02:13Not the first goaltender in Rangers history to go one end.
02:15But here's the ceremonial puck right there.
