A massive multi-vehicle crash occurred Thursday morning on I-95 near Santee, South Carolina, on the bridge over Lake Marion. Initial reports of 40 vehicles were later updated by local authorities and media to as many as 65 vehicles, including 15 tractor-trailers.

Dense fog was reported in the area, and visibility may have contributed to the chain-reaction crash, although officials have not confirmed the cause. Several people were injured, one person was airlifted to a hospital, and southbound I-95 remained closed during the cleanup.
