Bentley Motors has unveiled the all-new Torcal, the marque’s first fully electric model, at a global debut in London today. Designed and handcrafted in Britain, the Torcal brings together Bentley’s distinctive heritage and uncompromising craftsmanship with advanced electric technology, marking a new chapter for the brand from its home in Crewe.  The Torcal is the centrepiece of a £350 million investment in Bentley’s Crewe site, sustaining 4,000 jobs and marking the company’s biggest step yet towards an all-electric future. The investment has delivered an entirely new production line within the oldest building on the site, dating back to 1938, alongside continued investment in the skills of Bentley’s workforce as it takes on the challenge of manufacturing an electric car for the first time. Fully designed, developed and built in Crewe by the same 4,000-strong team, the Torcal is produced alongside Bentley’s combustion and hybrid models, supported by a network of suppliers from across the UK.  On the road, the Torcal delivers up to 888PS and 1,350Nm of torque – the highest of any Bentley to date – with acceleration of 0-60mph in as little as 2.8 seconds, up to 375 miles (600km WLTP) of range and 10-80% charging in under 20 minutes. The Torcal launches in two forms: the core model and the more sporting Torcal S. It also introduces new sustainable materials to the Bentley palette, including the world’s first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, developed with Somerset weaver Fox Brothers.

00:06Torcal is our first really new car for a long time now and it comes with new technology,

00:12new design language. It's really a blueprint on what we expect on future Bentley cars. It's

00:18maybe the most important car launch in our 107 year history. It's a complete new car and it's

00:24electric. It's a very significant milestone for us because it expands our range so we can often

00:29now ice cars, hybrids but also fully electric cars. So Bentley has a fantastic heritage and we want to

00:36capture some of that DNA and heritage but of course make modern progressive design. Bringing

00:42four or five different elements in but of course focusing on beautiful surfacing, clean design and

00:48a modern expression. But at the end of the day it has to be a Bentley. The use of the

00:52most advanced

00:52technology in our chassis system for Torcal gave us a great opportunity to really stretch the

00:58bandwidth and the performance of the car. We've been able to deliver a vehicle that's as comfortable

01:02as a flying spur in steady state conditions and as dynamic as a GT in dynamic conditions. So the

01:07opportunity to use the great technology that underpins this car really allows us to deliver a broad

01:12spectrum of performance in the car. We think the timing is now just perfect. EV technology has matured and

01:19it now fulfills Bentley standards. But it's also a huge effort of upskilling, bringing in new technology

01:25and not looking backwards. We clearly have a plan for the future and we are very proud that we can

01:30build

01:30these cars with our skilled workforce in crew in the UK.
