00:06When we left at, well, when they told us to leave at 8.53, Krista Pike was still breathing.
00:14They did two separate rounds of pentobarbital, which I've never seen before.
00:19The protocol does say that they should do a second round if the person is still alive.
00:31Basically, all I have to say is they went through two rounds, and she was still breathing at the end.
00:37It was very ragged.
00:38She lifted her head up and was looking around at one point.
00:41She said that there was a spot that was burning and hurting and asked if that was normal.
00:50None of it was normal.
00:52I covered all the executions last year, and most of the ones this year.
00:57We haven't seen anything like it.
01:04We have a lot of questions, and the Department of Correction has a lot of answers that it needs to
01:09provide to the public about what happened here.
01:12Why was it that by the time the blinds went down for the second time at 8.05, she was
01:18still breathing, and her breathing at points was very rhythmic.
01:22Now, at times, it appeared labored.
01:24She was snoring at times, but she was still breathing.
01:27I think where you could see her body rising at points sort of on and off the gurney.
01:32At one point, she lifted her entire head up.
01:34This is about 7.30 now.
01:36Nothing about today was normal, typical at all.
01:39And the court delay was just the tip of the iceberg.
01:43When we got inside, I think it was around 6.41, we got into the witness chamber.
01:47We were waiting there for almost an hour, which is unusual.
01:50Normally, it's 10, 15 minutes, and then things get underway.
01:54We could hear, like, a little crying and whimpering at times.
01:57But when the curtains finally opened, yeah, she said her last words, which you heard.
02:02She kept them about herself.
02:05She mentioned her haters or people who don't like her and mentioned that she was looking forward to being free.
02:11I don't know exactly what the rock means, but it signifies often that that's believed to be when the process
02:18begins to wait for her.
02:20Hike said she was going to leave this world the way I spent most of my life, and that is
02:24in love.
02:25She said she had love for the people who were out here hating on her.
02:30She closed her statement with saying, quote, I'm at peace, I'm ready to be free.
02:34Then something about celebrating her freedom, and then she closed with, this is a happy day.
02:41The execution got underway.
02:43Her spiritual advisor sang with her a song.
02:46Couldn't hear the lyrics, but it repeatedly said, I love you.
02:49He stroked her head.
02:50I would say that Pike appeared notably awake as the execution began.
02:55So, thank you.
02:55So, thank you very much.
