No. If you have a latex allergy, skip a natural latex pillow, including a clean, low-VOC one. Latex allergy is triggered by proteins in the latex itself, and those proteins are present in all natural latex, so how carefully the latex was tapped or processed does not remove them.
That can feel odd, because natural latex often turns up on lists of pillows for sensitive sleepers. Those lists are about off-gassing. Memory foam is polyurethane, a petroleum foam, and it releases volatile compounds, most strongly when it is new and as it warms under your head. People with asthma often move to natural fills for that reason. A natural fill has no petrochemical to release. Latex clears that bar. An allergy to the latex proteins is a separate question. For anyone who has one, it settles the matter.
So what does a latex-allergic sleeper who also wants a clean pillow choose instead? The script behind this video names three: organic cotton, kapok and wool.
Organic cotton is the dense, supportive option. Our cotton pillow is GOTS Certified Organic under the Global Organic Textile Standard, which certifies the finished pillow, cover and fill together.
Kapok is the softest and most down-like. The fiber is plant-based, so it carries none of the feather allergens of down, and it reaches the pillow with no chemical processing step. It sits low to medium in height, so a sleeper who needs more neck support adds fill through the zipper.
Wool is soft and springy with medium support. It is not vegan, which rules it out for some households before anything else comes into it.
For neck support without foam or latex, buckwheat hulls are the firm option: the hulls flex under your head and then lock together to hold the curve of your neck.
Two more things hold whichever fill you pick. Look for a cover you can take off and wash in cool water, so the week-to-week dust and dander load stays down. And a pillow is not a treatment for asthma or allergy. It can keep common triggers lower in the air around your head, and your own care plan still does the rest.
