00:07Rightmove's September 2026 figures show homes in the region can take around two months to find a buyer,
00:14while asking prices have been broadly steady.
00:17Across Britain, the number of properties for sale has been high,
00:21giving buyers more choice and putting pressure on sellers to make a strong first impression.
00:26That does not mean spending thousands on major renovation work.
00:31Simple jobs can make a home feel cleaner, brighter and better cared for,
00:35which may help it stand out in photographs and during viewings.
00:40Fresh paint, small repairs, tidier outdoor spaces and fixing obvious signs of wear
00:46can all change how a property is presented.
00:49None of those steps can guarantee a sale and price remains important.
00:54But there are practical ways to make a home more appealing before it reaches the market.
00:59I would always say start small, but the most important thing is that you've got to start.
01:03How many of us have a plan or a project and we just keep putting it off or don't get
01:07round to it?
01:08I started with the Dalmatian wall, with doing a stencil.
01:11But yeah, start with something like painting a wall, putting up a shelf,
01:15perhaps changing out a fitting in your home.
01:17And, you know, things like changing the handles on cabinets, that's a really easy one to do.
01:22And it can be super impactful, totally change the look of a unit.
01:25And we're seeing so many more people now, you know, Facebook Marketplace,
01:29the unit's up for sale, you can get it much cheaper and then paint it and upgrade the handles
01:34and you have a brand new fantastic piece of furniture.
01:36So I would always recommend, yeah, having a drill and a level.
01:39They're probably my two most used tools at the start.
01:42And then a nail gun is one that I think people find quite daunting
01:46because it makes quite a loud noise when you use it.
01:48But it can be a fantastic piece of kit around the home.
01:51Definitely having, you know, a screwdriver set you can turn to.
01:54And another favourite of mine is a mouse sander, you know,
01:56for taking back some wood that's maybe got a stain on it or removing,
02:00you know, a kind of darker wood stain that you're not a fan of.
02:02A mouse sander is definitely a good job for that.
02:05Those simple improvements will not guarantee a sale,
02:08but they can help a property make a stronger first impression
02:12when buyers have plenty of choice.
02:14That matters across the West Midlands,
02:16where prices can vary sharply within a relatively small area.

02:29£215,000 in Walsall,
02:32£234,000 in Birmingham
02:35and £337,000 in Sully Hall.
02:39Litchfield was close behind at £336,000.
02:43The aim is not to transform a home completely,
02:46but to make it feel cared for and easy to imagine living in.
02:50When buyers are comparing several properties,
02:53that first impression can still make a real difference
02:56before they decide which homes are really worth viewing.
02:59the size of the immune system is completely unbiased.
