More than 217,000 LUMA customers lost electricity across Puerto Rico after a disturbance affected the transmission and generation systems on September 23. A fire was reported at the Sabana Llana transmission center between San Juan and Carolina.
LUMA said the system was stabilized and restoration efforts were underway. The exact equipment failure and cause of the incident remain under investigation.
