00:00On the 1st of June, 2024, six-year-old Lucy Morgan from Stockholm, New Jersey,
00:07was on the last full day of a lake vacation at a cottage in Limerick, Maine,
00:12where her family had stopped for a quick lunch by the water.
00:16Her older brother grabbed a badminton racket in the front yard,
00:19and Lucy sat down on the sideline just to watch.
00:22The racket had a wooden handle with an aluminum shaft,
00:26and on a downward swing, that shaft tore loose from the handle
00:29and shot off like a spear.
00:31It pierced her skull.
00:33She was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland,
00:36taken straight into surgery, but doctors found no brain function.
00:40Lucy died on June 5, four days later.
00:43Maine State Police ruled it a freak accident, with no charges filed.
00:48The geyser
00:48Daniel Dick was 18, a recent high school graduate from Silmar, California,
00:54on a family vacation in Hawaii on the 30th of June, 2002.
01:00Visiting the Halona Point blowhole on the eastern coast of Oahu.
01:04The lookout has fences and posted signs warning people away from the opening in the rocks below.
01:10Daniel climbed past the barrier, walked down to the blowhole,
01:13and according to a Honolulu fire captain, ended up straddling the opening itself.
01:19Then, a large swell rammed water and compressed air up the shaft.
01:23The blast launched him headfirst into the air, and as the captain put it,
01:28that was the last anyone saw of him.
01:30He drowned.
01:31Two scuba divers found his body the next morning, about 20 feet offshore.
01:35He was the third person killed at that exact spot since 1969.
01:40The fish
01:41Julia Manfrini was a 36-year-old Italian, a former professional snowboarder turned surf coach
01:47and co-founder of a travel company, and on the 18th of October, 2024, around 9.30 a.m.,
01:53she was surfing a reef break off Masakut Island in Indonesia's Mentawai Islands.
01:59Conditions were normal, a fun left-hand wave that draws traveling surfers.
02:03While she sat on her board, a large, sharp-billed fish reported as a swordfish or needlefish
02:09leapt from the water and drove its bill into her upper left chest.
02:14The wound went about five centimeters deep.
02:16She signaled two nearby surfers for help, and they got her toward shore,
02:21but the resort said she died almost immediately.
02:24Medical staff couldn't resuscitate her.
02:26Indonesian authorities ruled it a freak wildlife accident, with no foul play and no charges.

02:34In August 2015, 17-year-old Dutch student Vera Moll joined a group of teenagers from the
02:40Netherlands and Belgium on an adventure holiday in northern Spain.
02:44One of the big highlights on the itinerary was bungee jumping from the Cedega Viaduct near
02:49Cabezon de la Salle, a highway bridge towering above a dry riverbed.
02:55Vera was one of the last in the group to jump.
02:57She stepped onto the platform, harness on, heart pounding, waiting for the English command
03:02from her Spanish instructor.
03:04According to court documents, he shouted,
03:07No jump, while he was still adjusting her equipment.
03:09But with his very poor English and accent, Vera apparently heard the exact opposite.
03:15Now jump.
03:16She leapt off the bridge before the rope had been secured to the structure.
03:20The cord was attached to her, but not anchored to anything.
03:23In front of her friends, she fell roughly 100, 130 feet and hit the dry riverbed below,
03:30dying on impact.
03:31A Spanish court later ruled that the instructor's confusing English and the company's safety
03:36failures had contributed directly to her death, the window.
03:40Elijah Snow was a 35-year-old Arlington firefighter, husband and father of two, who flew to Cancun
03:47with his wife, Jamie, in July 2021, to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary at the Royalton

03:54After drinks at the lobby bar, Jamie went up to sleep, and Elijah stayed behind.
04:00She woke around 4 a.m. to find he'd never come back.
04:03By 8.30, she learned he was dead, found wedged in a bathroom window of an employee restroom
04:08at a neighboring resort, half in, half out.
04:11Mexican authorities ruled it mechanical asphyxia from chest compression after he tried to climb
04:17through.
04:17His family disputes that, saying photos showed him beaten over most of his body and believe
04:22he was kidnapped and killed.

04:25On the 26th of July, 1978, four young people boarded a cabin on the Skyway, a Von Roll aerial
04:32gondola gliding above six flags over mid-America in Eureka, Missouri.
04:36The gentle, scenic kind of ride, families pick precisely because it feels safe.
04:42A support beam broke.
04:44Their cabin detached from the ride and dropped to the ground.
04:47There's no report anyone rocked it or misbehaved.
04:50The riders were simply inside when it fell.
04:53Three of them were killed 10-year-old Trisha Weeks, 15-year-old Kristen Johnson, and 25-year-old
04:59Clark Johnson, and a fourth girl survived with critical injuries.
05:03Ride incident records later blamed the accident on a design defect.
05:08It remains one of the deadlier and least-known amusement park disasters in the country.
05:13The Crater Edge.
05:14A 25-year-old Swedish tourist set out at around 5 a.m. on the 31st of March, 2010, from
05:21his
05:21hotel near Mount Batur in Bali, joining the pre-dawn sunrise, hike up the active volcano with
05:28a local guide named Komang Eri, one of the most popular bucket list excursions on the island.
05:33He reached the rim and stepped to the very edge to look down into the crater.
05:38Police said he simply slipped.
05:40He fell roughly 150 meters into the crater.
05:44There was no railing failure, no push, just a single lost step on steep, unstable volcanic
05:48ground.
05:49Recovering his body took about eight hours and around 60 rescuers from the National Search
05:55and Rescue Agency and local police, working with ropes in bad weather.
06:00Authorities ruled it an accidental death.
06:02The Spinning Coaster.
06:03In July 2014, an 18-year-old Icelandic tourist was on a summer holiday in Benidorm, Spain,
06:10and decided to visit Terra Mitica, a theme park just a few minutes from the Costa Blanca
06:15hotels.
06:16With his friends, he boarded Inferno, a compact spinning coaster where the cars rotate freely
06:22as they whip through tight turns.
06:25At some point during the ride, his restraint didn't hold.
06:28As the car was moving at speed, about 50 feet above the ground, his safety harness opened,
06:33and he was violently thrown out of the spinning car.
06:36Witnesses saw him fall to the concrete below, suffering multiple broken bones and catastrophic
06:42head injuries.
06:43An ambulance crew rushed him to hospital, but he died on the way.
06:48In the investigation that followed, Spanish media reported that he was over the ride's
06:52recommended weight limit and that the restraint system hadn't been designed or adjusted for
06:57his body type.
06:58The raft was gone.
06:59In June 1973, two brothers, one 18, one just 10, were visiting Disneyland in Anaheim, California,
07:07and made their way out to Tom Sawyer Island in the rivers of America, the raft-only play
07:12island themed to Mark Twain's boyhood adventures.
07:15As the park closed, instead of leaving, they hid and stayed behind.
07:20With the rafts shut down for the night, the 18-year-old decided to swim across the river
07:24to shore, trying to keep his younger brother afloat.
07:28The 10-year-old managed to dog paddle long enough for a cast member to pull him out alive.
07:33His older brother went under and didn't resurface.
07:36His body was recovered from the river.
07:38The death ruled an accidental drowning, the lagoon.
07:41In June 2016, two-year-old Lane Graves from Nebraska was on holiday with his family at Disney's
07:47Grand Floridian Resort in Florida, playing at the sandy edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon after
07:52dark.
07:52While he stood in shallow water near the shore, a wild alligator suddenly lunged out of the
07:58lagoon, grabbed him, and dragged him under before his parents could pull him free.
08:02Despite immediate rescue efforts and an overnight search, Lane's body was recovered the next
08:07day close to where he'd been taken, and Disney later added alligator warning signs and shoreline
08:13barriers around its lakes.
08:16In November 2024, foreign tourists in Vang Vieng, Laos, were drinking at and around the Nana Backpacker
08:24Hostel exactly the kind of backpacker nightlife the town is built on.
08:28One of them was Simone White, a 28-year-old British lawyer from southeast London.
08:33The drinks were contaminated with methanol, traced to illicitly produced alcohol.
08:38Six tourists from Australia, Denmark, the United States, and the United Kingdom died,
08:44with several more hospitalized.
08:46Simone White died on November 21.
08:48Laotian police detained multiple hostile staff, including the manager, and later charged
08:5410 people with evidence tampering, while the owner of the distillery supplying the alcohol
08:58faced a separate trial.
