00:00You know, those ridges on the sides of coins haven't always been there.
00:04Back in the 18th century, people would file the coins down to make new coins later, which is not legal.
00:11To end this, the U.S. meant engraved ridges onto coins to show if they had been tampered with.
00:16The filing down of coins stopped, but the tradition has stayed.
00:20A picture frame that's fallen because one of the hangers has come off has a simple fix.
00:25No one will ever see it either.
00:27Grab the nearest soda can and bend the pull tab off.
00:30Then simply screw it into where the hanger broke.
00:34Bend the end slightly out and hang it back up.
00:37If you don't have space for a greenhouse, try soda bottle greenhouses.
00:41Each seed gets its own micro greenhouse.
00:44Just cut the bottom off the bottles and remove the labels so you can see them better.
00:49Remove the greenhouses once the seeds have germinated and cuttings are established.
00:54Orbit chewing gum is easily one of the most recognized logos in the entire world.
00:59It's got a neatly hidden symbol on the label as well.
01:03The capital O is split into two parts.
01:06One dark for the night and one light for the day.
01:09Just like our planet orbiting the sun.
01:12Peeling garlic is probably one of the most smelly and annoying jobs of cooking.
01:17The peel sticks to everything, and your hands will smell like garlic forever.
01:22Well, simply pop the cloves into a microwave for 10 seconds, and they'll squeeze them right out of their paper
01:28shells.
01:29Or grab a jar, place the cloves inside, and give it a good shake.
01:33The peel will come right off.
01:59Cutting cherry tomatoes can be a tedious task.
02:02One tomato at a time.
02:04There is a quicker way to do it.
02:06Try placing a bunch of them between two plates.
02:09Hold the top plate and carefully cut between them with your knife.
02:13Perfectly cut cherry tomato halves.
02:15Many color printers have added dots to printed documents, without anyone even knowing they're there.
02:21They become more visible when magnified and photographed with the help of a blue LED flashlight.
02:27The position of the dots reveals the time, date, and a serial number of the device used during the printing.
02:34Next time you're on a plane and get the aisle seat, look for the hidden button on the armrest.
02:39Feel around near the hinge at the back, and you should find a button.
02:44This releases the armrest lock, instantly allowing it to swing up.
02:48Once it's level with your seat, it won't press into your side anymore.
02:51It'll also give you more room to move your legs around.
02:56Flight crews are known to use a system of chimes and bells to communicate across the entire plane.
03:01These chime messages could be about anything, from the number of remaining snacks, turbulence ahead, or a storm upcoming on
03:09the flight path.
03:09Sometimes, the chimes can be a signal from the cockpit to alert a route change or an emergency.
03:16Fonts that we use to print documents actually used to be named after their creators.
03:22Garamond was named after its creator, Claude Garamond, a famous French printer who was commissioned by the King of France
03:28to create a new font.
03:29His font became the stock standard until the 18th century.
03:33Garamond is still one of the most economical fonts to use to save ink while printing.
03:39Nintendo Switch cartridges have a hidden safety feature that stops people from sticking them in their mouths.
03:45That's an issue? Apparently.
03:47Although non-toxic, denotonium benzoate coats the cartridge in a sour, peppery, and bitter substance to prevent people from swallowing
03:55them.
03:56Being one of the most bitter flavors known to humanity, it's commonly used to keep people from consuming things they're
04:02not meant to.
04:04A vegetable peeler isn't just for peeling potatoes, zucchini, or carrots.
04:08Try shaving onion for thin slices.
04:11This will speed up the process before getting teary-eyed.
04:14Perfect thin slices of cheese can also be achieved with the peeler.
04:18The eagle on the back of the dollar bill has 13 stars above it to represent the first 13 colonies.
04:25But that's not the only 13.
04:27There are 13 arrows, 13 olive branch leaves, 13 olive fruits, 13 stars above the eagle, 13 steps of the
04:36pyramid, and 13 bars on the shield.
04:39Strangely, but probably just a coincidence, the words Anuit sepsis and E pluribus unum also have 13 letters.
04:48Lemons can be used as a deodorant, air freshener, polish, bug repellent, hair lightener, and to help rice not stick
04:56to the rice cooker or pot.
04:57Just add a little squeeze into the cooker before turning it on.
05:01How about that?
05:02Oh, and they also make pretty good lemonade, too.
05:05Copper and brass items start to look a little bit tarnished over time.
05:09Use some ketchup and salt to bring back that shine.
05:12Place the mixture into a rag and rub it into whatever needs that sparkle again.
05:17Cover every bit of the surface, then simply rinse off and dry.
05:23Forget trying to break your nails trying to open key rings again.
05:26Grab a staple remover, the one that looks like a mouth, and wedge its teeth between the coils to open
05:32it up easily.
05:33If the key or whatever you're putting on there still won't fit, just push down further until it's wide enough.
05:40Tap the home button three times on an iPhone to turn it into a convenient magnifying glass.
05:46Use the slider to control the zoom, and it even has an optional flashlight if you need it in the
05:51dark.
05:52Perfect for reading tiny print, finding interesting tiny insects, or maybe even looking closely at jewelry.
06:00Microwavable instant rice packets can fall over if not placed properly.
06:04Pull out the bottom flaps for a sturdier base and to cook that rice better.
06:09An easy, cheap, and environmentally safe way to start seedlings is to save your toilet paper rolls.
06:15Cut the tubes in half and place them on a suitable tray.
06:18Fill them up with potting soil and seeds and start watering.
06:22Once the seeds have germinated, you can just place them into the soil with the tube.
06:26It'll break down quickly.
06:29Windows 10 has a lot of hidden secrets and useful tools for users that aren't used enough,
06:34such as the Task Manager, Device and Disk Management, and File Explorer.
06:40Instead of searching around, just right-click on the Windows button or use Windows Key plus X to bring up
06:46the menu.
06:47Quickly minimize all windows except the active one without using the Show Desktop function.
06:52With Windows 10, all that's needed is to grab the window by its title bar and give it a good
06:58ol' shape.
06:59All inactive windows will minimize and won't close the window that's open.
07:04A pudding or applesauce with no spoon doesn't need to be a tragedy.
07:09Don't worry, there's a hidden trick with a foil.
07:12It can be turned into a quick spoon by folding it into one.
07:15Better than using your fingers, huh?
07:17Progress bars aren't as accurate as we believe.
07:20Downloads and transfers have many variables beyond the control of the computer system.
07:25A progress bar at 50% doesn't mean half of the file has been downloaded.
07:30Almost all the files could have been downloaded, or none.
07:34Internet speeds and network availability are the real organizers of how quickly a download will complete,
07:40while the computer's hard drive is the one processing and placing the files where they need to be.
07:46The green paste that comes with sushi sometimes isn't wasabi.
07:50It's horseradish.
07:52Most fake wasabi is made from a blend of horseradish, mustard flour, cornstarch, and green food colorant.
07:58Real wasabi is very expensive and with a milder taste.
08:03If the chef doesn't make it in front of you, it's not going to be the real thing.
08:08Removing a trash bag from the bin can be messy,
08:10especially when the bag seems to be holding onto it for dear life.
08:14By drilling a small hole in the bottom of your trash can,
08:17it'll fix the air pressure difference that creates the vacuum seal.
08:22Dropping a juice box when it's open can turn a day of cleaning up into a sticky mess.
08:27Luckily, the manufacturers put little handles in just for this reason, even if we don't see them.
08:33The flaps at the top of the juice box can be pushed upward, creating a makeshift holder.
08:38Next time you're feeling a little clumsy, fold those corners out and feel a little more at ease.
08:44Open rigid plastic clamshell packaging as if it were just a simple can.
08:49The sharp wheels of any can opener can cut the plastic without the hassle of using scissors or knives.
08:55It won't curl around the corners, so just cut open one side and tear it apart.
09:01Play-Doh was never made for playtime.
09:04This putty was originally for cleaning up walls in the 1930s.
09:08The simple ingredients of flour, water, salt, and food coloring can keep children, and some adults, amused for hours.
09:16It's the easiest modeling clay, and it's not expensive.
09:19Once wallpapers became the new craze, soapy water worked just fine.
09:24Play-Doh had to find a new use, and it did.
09:28Analog watches can do much more than telling the time.
09:31If you need to step away from your computer for a little while, and it keeps making you log back
09:36in,
09:37place your laser mouse over the top of an analog watch.
09:40The mouse will read the ticking hands and keep your computer open.
09:44Now, who would have thought?
09:48Over 40 billion Oreos are made every single year.
09:51It's the world's most popular manufactured cookie.
09:54The geometric design stamped into these cookies has the Nabisco logo,
09:59the symbol of European quality, surrounding the word Oreo.
10:03William Tournier created the chocolate cookie design we see today, back in 1952.
10:09Headphone jacks might become a thing of the past because of wireless technology.
10:14But if you've seen one, you might have noticed the rings at the base of the plug.
10:18One ring means single-sound playback.
10:21Two rings represent stereo sound in the left and right ear,
10:24while three rings means you've got stereo and a microphone built in.
10:29Now, the iconic orange, red, purple, yellow, and lime-green rings of Froot Loops hide a deep secret within.
10:37They don't represent different fruit flavors.
10:39All those rings are the same fruit flavors blended together.
10:43The colors are just for show.
10:45Hmm.
10:46The E in Dell's logo is at an angle because the founder, Michael Dell,
10:52wanted his technology to turn the world on its ear.
10:55A compass uses magnets to point to the magnetic north pole,
10:59but it's not really north at all.
11:01The north pole of a compass magnet points toward the north because the north and south attract.
11:07Earth's south magnetic pole is near the geographic north,
11:11while the north pole is near Earth's geographic south.
11:15Confusing, isn't it?
11:16Those little red spots you sometimes see after you crack an egg are nothing to be worried about.
11:23Tiny blood spots can be caused by a small rupture in the blood vessel of the hen as it was
11:28laying the egg.
11:29Eggs with these blood spots are safe to eat,
11:31but that spot can be removed if you want.
11:34It won't affect the taste of the egg.
11:36That's comforting.
11:38Ketchup is a word taken from many cultures,
11:41like Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian.
11:44It originally meant a pickled fish sauce.
11:47Ketchup is also an acceptable spelling use.
11:50However, ketchup is the most popular way it's spelled these days.
11:55Airbnb's logo isn't a bent paperclip, as it may seem to be.
12:00Bella, as it's called for belonging, means more than that.
12:04There's a person's head, the location symbol, and a heart for love.
12:08All joined together, they make Airbnb's iconic A and symbol of togetherness.
12:15E120, or natural red 4, food coloring, aka carmine, is made from tiny beetles.
12:21It's been used to color anything from cakes to candy, to even drinks.
12:26That shine on candy also comes from bugs.
12:29This time, it's the Indian female lac bug.
12:33The beetle leaves behind a substance that is scraped from the trees
12:36to be formed into dry shellac that gives that glossy look.
12:41The Mozilla Firefox logo isn't a fox at all surrounding the planet.
12:46It's a red panda instead.
12:48The name Firefox is the English translation of its Chinese name.
12:52Those maintenance covers in the street are round for safety reasons.
12:57In past civilizations, like ancient Rome, manholes, that's what they were called back then,
13:03were square-shaped slabs of stone.
13:05Unfortunately, these were prone to accidents.
13:08If they weren't placed properly, a square cover could slip through the square hole diagonally.
13:13Ow!
13:14Placing a round cover eliminated this problem.
13:17A circle cover won't slip inside because there are no angles.
13:21A tomato isn't technically a vegetable, but a fruit.
13:25Banana trees aren't related to palm trees or trees at all.
13:29They're herbs.
13:30Banana is considered an herb because it never builds a woody trunk the way a tree does.
13:36Instead, it forms a succulent stalk, like lemongrass or its cousin, ginger.
13:41You can call them berries as well.
13:43The Golden Gate Bridge color wasn't meant to be the orangey-red that it is today.
13:48The bridge's original color was suggested to be many other colors, such as black with yellow stripes or even candy
13:56cane to make it visible for passing ships and aircraft, especially in the frequent San Francisco fog.
14:04But when the steel arrived, covered in an orange primer to protect it from rust, the architect preferred the international
14:11orange color, and it stuck.
14:14Those legs on the back of keyboards aren't an ergonomic design to help your wrist sit better.
14:20Using the legs out for too long can tire and hurt your wrists, plus slowing your typing down.
14:26The hinge legs are just there to help you see the letters and numbers better if you don't know how
14:31to touch type.
14:33The color of a chili pepper reveals nothing about its taste or heat.
14:38The smaller a chili is, the hotter it'll usually be.
14:41The heat doesn't come from the seeds, as believed, but the white membranes that hold them.
14:47Hidden within the Toblerone logo of the mountain is the image of a bear standing on its hind legs, about
14:54to eat that yodeler over there.
14:56No, not really.
14:57This is because bears are a big part of Bern, one of the biggest cities in Switzerland, where the founder
15:03created the triangle chocolate tree.
15:06Toblerone is also a play on the founder's family name, Tobler, and the Italian word, Tyrone, for honey and almond
15:13nougat.
15:13The space below a cup of noodles is there to protect the noodles during transport.
15:19This technique is called a middle suspension.
15:22Not only are they protected better in their styrofoam cup, but it also helps those noodles soften more evenly and
15:28quickly.
15:29Now, even though you might have thought that the hole in the barrel of a ballpoint pen had no purpose,
15:35it does.
15:36It's called a venting system, which helps the ink flow more smoothly.
15:41This way, an even amount of air pressure is created inside and outside the pen, allowing the ink to flow
15:48into the point easily.
15:49One of the most recognized logos in the cycling world has a hidden item in its famous logo.
15:56Inside the Tour de France name, a cyclist hides in the O, U, and R.
16:02Those metal brackets on the top of the nozzles in gas stations have a unique design put into place in
16:09case of accidents.
16:10If a dodo accidentally forgets the nozzle is still inside the gas tank and starts driving away,
16:17the magnetic brackets separate without damaging any part of the gas pump.
16:22Wendy's logo is designed off of the daughter of creator Dave Thomas.
16:26It's also named after her nickname, but there is more to the logo than that.
16:32Wendy's collar spells out the word mom.
16:34While unintentional, it became something to mean a homey feel more than any other restaurant out there.
16:41Finding the right lane to be in while driving for your exit can sometimes be confusing, especially in a foreign
16:48country.
16:49Pay attention to the side of the road that exit signs are located.
16:53It'll be the lane you need to be in.
16:56Some toothpaste has a little seal on them that needs to be removed before you can use them.
17:01Instead of peeling back the foil layer, the toothpaste lid has a little spike on the top just for this
17:08reason.
17:09Tostitos have a secret symbol hidden right in the middle of their name.
17:13The two T's in the middle of the logo resemble two people enjoying Tostitos over a bowl of salsa.
17:20The salsa bowl is in red and forms the dot in the eye.
17:24One of the most recognizable figures in the world, the Statue of Liberty, for 16 years, functioned as a fully
17:32operational lighthouse.
17:34However, the light was barely visible, even from Manhattan.
17:37In 1901, it was eventually decommissioned as a lighthouse.
17:42Tourists could even visit the torch for a stunning view of the city.
17:45But an accident damaged the Statue of Liberty's torch in 1916, and it's been closed to the public ever since.
17:53The Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law tag on mattresses isn't put there for the consumer or void your
18:00warranty either if you do remove them.
18:03In the 1900s, manufacturers used to create the filling with basically anything.
18:08Animal hair, old hospital beds, or clothing.
18:12It didn't matter at the time.
18:13Strict laws created the tags to stop recycled materials from being used and sold as new.
18:20Good thing!
18:21Toyota's symbol is more than just some random rings combined.
18:25The three overlapping ovals symbolize the merge of the hearts of consumers and Toyota together.
18:31A California sushi roll is made of seaweed, rice, cucumber, avocado, and crab meat.
18:38But it's not crab meat at all.
18:40Cereme is an imitation crab meat.
18:44It's made of white fish blended with sugar instead of crustaceans.
18:47The fish mixture is then heated and pressed into shape.
18:51The logo for beats is just a lowercase b inside of a red circle.
18:56The circle represents a human head, with the b being the headphones in their shape.
19:02All those little black dots around the edges of car windows are called frits.
19:07A frit is a painted black enamel that's put into windshields during manufacturing.
19:12They block ultraviolet rays and help distribute temperatures between the metal and glass.
19:17There are 24 symbols hidden inside the Unilever logo.
19:21Let's count, shall we?
19:23The sun, dove, plant, spark, chili pepper, spoon, bowl, flower, ice cream, hand, hair, lips, swirl,
19:34fish, clothes, bee, particles, packaging, transformation, waves, DNA, palm trees, heart, and virtuous cycle, whatever that is.
19:46These represent everything that the company believes in and produces.
19:50DNA?
19:52Bobby pins are designed so that the zigzag part goes onto your scalp, not the flat part.
19:57It gives a greater grip on the hair and skin, making the pins stay in longer.
20:03The story that the pins were named after those fashionable London constables, called Bobby's, is not true.
20:10I made it up.
20:12Hey, if you're using your phone to watch something and are tired of propping it up and having it fall
20:18back down,
20:20try using your sunglasses.
20:21Simply place them upside down and use the parts that go around your ears to hold the phone in place.
20:28You can put old newspaper at the bottom of your trash bags to absorb food juices.
20:33This way, when you come to take out the trash, you don't get that gross liquid dripping on your floor.
20:40If you have flowers that are starting to droop, try placing a copper coin in the water.
20:45Copper is a natural fungicide, so adding a penny to the water helps protect your flowers from bacteria.
20:52This way, your flowers will stay fresh for longer.
20:56You can use the spring from an old pen to stop your charger's wire bending and fraying.
21:02Just take out the spring and wrap it around the top of the wire near the connector.
21:07Moving objects through a door when it keeps closing is super annoying.
21:11So instead, tie a rubber band around the handle on each side of the door so that it crosses over
21:18the latch.
21:19The latch then won't be able to pop out and the door won't lock shut.
21:25You can use a paper clip to find the end of your tape.
21:28Simply place the clip under the end of the tape and you'll never have to hunt again.
21:34To check whether your bed sheets are fully dried, take a mirror and place it underneath.
21:39Leave it there for around five minutes, and if it steams up, it means the sheets are still damp.
21:45A damp bed can be a breeding ground for mold and other nasty fungi.
21:51Running a post-it note over your laptop keyboard will help get rid of the built-up grime and any
21:57pesky bits of food.
21:59Now wait, you don't actually eat at the computer, do you?
22:03Instead of filling your purse or wallet with store loyalty cards, you can take a photo of them.
22:09Just take one snap of the barcode as well as a picture of the front so you know which card
22:14it is.
22:15Then, when you visit the store, just scan the barcode on your phone to collect your points.
22:21Forgot to put your drink in the fridge?
22:23Wrap a wet paper towel around it and put it in the freezer.
22:27In just 15 minutes, your drink will be ice cold.
22:31You can paint the end of your keys with different colored nail polish so you can easily identify which key
22:38is which.
22:39To stop your wrapping paper from enrolling, you can cut open an old toilet paper roll and use it as
22:45a cup.
22:47In order to pour the perfect amount of oil or salad dressing, poke holes in the foil seal rather than
22:54removing it completely.
22:55This prevents a big amount rushing out quickly.
22:58To prevent band-aids from slipping off your finger, cut a line on either side.
23:04The band-aid, not the finger.
23:06This will create four smaller sticky strips rather than one large one and it will be much easier to secure.
23:14When your candle is burned down and the wick is difficult to reach with a lighter, you can use a
23:19stick of spaghetti.
23:21Just light the end and you'll have a longer stick that burns just as well so you can get to
23:26those hard-to-reach places.
23:28Secure a rubber band over the top of your paint can so that you can wipe excess paint onto it.
23:35This stops paint running down the sides of your can and keeps things neat and tidy.
23:40If you're struggling to get your taco shells to stay in place, use a muffin tray.
23:46Flip the tray upside down, spray it with oil, and place your tortillas in the gap.
23:52Cook them for around 10 minutes at 700 degrees for the perfect crispy taco shell.
23:58You can use a water bottle to separate egg yolks.
24:01Hold the bottle over the yolk and squeeze it to suck the yolk up.
24:06Drop it into a separate bowl and you're good to go.
24:10Looking for a lost earring or a pin on the floor?
24:14Place a stocking over the end of your vacuum and move it over the floor.
24:18The small object will get picked up without getting vacuumed.
24:22Next time you're struggling to clean your ceiling fan, use a pillowcase.
24:27Slide the pillowcase over each blade to wipe off the dust.
24:31This way, excess dust is caught inside the pillowcase and won't rain down on you.
24:37Poke a straw through your cherries to remove the stems.
24:41It's much quicker and this way you don't waste as much fruit.
24:45If you're struggling to put a bracelet on your own hand, try using a paper clip.
24:50Open up the paper clip and slip it through the loops on the end of your bracelet.
24:55Hold the clip in the middle of your hand with your fingers, then flip the bracelet around your wrist.
25:01You should then be able to easily clasp it shut.
25:05To properly clean your blender, fill it with soap and hot water.
25:09Switch it on for around 10 seconds and let the swirling water do the hard work.
25:15Then just rinse it off and it's clean.
25:18Put down a strip of masking tape before nailing into plaster walls.
25:23The tape should stop the plaster from flaking or spreading dust all over the floor.
25:28When you're heating up leftovers, make a space in the middle with a spoon.
25:33The food will heat up much more evenly.
25:36Avoid the mess and frustration of peeling an orange by slicing off one end of the fruit.
25:42Then cut four to six slices and you'll find the peel will come off much easier.
25:48If you're struggling to use your butter because it's too cold, try using a cheese grater.
25:54Just grate the butter to make your life much easier.
25:57You can make a DIY garden sprinkler using an old plastic bottle.
26:02Punch some holes all over the bottle and then tape it to the end of your hose pipe.
26:07If your shoes smell bad, put a few dry teabags into the shoe.
26:12The teabags will absorb the smell.
26:15Potato chips are a perfect fire starter.
26:18The fat, oil, and chemicals inside make them super easy to burn.
26:22And yet we still eat them.
26:25Can you see the irony?
26:27Try using toothpaste to remove small scratches on furniture.
26:31Rub a pea-sized amount on the scratch in a circular motion until the scratch buffs out.
26:37Then wipe it with a damp cloth and voila!
26:41Candle wax that's been spilled on furniture can be removed with ice cubes.
26:46Rather than ruining the finish by trying to scrape it off, fill a plastic bag with ice and let it
26:52sit on the wax for a few minutes.
26:54The wax will then cool and harden, making it much easier to pick off.
27:00Drill a couple of small holes in the bottom of your trash can to stop the bag getting stuck when
27:06you pull it down.
27:07The holes stop the vacuum-like effect that keeps the bag pinned down.
27:12Crayon marks on the wall are a parent's nightmare, but you can use a hair dryer to get them off.
27:18Keep the marks for a few seconds to soften the wax, and then you should be able to just wipe
27:24it away.
27:25If you don't have the correct size coin to put in your shopping cart next time you go to the
27:30supermarket, you can use your key instead.
27:33If you have a key with a rounded end, you can insert that where the coin would go, and the
27:38cart should unlock.
27:40You can easily remove the sticky residue from jars using cooking oil.
27:44Soak a cotton pad in some oil, then rub it on the sticky area.
27:48Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then it should wipe away easily.
27:53Attach a clothespin just under the head of your toothbrush to stop it from falling onto the dirty countertop.
28:01Maybe you should also clean your dirty countertop.
28:04To stop heavy flower pots from damaging your surfaces, stick furniture sliders to the bottom of the pot.
28:12You can use hair conditioner to make that new wool sweater less itchy.
28:16Just soak it in lukewarm water with a couple of tablespoons of conditioner and leave it for 15 minutes.
28:23Then just dry it, and your sweater will be much softer.
28:27You can even wear it while you clean your dirty countertop.
28:31Now, who would have guessed that the most important accessory in your car might be a nail file?
28:37In case you need to get your nails done right away?
28:40Nah, to refresh your wipers.
28:42Wipers have a rubber that cleans the glass.
28:44It wipes water and particles of dirt and insects off the windshield.
28:49Over time, this rubber strip gets covered with a layer of dirt, and the wipers stop doing their thing.
28:54So, all you have to do is take the wipers off and rub them with a nail file.
28:58This will remove the layer of dirt, and your wipers will last for a few more months.
29:03This is especially important during the cold season, when you need to constantly clean your car of snow.
29:09This trick will not only help you see through your windshield better and make driving safer,
29:13but it will also save you a lot of money on new wipers.
29:17Hey, you parked badly and hit your car on a pole.
29:20Well, a small dimple can be fixed with an ice cube.
29:24Just lean a piece of dry ice on the impact site, and voila!
29:29The bumper looks like new.
29:30But this method is only suitable for metal parts.
29:34It's about thermal expansion.
29:36When metal gets hot, it expands, and when it cools, it tries to shrink.
29:40So, when you put ice on the dimple, there's tension inside the metal that causes it to return to its
29:46previous shape.
29:47You can also use a regular suction cup, like the ones they use to transport glass.
29:52Just stick it to the dent and then pull.
29:55A regular plunger that you use to clean a clogged sink will also work for this.
30:00Now, let's try to hide the scratches at the impact site.
30:03Try picking up a regular nail polish the same color as your car.
30:07Usually, scratches on the bodywork are not deep,
30:10and they only damage the top layer of clear coat and don't even penetrate to the layer of paint itself.
30:15A fresh batch of nail polish will fill the scratch, and your car will look like new.
30:21And if you've damaged your car windshield somehow, and you see little cracks forming there, use transparent nail polish.
30:28Again, the nail polish fills in the micro hollows in the crack and keeps it from getting even bigger.
30:34Now, a couple of tricks to keep your car clean at all times.
30:37Boy, I could use that.
30:38Let's start with the headlights.
30:40If you can't get the headlights cleaned from insects after a long drive, use a regular shaver.
30:46It can scrape off unwanted dirt that has stuck to the headlights.
30:49You can do the same with the windshield.
30:51Just don't press too hard, or you might scratch the glass.
30:55And to keep your headlights clean, no matter what,
30:58you need to take a regular candle and white spirit and common solvent.
31:02Grade the candle and pour it into a glass.
31:05Add the solvent to the glass and heat the glass with a hairdryer.
31:08Now, apply this to your headlights or even your windshield.
31:11This will create a protective wax layer that will repel dirt and water droplets.
31:16You can also apply wax to your side mirrors, and they won't get covered in water when it rains.
31:21If your headlights still do get dirty, squeeze some toothpaste on a dry rag and polish your headlights.
31:27Toothpaste does a much better job than conventional cleaners.
31:30Plus, they don't get cavities.
31:33To protect your car's bodywork from dirt and rain, use hair conditioner.
31:37Mix one portion of the hair conditioner and two portions of water.
31:41Apply this mixture to the car with a microfiber cloth.
31:44It's important to do it to the car when it's as clean as possible.
31:48It's perfect timing to do this after you wash it.
31:51Then wait five minutes and dry the car.
31:53This protection will now repel any drops of dirt and rain.
31:57Now to the interior.
31:59You may have noticed that the windshield and rear window often fog up.
32:03This is because the water that is contained in the warm interior air comes into contact with the cold windows
32:09of the car.
32:10Water condenses, turns into droplets, and stays on the window.
32:14Now take your regular shaving foam and put it on the windshield from the inside.
32:19A portion the size of your fist is enough for the entire windshield.
32:22Wait a few minutes and wipe the windshield with a dry cloth.
32:25The chemicals in the shaving foam will repel water droplets from your windshield so it won't fog up.
32:32You can also fight moisture in the interior of the car in the first place.
32:36To do this, take an ordinary sock and fill it with kitty litter, if your cat doesn't mind.
32:42Tie the sock up and just put it in the car.
32:44Kitty litter will absorb moisture from the air in the car, and your windows will stay dry.
32:49And this sock can come in handy in a tough situation.
32:52So, you're stuck in a field in snowy weather.
32:55The wheels are spinning in the snow, and your car is standing still.
32:58Well, just sprinkle some kitty litter out of the sock right in front of your car's driving wheels.
33:04The traction of the wheels will get better, and you'll be able to get out of the snow trap.
33:09But what if your battery is low in a deserted place?
33:12There's no one to help you start the car.
33:14Well, get a jack and lift the drive wheels of your car.
33:17Make sure you're doing it safely.
33:19Now, get a tow rope.
33:21You should always have one in your car.
33:23Wrap the rope around the wheel so that when you pull it, the wheel simulates movement forward.
33:28Put the car in first gear.
33:30Turn the ignition key.
33:31Now, start to quickly unwind the rope so that the wheel starts to turn.
33:36Voila!
33:36The car is starting.
33:38It's like starting a car by pushing it.
33:40It's important to remember that this trick only works with cars with a manual gearbox.
33:46If you don't want to spill oil when you pour it into the engine, just put a screwdriver in the
33:50hole and pour oil over it.
33:52The more advanced option is to use the oil can as a watering can.
33:57The thing is, the threads on it fit perfectly with the threads on the engine hole.
34:01So, take an empty oil can and cut off the bottom.
34:04Now, screw the canister into the hole and pour oil without fear of spilling it on the engine.
34:10If a door handle or lock gets frozen in the winter, use regular hand sanitizer.
34:16It'll melt the ice almost instantly.
34:18You can also soak a key in hand sanitizer and put it in the lock.
34:22You should be able to open it in a few seconds.
34:25If you don't have antiseptic, take out an ordinary straw.
34:28Lean it against the lock and blow warm air through it.
34:32A few minutes of breathing and the lock can be opened.
34:35You're charging your phone in the car, but you're tired of long wires that keep getting tangled.
34:40No need to cut them.
34:42Tick your charging wire and wind it around a pencil.
34:45Now blow hot air on it with a hairdryer.
34:47Just don't overheat the wire.
34:49How about that?
34:50It now looks like a flexible spring, and its length is much shorter.
34:54If you like lemonade or Coke, but don't have a can opener in your car, not a problem.
34:59Just use the tip of your seatbelt.
35:02Pop!
35:02And you can enjoy your favorite drink.
35:05If you live in the sunny states, you've often found that the steering wheel of your car sometimes gets so
35:11hot, you can almost burn your hands.
35:14The easiest solution is to turn the steering wheel in the parking lot so that its bottom is up.
35:19Once back in the car, you can hold the steering wheel by the cooler topside.
35:24Also, if the car gets too hot in the parking lot, just roll down the driver's window.
35:29Get out of the car.
35:30Now open and close the rear passenger door several times.
35:33This will speed up the process of airing the interior, and you won't have to drive in an oven on
35:38wheels.
35:40When you get out of the car, you may sometimes get an electric shock.
35:43This is because of static electricity.
35:46You rub your clothes on the seat, and then you touch the metal door when you try to close it.
35:50At this point, there's an electric shock between your hand and the door.
35:54To avoid this, open the door first by touching the body of the car with your hand.
35:59You can touch the passenger door from the outside.
36:02Then put your foot on the ground and get out of the car.
36:05Yay! You avoided an electric shock!
36:09If you're a novice driver, you may not have a good feel for the actual size of the car.
36:14So you might scratch it by parking it even in your own garage.
36:17Just hang a tennis ball from the ceiling so that it touches the windshield or rear window exactly when you
36:23need to hit the brakes.
36:25Perfect parking and no scratches.
36:28If you share the car with someone, you have to constantly move the driver's seat.
36:32To simplify this process, you can put little strips of colored tape on the panel under the seat and the
36:38driver's door where the seat is in a comfortable position.
36:41Now, when adjusting the seat, you just need to put these strips against each other.
36:45You can use different colors of tape for each driver.
36:49Or the other driver can get their own darn car.
36:51An expensive solution indeed.
36:53Yes, yes it is.
