In 2009, archaeologists working ahead of a new road near Weymouth, Dorset, England, uncovered something completely unexpected.
At Ridgeway Hill, they discovered a mass burial containing the remains of more than 50 men dating to the Viking Age.
Scientific analysis of their teeth provided evidence that many had grown up in Scandinavia or other parts of northern Europe. The archaeological evidence also revealed a darker part of the story: the men had been violently executed.
But major questions remain.
