I traded my V8 Camaro for a Tesla Model 3, and the reasons go way beyond just saving on gas. After owning a 2022 Camaro LT1 with a 6.2L V8, the jump to a 2025 Tesla came down to payment, insurance, daily comfort, and finally admitting the Camaro was burning a hole in the pocket.

He breaks down what he loves and misses about the switch, from the Tesla’s frunk and bigger trunk to the glass roof, folding mirrors, heated and cooled leather seats, and the simple interior with everything controlled on the screen. There’s also real talk about the lack of Apple CarPlay, the learning curve of Tesla’s infotainment, and how the self-driving trial works in everyday driving.

The comparison is honest: the Camaro was louder, more emotional, and still the favorite car ever owned, but the Tesla feels like a better daily driver with premium comfort and strong performance. It’s a car review, ownership update, and practical EV vs muscle car discussion all in one.

Perfect for viewers searching for Tesla Model 3 review, Camaro to Tesla comparison, EV ownership, car review, daily driver impressions, and real-world electric car pros and cons. If you enjoy automotive commentary, sports car trade-in stories, and honest first impressions of electric cars, this one fits right in.

00:00As most of you may know, I sold my 2022 Camaro LT1 for a 2025 Tesla Model 3,
00:06and today I'm going to tell you why, and I'm also going to tell you what I love and hate
00:09about my new car.
00:28I know you're thinking that I've lost all credibility as an automotive enthusiast, and you might be right,
00:32but I have good reason for selling the Camaro and getting this. You have to let me explain.
00:35So my first car was 168 horsepower Mitsubishi Lancer GT. I then upgraded to the 3.6 liter V6 Camaro
00:421 LT,
00:43and then after that, I got what you guys might know, the Camaro LT1 with the 6.2 liter V8,
00:48which I love dearly, but was burning an absolute fire in my pocket. Between the payment, the insurance,
00:55and the 17 miles per gallon that it got, it was time to grow up a little bit. The payment
00:59of my LT1 was
01:00$600 a month, the insurance was $300 a month, and I was spending about $300 a month filling it up
01:06once
01:06a week with 93 octane. I also decided it was a good idea to pay $1,500 over sticker for
01:11my Camaro
01:11and buy it during COVID when the price of gas was like $5 a gallon. I'm a f***ing idiot.
01:17So my ultimate approach with this car was to find something that was cheaper on insurance,
01:20a slightly cheaper payment, and definitely cheaper on gas. What I didn't know is that I was going to be
01:25converting to the dark side and getting rid of gas altogether. Some other cars I was considering
01:29besides a Model 3 would be something like a Honda Accord, a Kia K5, a Hyundai Sonata,
01:35just a practical sedan. Now folks, with that in mind, it makes the Model 3 more justifiable.
01:39It's got almost 400 horsepower. Speaking of things that it does have, which is one of my favorite
01:43parts of the car, a fully functioning frunk. Like I mentioned before, these cars are my daily drivers,
01:48so I needed something that was more practical, and a frunk is as practical as it gets. It is a
01:53bit
01:53shallow. I can't fit in it and close the hood, but it's good for small groceries if you don't want
01:57to
01:57use the trunk. It's got a trunk and frunk. I think the reason I like the fact that it has
02:00a frunk is
02:01because frunks are kind of like a supercar thing. Most regular cars don't have frunks. I'm not calling
02:05this a supercar. I'm just saying I like the idea of a frunk. Before Tesla, you had to buy a
02:10Ferrari
02:10to get a frunk and frunk. Now the Tesla and the Camaro both have trunks, but if you've ever seen
02:15a
02:16six-gen Camaro trunk, you can't put anything in it because the opening is so, so small. I couldn't even
02:20fit my clubs in it. The Tesla trunk, now that's a trunk. That's a big trunk. You could fit two
02:25sets of
02:25golf clubs, and there's room underneath. The car also has some luxury features, which I really like,
02:30such as folding mirrors, a full glass roof, and security cameras on every corner of this car
02:35in case someone wants to draw on it with their fingers, which seems to be a common theme here.
02:39I'm not Elon Musk. Don't write on my Tesla, please. This doesn't come with the car. It was $175,
02:44but the Tesla key is so cool and so worth it, in my opinion, and I'm trying to save money,
02:49but I'm
02:49buying stupid things. It looks like a little Tesla, and the pouch for it is sold separately, and it's
02:55$18. So this whole setup right here is $200. I had a credit. Like I mentioned earlier, this car has
03:01almost 400 horsepower and a 0-60 of 4.2 seconds, so it's definitely quick, and we're going to take
03:07you for a drive. I always thought the ride quality and overall build quality of these cars was a little
03:11bit poor because that's what I heard through the grapevine, and I've seen some pictures of
03:15mismatched door panels and things of that nature, but the second I got into this car, I could not
03:20believe how comfortable it was, how good it drove. It feels like a premium car. I mean, granted,
03:27it's a $51,000 car, so it better feel premium, but it is so comfortable, and I think part of
03:33why I
03:33think it's so comfortable is because I came from a two-door sports car, which was very uncomfortable
03:38for daily driving, but it's a pleasure to drive. It's so much better as a daily driver than the Camaro
03:44was. It's just not as much of a weekend car. So the Camaro obviously had the V8, and I took
03:50the
03:50muffler off of that car, so it was super, super loud. All of my neighbors were pissed, and I think
03:55they're pleasantly surprised that I got this car, and I miss the noise, but I'm also happy that this
04:01car makes no noise. I'm growing up, folks. I hate to say it. I'm turning into an unk. I'm finding
04:05everything in my life that is impractical, and I'm getting rid of it, but this isn't the end-all
04:10be-all. I think Tesla will always be great for a daily driver for me, and it'll always have a
04:16spot in
04:16the driveway, but I'll never fall out of love with internal combustion and sports cars, supercars,
04:22et cetera. There will always be a place in my garage and in my heart for that because this thing
04:26has
04:26too much body roll for me to use it as a weekender. It's quick. Don't get me wrong, but it's
04:31got a lot
04:31of body roll. The infotainment system in this car is incredible, but it takes a long time to learn
04:35because all of the controls are in the screen. There's no stalks on this car. There's a couple of
04:39buttons on your steering wheel, but there's no stalks. Everything's done on the screen, and unfortunately,
04:43this car does not come with Apple CarPlay, which I've grown to love and used every single day in
04:49the Camaro. For the first couple of months of ownership, you're offered the free trial of
04:52self-driving, but after that, you either have to pay $8,000 to buy it outright, or you could
04:57subscribe to it, which is a good idea, for $99 a month. I don't personally do a lot of long
05:03road
05:03trips in this car, so I probably won't be buying self-driving, but in the first couple of months of
05:08me using it, it was incredible. I hit the button, and it took me wherever I needed to go. I
05:12didn't even
05:13have to keep my hands on the wheel, but you do have to look at the road, or else it's
05:16gonna get
05:17mad at you, and it's gonna give you a strike, and if you do it too many times, it'll disable
05:22self-driving
05:22for the trip. Don't ask me how I know that. Also, it doesn't like when you wear hats because it
05:26can't
05:26see your eyes. I also realize that because I like to wear hats a lot. The self-driving system is
05:31kind
05:31of like a kindergarten teacher. You get three strikes, and you're out. One of my overall favorite things
05:36about the interior of this car is it's so, so simple. There's no air vents. There's no drive mode
05:41selector. There's no windshield wiper stock. Everything is either on the steering wheel or
05:45in the infotainment system. The leather seats, which this is the first car that I've had leather
05:49seats in, are incredibly comfortable. They're heated and cooled. The steering wheel's heated.
05:54There's a lot of luxury features in here, and it feels like a proper luxury car. It feels good.
05:58Like, I downgraded in performance, but I definitely upgraded in luxury. I gotta be honest, folks. Aside
06:05from the power, because the Camaro had cloth seats. They weren't heated. It had no creature
06:10comforts. This has everything, so it feels like a little bit of an upgrade in that regard,
06:14and it's not slow. Zero to 60, this car is just as fast as the Camaro. Speaking of speed and
06:19zero to
06:1960s, let's give it a little test. This car doesn't have a proper launch control setting because it's
06:23not a performance, but it launches quick. It's all-wheel drive, 400 horse, and there's no lag.
06:29It's all torque. I don't even know why I'm talking. Let me just launch the car.
06:37When you're talking electric cars, you have to talk charging, and it's super,
06:41super important, in my opinion, to have an at-home setup, or in my case, have a bunch of
06:45charging stations around my apartment complex in case I want to charge it overnight and wake
06:49up to a full battery. But there are plenty of Tesla superchargers all around the country.
06:55There's one right next to my job, so I drive over there. I plug it in for about a half
06:59hour to 45
07:00minutes, and I'm fully charged. Now, if you can't find a Tesla supercharger, it might be slightly
07:04inconvenient because this charge point location right here is saying that it's going to take
07:07seven hours and 55 minutes to get me 50% battery, which is fine if you're plugging in and going
07:13to
07:13sleep. It's not fine if you're on a road trip. Can you imagine being on a road trip, and you
07:17can't
07:17wait to get home or to your destination, and it's like, nope, got to wait seven and a half hours.
07:22At the end of the day, the Camaro is, and still will be, my favorite car I've ever owned,
07:25and it was very sad to see it go, but I think overall I made the right decision. But you
07:29guys
07:29can let us know what you think in the comments below. Future Chris, if you're watching this,
07:32the next car review is going to be my Lamborghini Huracan in a Christian car spec, and that will
07:37be the coolest car I've ever owned. I got employed. I don't have a job. I'm wearing a Rolex and
07:43a gold
07:43bud. Jade, what's wrong with me? Financially illiterate forever.
