00:15The Chinese President Xi Jinping, together with other leaders of the Communist Party and the Chinese State,
00:22took part this morning in a ceremony in front of the Monument to the People's Hero.
00:28Here, in Beijing, at the heart of Tiananmen Square, alongside the Chinese leaders, representatives from different sectors of society took
00:39part in the ceremony,
00:41including military personnel, children's workers, and representatives of the country's ethnic minority groups.
00:51The ceremony included the presentation of large flowers baskets in tribute.
00:57Xi Jinping and the other leaders then climbed the base of the monument, adjusted the ribbons on the floral tributes,
01:06and paid their respects to the people's heroes.
01:09The Mortar's Day is commemorated every September 30th and was officially established in China in 2014, one day before the
01:23anniversary of the building of the People's Republic of China.
01:28The day honors those who lost their lives in the struggles for national independence, liberation, and sovereignty.
01:38The monument to the people's heroes was built in 1958.
01:43In 1958, its inscriptions trace the historical monument back to 8040, with the First Opium War and the beginning of
01:54what China calls the Century of Humiliation, a period marked by wars and foreign intervention.
