00:0082 people were arrested at a protest outside the Labour Party conference in Liverpool on Sunday
00:07after demonstrators displayed signs supporting Palestine action.
00:11The group has been prescribed under the Terrorism Act,
00:14meaning expressing support for it can be a criminal offence in certain circumstances.
00:19Approximately 180 protesters gathered outside the conference centre,
00:24with many holding homemade banners.
00:26Going on locking up those people who have done most to try and stop that genocide,
00:31namely political activists with Palestine action, just makes no sense at all.
00:39So we have to see a change of heart.
00:41Police said not everyone at the protest had been committing a criminal offence
00:46and the force said it respected the right to protest lawfully.
00:50The government's position is that Palestine action was prescribed because of what it describes
00:55as serious criminal damage carried out by the group.
00:58The Home Office says the ban is separate from lawful protests in support of Palestinian causes.
01:06Palestine action has challenged its prescription through the courts.
01:10The UK Supreme Court has granted permission for part of the challenge to proceed,
01:15with a hearing listed for November.
01:17The legal challenge does not currently remove the group's prescribed status.
01:22Police therefore say officers are continuing to enforce the law during protests.
