00:37And also to do something for that long and still love it.

00:45And I think, especially within the last couple of projects that I've done, have been with
00:50the younger generation, heavily cast around a lot of younger generations.
00:54I think that's what's keeping me kind of going.
00:56I really enjoy working with them.

00:58I mean, how do you nurture your love for acting?
01:01Because I feel like a lot, because you started so young, like people like really, like they
01:04burn out.
01:05I think anybody, like, you know, like people who, you know, have, have burned out, you
01:10know, in sports and things like that.
01:11Right.
01:11I think it's very common.
01:12Right.
01:13But I have always continued to find the joy in working with different people and traveling
01:20and playing different characters.
01:22And I don't know.
01:23It's just, I do.
01:24I'm lucky that I do find the joy in it.
01:25I love that.
01:26And now we are seeing you in Covent Academy, which premieres October 1st on Freeform and
01:30streams the next day on Hulu and Disney Plus.
01:32And I love too that you said it's, you're working with like the younger generation.
01:36The younger generation.
01:36Do they all ask you for advice and everything?
01:38Yeah, they do.
01:38It's funny.
01:39I think it goes both ways.
01:40Like I'm, I'm kind of learning a lot from the younger generation.
01:44A lot of it's more advice on my teenage daughter and what to look out for and be warned for.
01:51And yeah, they, they definitely ask a lot, especially some of the cast that's, this is
01:56their first big break, their first big TV show.
01:59Wow.
01:59Um, and they're very receptive and super, they're just, I love the enthusiasm, um, and
02:05seeing the energy, especially when we're shooting at four o'clock in the morning.
02:09It helps me.
02:11Do the young kids, do they have any idea how iconic you are?
02:15Do they know about Saved by the Bell and about Kelly Kapowski?
02:17Like, do they have questions?
02:19I mean, they know as much as my kids do, but do they really know?
02:23Like it wasn't like they, my daughter tried watching and she did.
02:27She actually got through the whole entire seasons of Saved by the Bell and she, it was
02:32more of a chuckle and laugh.
02:33She goes, but mom, this show would never, never work right now.
02:37And I'm like, you're right.
02:37It wouldn't.
02:38Did she, did she like it?
02:40I mean, did she enjoy it?
02:40She liked it because it was funny to see me like that and my wardrobe and my, you
02:46like, it was that kind of thing.
02:48She was more curious.

02:50I think if I wasn't in it, she would never watch a show like that.
02:53And she tried watching 90210 and she was like really slow.
02:57She's like, is anything going to happen?
02:59It's so crazy because it felt like so much.
03:01And I go, girl, I'm in season five and you can't even get through the pilot.

03:07She never got past the first episode.
03:09She's like, I don't think this is for me.
03:11Also, she has to get ready because I know you said she was making fun of the fashions.

03:46And what I also do always, because people say Gen Z is so good at, and like the younger
03:50generation is great at advocating for themselves at work and everything.
03:53And they can be like, no, I want my break now and I'm getting my break.

03:56How, is it refreshing probably or crazy for you to see?
03:59It's like, oh, child stars can actually say, like, you know what I mean?
04:02Because back then I feel everyone always says like.
04:03Oh no, we, we, we shut our mouths.
04:05We were not allowed to talk back at all.
04:08And it's very different, like extremely, extremely different.
04:13And I think, you know, especially I think being a woman too, like I, I appreciate seeing these
04:20girls kind of stand up for themselves when needed and then, and feeling like they can.
04:24Right.
04:25I never felt like I could do that.
04:26Not that I ever had really horrible situations, but, and when it did, I did speak up, but, but
04:32they're, they, they have a little confidence in, in knowing that they can.
04:36And that's, and that they're being supported on the other side.
04:38Right.
04:38And that it's also, they still want to give their all to their work, but also they're
04:42like, I'm a human.
04:43Cause I feel so many times, even with like actors and musicians and everything, it's
04:47like, you kind of just get stuck on the machine or you're like, okay, I'm doing this, this,
04:51this, this, but you're like, oh, where do I breathe?
04:54Oh yeah.
04:54I mean, it's hard.
04:55It's, we, we worked very long hours on the show.
04:57We had a lot of night shooting, a lot of nights all.
05:00Yeah.
05:00It's.
05:00And for this old lady, it was definitely.

05:04How does, how has your approach to your work evolved over, over the years?
05:08Like, do you, do you take more time off in between projects?
05:12Is self care?
05:13Like, do you prioritize self care?
05:14I wish I could say that.
05:15No, you just need to, I mean, nowadays you just got to take the work and hopefully it's
05:19ones that you love.
05:20Like, let's be real.
05:22Like, I mean, Hollywood's changed.
05:23There's not as many jobs.
05:25There's not as many roles.
05:26I have so many people in Los Angeles struggling.
05:29So I feel extremely fortunate to have one, a job that I like.
05:33Right.
05:33And that it's going to hopefully be really something kind of fun that kids are really
05:37going to enjoy as well.
05:38And my kids are, you know, one of those, one of those audiences that is going to watch
05:41it.
05:42So, um, and I, I think for me it's, uh, I mean, lots of, lots has changed.
05:48Let's say, I mean, uh, the long hours are a little harder for me.
05:51So I have to really make sure I keep up with like my water intake and my rest and all
05:55those
05:55types of things where when I was 17, I could rock it with two hours of sleep and be like,
06:00yeah, I'm good.
06:01I can't do that anymore.
06:03You know?
06:04So yeah, there are lots, lots has changed, you know, memorizing my lines is like another
06:08one.
06:08Like I could, I could roll in that day and learn them in makeup and hair.
06:12I can't do that anymore.
06:13So tell us about Covenant Academy and your, you, you play the headmistress of this school
06:18for witches and warlocks.
06:20It is.
06:20So it is, uh, sets place, you know, the, the places that basically New Orleans and it's
06:26about a school of witches and warlocks.
06:28I play the head of school.
06:30Um, and it's about a girl who has sort of a troubled past from Brooklyn who gets sent to
06:38the school thinking it's like a school for like not so great kids.
06:41And she ends up finding out that she's been a witch the entire time.
06:46So like her bad sort of behavior really wasn't, you know, something that was really her.
06:52It was like these powers that she had that she didn't know she had.
06:54And it's really like the whole basis of the show is really about sisterhood and about found
07:00family.
07:00You know, sometimes when you don't feel like you belong in a place that finding that sort
07:04of place that you do belong, um, is usually not always by bloodline.
07:09Um, so it's, it's a really special show and I think, you know, we're right in the fall
07:13season and it's like, you know, the spirituality of it all.
07:16And I think we all are a little, little witch.
07:19We have a little witch inside of us.
07:20Are you a big like fall fan, like spooky season girl?
07:24Halloween is one of my favorites for sure.
