East African countries are racing to finish preparations ahead of AFCON 2027

With less than nine months to go before the start of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, host nations Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are scrambling to finish preparations amid rumours of a potential relocation.

00:00The next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is less than nine months away and the tournament's three host
00:06countries are racing to finish the preparations.
00:08The competition will kick off in June 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
00:13In September, a delegation of the Confederation of African Football visited the three countries to assess progress on infrastructure, including
00:21stadiums and training grounds.
00:23In Kenya, the flagship project is the Talenta Sports International Stadium in Nairobi.
00:28The facility has a capacity of 16,000 seats and is reportedly nearing completion.
00:33But construction is running late across the three nations and doubts remain over their ability to host such a massive
00:40event.
00:40On Monday, CAF President Patrice Motsepe said preparations were an emergency.
00:45According to French newspaper Le Monde, the organization has approached countries that could host a competition on short notice if
00:52needed.
