00:07Today we're at the top of the COPE enclosure at the San Diego Zoo because we have a new arrival,
00:14a little boy serval born October 7th, so he's about five weeks old and he's in the enclosure
00:19with his mom right now. We suspect that he'll learn everything that he can from mom for the
00:29next 30-60 days or so, so he's learning how to eat solid foods right now even though it's very
00:35important that he get everything from On Chef right now.
00:48Well the activity that we did this morning in getting a body weight on the kitten is important
00:52for us to not only collect information for the future but also to gain an idea of how the kitten
00:58is growing and his status as he gets bigger so we can monitor his health with a body weight and
01:04observations. He's almost three pounds and I think that that is probably right on par with a kitten,
01:11serval kitten growth, so at this point his growth curve is normal and will continue to take weights
01:16as long as he'll let us to make sure that continues.
01:25If you were going to come to San Diego Zoo and see our new serval kitten they are most active
01:30in the early
01:31morning hours and also in the late evening hours which is kind of species specific for cats so if
01:37you were to come directly after opening or perhaps if you were on grounds on your way out of the
01:41zoo you
01:42might want to stop by.
