00:01A 3.5 trillion euro annual financing gap, that's how much the United Nations said countries around the world must
00:09close to ensure that sustainable development targets set just over a decade ago would be reached by 2030.
00:16The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank brings together global leaders, policymakers and investors to its annual meeting, held this year in
00:24Qatar, to tackle one of the biggest questions in sustainable development.
00:28How can we finance the infrastructure of the future and ensure it delivers for the communities it serves?
00:37For Asia alone, the AIIB says around 2.6 trillion euros in infrastructure investments each year is needed to meet
00:45the continent's needs.
00:47In her first annual meeting address as president of AIIB, Zoe Jai reiterated the bank's commitment to boosting financing and
00:55called for deeper collaboration amongst members.
00:58The bank's goal for the next stage is to scale up development impact with innovation and integrity.
01:08We aim to broadly double annual financing by 2030 to around 20 billion U.S. dollars.
01:18We will add value where we have a comparative advantage.
01:22Cooperation is also at the heart of infrastructure.
01:28Infrastructure facilitates connections and building it requires collaboration across borders, institutions and markets.
01:39Zoe also laid out the bank's priorities, focusing on sectors like green infrastructure, transportation and connectivity, technological innovation and boosting
01:48private sector investments.
01:50As a founding member of the AIIB, Qatar is committed to delivering these common goals, especially as a bridge which
01:57connects Asia to the West.
01:59Qatar comes to these discussions as a founding shareholder, as an investor in infrastructure across Asia and beyond,
02:07and as a country that has learned this year how much resilient infrastructure matters.
02:13Qatar was one of the founding members in 2015 because we believe that Asia needed a new institution-focused infrastructure
02:21development run to the highest standards and open to the whole world, 11 years on.
02:29One way the Gulf state has advanced its role as a founding member is through the Qatar Fund for Development,
02:35a government institution which aims to improve the livelihoods of communities around the world through developing infrastructure, healthcare and education.
02:46AIIB's platform is really important to create a new partnership, identify co-investment opportunities,
02:53additionally to increasing the capital mobilization towards the development and sustainability.
02:57We want to empower them to be partners in development and to shift towards from grants to loan and investment
03:09to enable them to grow and generate income and have a more sustainable life which eventually helps in developing others'
03:17lives.
03:17A handover ceremony marked the transfer of host country duties from Qatar to Azerbaijan, where the 12th edition of the
03:26annual meeting will be held.
03:28The AIIB is funding major green energy infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan,
03:33and Baku will look to further deepen its partnership with the Bank in regional connectivity projects, solar plants and climate
03:41finance.
