00:00The shores of Lake Superior in Michigan are home to glowing uberlite rocks,
00:05a natural phenomenon of cyanide rocks rich with fluorescent soda light minerals.
00:11These rocks glow under ultraviolet light, providing beautiful patterns inside and out.
00:16When they first found the rocks, they couldn't identify them as any existing type of rock.
00:22Although they've been mainly obtained from Lake Superior,
00:25their origin story takes them back millions of years.
00:28They formed from thick continental crustal areas of Canada.
00:32They then slowly followed the continental ice sheets, along with the glaciers, some thousands of years ago.
00:38Natural phenomena occur in many forms,
00:41and the only thing humankind has to do is admire their intrigue and beauty.
00:46Seeking the end of a rainbow has long been an opportunity to find a pot of hidden gold.
00:52This is an old tale that originates back to the time when Vikings buried their gold in Ireland.
00:57Philosophers and scholars had an understanding of how rainbows rationally formed even before then.
01:04Rainbows are an optical illusion, the result of refraction and reflection.
01:08This combo happens thanks to the spreading of white light through the water droplets at multiple angles,
01:14dispersing the white light into a continuous distribution of colors.
01:18Every rainbow you ever witness is a double one,
01:21though the second band isn't always visible,
01:24as more white light escapes being spread further apart.
01:27The light escapes upwards, as opposed to the primary bow, which is downwards.
01:32Some cultures believe the northern lights were created by a great firefox running across the skies.
01:39Others, that it was created by the plumes of great whales.
01:42Many northern cultures were sure it's a sign positive news was on the way.
01:48How it occurs is still intriguing, just in a more scientific way rather than mythical.
01:53Great solar storms caused by the sun 93 million miles away
01:57send waves of charged solar particles into space in all directions.
02:02When the Earth crosses paths with one of these waves,
02:05the magnetic field and the atmosphere respond.
02:08As the charged particles from the sun strike atoms within Earth's atmosphere,
02:13electrons move to a higher energy state.
02:15Then, as they drop back to a lower energy form,
02:18they release light photons, creating the auroras on the north and south poles.
02:24Volcanoes are an exciting display of Mother Nature.
02:27They're formed when hot molten rock, ash, and gases escape from an opening on the Earth's surface.
02:34The molten rock and ash solidify as they cool,
02:37creating the volcano spout as it erupts further, pushing more ash into the sky.
02:42The naturally occurring phenomena from a volcano with the combination of lightning
02:47is a different spectacle altogether.
02:50When a volcano emits dense ash clouds close to the ground,
02:53it causes particles to rub together, creating static electricity,
02:57which results in lightning strikes above the volcano.
03:02As the ash clouds rise higher towards the stratosphere,
03:05jostling ice particles can create great bolts of lightning.
03:09This combination is similar to how a thundercloud produces lightning.
03:14Thunderstorms normally form in the late afternoon,
03:16when the sun has heated the Earth and atmosphere enough for the right environment.
03:20Warm, moist air rises into the cold air,
03:23causing condensation,
03:24and sending cooled airdrops of water into the atmosphere,
03:28where it warms and rises again.
03:30A supercell thunderstorm is likely to further transform into a tornado.
03:35It happens as the warm air rises through the colder air,
03:39causing an updraft,
03:40and rotates with fast winds blowing in different directions.
03:44As more warm air is drawn and the rotation increases,
03:48cool air in the jet stream with strong winds in the atmosphere
03:52provides further energy to feed on.
03:54The moist air forms a funnel cloud that grows,
03:57descending to the ground and spawning a tornado.
04:01The USA has the most tornadoes in the world,
04:04around 1,200 per year.
04:05They're also some of the most destructive,
04:07and far greater in size than anywhere else.
04:10They're especially bad in the so-called Tornado Alley,
04:14with mid-level dry air coming from the Rockies,
04:16along with cold air approaching from the northern half of the continent.
04:20The fallen civilization of Atlantis has been a popular myth,
04:25romanced by science fiction and other beliefs.
04:27Many locations have been theorized for its true location.
04:31One of its many supposed whereabouts has been the blue eye of the Sahara,
04:36or the Reshot structure.
04:38Although it's an interesting notion,
04:40this geological formation had built up over the course of millions of years.
04:44Volcanic activity initially lifted the entire landscape from around the eye,
04:49and, over time, eroded and collapsed upon itself.
04:53Eventually, it formed onion-like layers of rock,
04:56and the great eye that can be seen while flying above.
05:00Apart from being a marvelous sight,
05:02there isn't anything solid to claim Atlanteans actually resided there.
05:07There are several locations around the world with pink lakes.
05:11This unique color is a product of the right amount of sunlight and heat
05:15in a body of water with large salt content.
05:18Only specific microbes can withstand such extreme conditions.
05:22They produce and collect carotenoids.
05:24The carotenoids are a class of plant chemicals found in cells of vegetation
05:28to help absorb sunlight.
05:30As the microbes help create the pink algae,
05:33brine shrimp feeding on the algae also turn pink,
05:37as do flamingos' feathers as they feed on the shrimp and algae.
05:41For decades, the mystery of sailing stones in the desert has had people stumped.
05:47Some rocks as heavy as a human would somehow move across the sand,
05:51leaving a long trail behind them.
05:53Yet, when observed, the rocks were completely motionless.
05:57It wasn't until advanced technology used to monitor their movements
06:00found that this wasn't some elaborate prank,
06:03and the stones didn't have a mind of their own.
06:06They found during winter that melting ice panels would allow the stones to move in all directions
06:12with the assistance of light winds.
06:14The rocks can travel up to 16 feet per minute.
06:17The Christmas Island crab is part of an amazing phenomenon once a year.
06:22Their migration period is determined by the phase of the moon
06:25and the first rainfall between October and February,
06:29although the precise date can't be predicted.
06:32Once the crabs have been prompted,
06:33they leave their homes amongst the forest and migrate in massive hordes towards the sea.
06:39Numbering in millions, a sea of red crabs is observed
06:43as they make their journey across the island,
06:45creating roadblocks and making their way to the ocean.
06:48There, they lay their eggs and then make their trek back,
06:52returning to the forest until the next year.
06:55Crop circles are a popular hoax on land,
06:58but underwater, they occur naturally without the intent to try and trick people.
07:03Male pufferfish spend seven to nine continuous days laboriously making intricate patterns in fine sands,
07:10hoping for a female to approach and inspect their artwork.
07:14Unfortunately, the complicated patterns aren't maintained once the purpose is fulfilled.
07:20They soon fade away after being made,
07:22making their discoveries by humans rare.
07:24One could imagine the first diver's reaction as they came across these weird patterns.
07:31Deserts aren't the most likely of places for flowers to grow,
07:34but they share a similar rose that grows in each of them all around the world.
07:39The desert rose doesn't grow biologically,
07:42but is formed from crystal clusters made from gypsum or barite.
07:46These crystals form a circular series of flat plates
07:50that give the rock a similar shape to a rose petal.
07:53The texture and sizes can vary depending on which desert they're from
07:56and the type of sands that are in the surrounding environment.
08:01Bioluminescence, which is the production and emission of light by a living organism,
08:05is a phenomenon that many species on Earth share.
08:09Algae create an ethereal glow in the ocean during the night.
08:12These tiny marine organisms glow with the smooth movements of the waves,
08:18commonly noticed on the shores of beaches.
08:20The light is activated from movement.
08:23In massive groups, they appear like stars, twinkling in their millions.
08:28Animals that have the ability of illumination
08:30use it in different ways within their unique environments.
08:34Jellyfish floating ominously in the depths
08:36emit a glow as a warning towards would-be predators.
08:40Tiny bacteria, only visible under a microscope,
08:44use their light as a form of communication.
08:47Deep-sea fish, like the anglerfish,
08:49use a light at the end of their head
08:51as bait to mimic smaller fish and lure them towards them.
08:55Fireflies glow at night to attract potential mates,
08:58and click beetles emit an orange light upon being disturbed,
09:02using it as a defense mechanism.
09:07Whoa!
09:08A wall of fire spreads around the epicenter of the impact.
09:11It burns everything in its path.
09:13The waves raised by the explosion cover large cities,
09:16and earthquakes are so strong
09:19that giant skyscrapers fall like a house of cards.
09:22So, these are the possible consequences
09:24of the collision with the first interstellar object in history
09:27to visit our solar system.
09:29We discovered it in 2017,
09:31but we're still not sure what it is.
09:34An asteroid, a comet,
09:35or a spaceship of some outer space civilization.
09:38So far, scientists have named it Oumuamua.
09:42Sounds like a Hawaiian cow.
09:44Mmm.
09:45Well, whatever it is,
09:47its speed is much faster than other asteroids.
09:49About 54 miles per second.
09:52At that speed,
09:53you could cross the U.S. from coast to coast
09:55in less than 3 minutes.
09:56So, this asteroid could travel from Earth to the Sun
10:00in about 2 months.
10:01By comparison,
10:03our rockets can travel up to 17,000 miles per hour.
10:06The same trip across the United States
10:08would take them about 9 minutes.
10:11So, many scientists speculate
10:13that this is an artificial object
10:16created by a very advanced civilization.
10:18Okay.
10:19The shape of the object supports this theory.
10:22It's long and narrow
10:23and resembles a spaceship.
10:25It's about half a mile long,
10:27way bigger than the Eiffel Tower.
10:29Scientists decided to see
10:31if Oumuamua was really someone's spaceship
10:33and pointed some radio telescopes at it.
10:36If the civilization on that ship
10:38had used communication
10:39or scanned us with their tech,
10:42we would have known about it.
10:43But there was complete silence.
10:46Kind of like that.
10:47Not a single radio wave.
10:49But that doesn't disprove
10:51the theory of outer space civilization.
10:54To find out for sure,
10:56we decided to determine
10:57the weight of the object.
10:59To do that,
11:00we use light.
11:01More precisely,
11:02its reflection.
11:03You see,
11:04different materials
11:04reflect light differently.
11:06We take an unknown black stone,
11:08for example.
11:09It absorbs almost all the light,
11:11reflecting almost nothing.
11:13Check out the catalog.
11:14It's charcoal.
11:15Knowing the size and material of the object,
11:18we can determine its weight.
11:19So, we need to see
11:21how much light this object reflects.
11:23And when scientists
11:24pointed their telescopes
11:25at Oumuamua,
11:27they learned that
11:28it reflects colors
11:29that match with iron
11:30and also with some solid rocks.
11:32And Oumuamua
11:34was flashing all the time.
11:35A bright flash.
11:37Then,
11:37it would slowly fade.
11:39And then,
11:39it would start to shine again.
11:41This means,
11:42it was spinning.
11:43And it wasn't going around
11:44its axis like an arrow.
11:46It rotated chaotically,
11:48moving its edges up and down.
11:50Any artificial object
11:52or spacecraft
11:52would have been torn apart
11:54by such overloads.
11:55But Oumuamua
11:56is still intact.
11:58That means,
11:58it's made of super hard materials
12:00that keep it from falling apart.
12:02And,
12:03it's not hollow like a spaceship.
12:04It's one solid body.
12:06Hey,
12:07like me.
12:08The astounding speed
12:10of this object
12:11makes it pretty mysterious.
12:13Some comets
12:13can have the same
12:14or even higher speed.
12:16But they also
12:17have a kind of rocket effect.
12:18So,
12:19when a spaceship
12:20starts from the launch pad,
12:21you see fire
12:22bursting out of its engines.
12:24Every second,
12:25the rocket
12:25mixes fuel with oxygen,
12:27ignites them,
12:28and ejects them
12:29at a tremendous speed.
12:30According to the laws of physics,
12:32this is like
12:32pushing off a wall.
12:34The rocket
12:34sort of jumps up
12:35from the combustion gas
12:37as it throws down.
12:38That's how the rocket
12:39creates thrust
12:40and accelerates.
12:41Comets work
12:42on a similar principle.
12:43The sun's rays
12:44hit the surface
12:45of the comet.
12:46Light elements
12:47like ice
12:48start to evaporate.
12:49That gas goes one way,
12:51the comet goes the other.
12:52Just like a rocket,
12:53the comet
12:54is pushing off
12:55the evaporating gas
12:56and accelerates.
12:57This gas
12:58also forms
12:59the comet's
12:59long tail.
13:00It's as if
13:01the massive rock
13:02is dragging
13:03all this gas
13:04behind it.
13:04I can relate.
13:05Or,
13:06it's like a car
13:07pulls air with it
13:08when it goes
13:09at high speed.
13:11But Oumuamua
13:12is not a comet.
13:13And it doesn't
13:14have that tail.
13:15And it doesn't
13:16have the same
13:16rocket effect
13:17as a comet.
13:18So,
13:18it couldn't have
13:19accelerated
13:20to that speed.
13:21But some scientists
13:23believe that
13:23Oumuamua
13:24used to have a tail.
13:25Although we
13:26discovered it
13:27in 2017,
13:28it entered
13:29our solar system
13:30in 1995.
13:31And it was hit
13:32by the sun's rays
13:33even back then.
13:34When we discovered
13:35this asteroid,
13:36it had already
13:37lost about
13:3895% of its mass.
13:40It simply
13:41evaporated.
13:42Other scientists
13:43believe that
13:44Oumuamua
13:44got this velocity
13:45during its birth
13:46somewhere far away
13:48in another star
13:49system or nebula.
13:50Perhaps,
13:51it was a dramatic
13:52collision of some
13:53exoplanet
13:54with another
13:55cosmic object.
13:56The colossal
13:57explosive energy
13:58of the collision
13:59threw the
13:59elongated shard
14:01into outer space.
14:02Or,
14:02it could have
14:03been a supernova
14:04explosion.
14:05When a star
14:06reaches the end
14:06of its lifespan,
14:07it becomes
14:08a red giant.
14:09It's an inflated
14:10version of the star,
14:11hundreds of times
14:12bigger.
14:13Then,
14:13it shrinks
14:14and explodes
14:15with tremendous
14:16force.
14:17The blast waves
14:18can travel many
14:19light years away
14:19from the epicenter.
14:20And it's one of
14:21the brightest
14:22events in the universe.
14:24So,
14:25the supernova
14:26might have torn
14:27some exoplanet
14:28to pieces.
14:29One of them,
14:30Oumuamua,
14:30gained a lot of
14:31energy and speed
14:32and began its
14:33long journey
14:34toward Earth.
14:34This might
14:36explain why
14:36Oumuamua
14:37keeps spinning
14:38so wildly.
14:39But,
14:40recently,
14:41scientists
14:41published a
14:42theory that
14:42Oumuamua
14:43may be a
14:44giant block
14:45of ice.
14:45The kind
14:46of ice
14:46we're used
14:47to is
14:47water,
14:48H2O.
14:49But,
14:49Oumuamua
14:50could be
14:50nitrogen ice,
14:52N2.
14:53It may have
14:53remained intact
14:54in interstellar
14:55space for
14:56500 million years.
14:58And,
14:58when it arrived
14:59in our solar
15:00system,
15:00nitrogen ice
15:01could have
15:02reflected
15:02two-thirds
15:03of the sun's
15:04rays.
15:04So,
15:05it didn't
15:05heat up
15:05as much.
15:06That explains
15:07why Oumuamua
15:08doesn't have
15:09a tail.
15:10You can find
15:11the same
15:11nitrogen ice
15:12on Pluto,
15:13as well as
15:14on Triton,
15:15one of Neptune's
15:15moons.
15:16So,
15:17Oumuamua
15:17comes from
15:18a similar
15:18icy exoplanet.
15:20But,
15:21we can find
15:21out for sure
15:22only by sending
15:23a space probe
15:24to it.
15:25Scientists
15:26came up
15:26with a plan
15:26for that
15:27called
15:27Project Lyra.
15:29The problem
15:29is that
15:30Oumuamua
15:31is leaving
15:31our solar
15:32system
15:32at tremendous
15:33speeds,
15:34much faster
15:34than our
15:35rockets can
15:35fly.
15:36And,
15:36we need
15:37to catch
15:37up with
15:37this
15:38space rock
15:38as quickly
15:39as possible
15:39before it
15:40gets too
15:41far away.
15:42To do
15:43this,
15:43we can
15:44use a
15:44gravity
15:45maneuver.
15:46First,
15:46the space
15:46probe makes
15:47a flyby
15:48of Jupiter.
15:48It passes
15:49close to it
15:50to take
15:50advantage
15:51of its
15:51gravity
15:52to accelerate.
15:53After
15:53that,
15:54the probe
15:54will head
15:55towards the
15:55sun,
15:56and it'll
15:56fly around
15:57it as
15:57close as
15:58possible
15:58to fire
15:59like a
16:00catapult
16:00towards the
16:01space rock.
16:02The second
16:02option for
16:03reaching the
16:03asteroid is
16:04to use
16:05micro-probes.
16:06We have to
16:07launch about
16:07a thousand
16:08of them
16:08into orbit.
16:09They should
16:09be no heavier
16:10than a
16:11match.
16:11Each of
16:12them will
16:12have a
16:12light sail
16:13the size
16:14of a
16:14boxing ring.
16:15Then,
16:16we'll focus
16:16a powerful
16:17laser beam
16:17from the
16:18ground onto
16:19the sail.
16:19It will
16:20allow us to
16:20accelerate the
16:21probe to
16:22about 20%
16:23of the speed
16:24of light.
16:24It shouldn't
16:25go too fast
16:26not to
16:26fly past
16:27the asteroid.
16:28It should
16:28be able to
16:29enter its
16:29orbit or
16:30land on
16:31it.
16:31But if
16:32we're too
16:32slow,
16:33Oumuamua will
16:34leave our
16:34solar system
16:35before we
16:36can catch
16:36up with
16:37it.
16:37It'll be a
16:38great experience
16:39because in
16:39the future,
16:40we'll be able
16:41to use such
16:41asteroids as
16:42a space
16:43taxi.
16:44All we have
16:44to do is
16:45enter the
16:45orbit of
16:46such an
16:46interstellar
16:47asteroid or
16:48even land
16:49on it.
16:49Then,
16:50we would
16:50keep moving
16:51through space
16:51at incredible
16:52speeds without
16:53using any
16:54fuel at
16:54all.
16:55This would
16:55be a great
16:56option for
16:57traveling long
16:57distances or
16:58to deliver
16:59supplies to
17:00other star
17:01systems.
17:01So,
17:02why should
17:03we be afraid
17:04of such
17:04objects?
17:05Well,
17:05a collision
17:06with an
17:06asteroid the
17:07size of
17:07Oumuamua
17:08could wipe
17:09out an
17:09entire state.
17:10If it were
17:11to hit
17:11somewhere in
17:12the ocean,
17:13it could
17:13cause waves
17:14taller than
17:14our skyscrapers.
17:16Scientists are
17:17anxious to
17:17find ways to
17:18protect us
17:19against such
17:19objects.
17:20One of
17:20them is
17:21ramming.
17:22If we
17:22spot a
17:23potentially
17:23hazardous
17:24object,
17:25we could
17:25send a
17:25spaceship
17:26towards it,
17:27pedal to
17:27the metal.
17:28The
17:28spacecraft
17:28will have
17:29to ram
17:29the asteroid
17:30at an
17:31angle that
17:31will move
17:32its trajectory
17:32just a
17:33little bit.
17:34Moving it
17:34too much
17:35on a
17:35cosmic scale
17:36would only
17:36dramatically
17:37change the
17:38asteroid's
17:38final destination.
17:39And we
17:40only need
17:41to get the
17:41asteroid past
17:42our planet.
17:43We can
17:44also create
17:45a controlled
17:45explosion on
17:46the asteroid.
17:47It's based
17:48on the same
17:48principle.
17:49The force
17:49of the explosion
17:50would have
17:51to shift
17:51the trajectory
17:52of the asteroid
17:52slightly or
17:54smash a giant
17:55rock into
17:55smaller pieces.
17:57Asteroids up
17:58to 80 feet
17:58wide would
17:59burn up
17:59completely in
18:00our atmosphere
18:01due to
18:01friction against
18:02the air.
18:03Rocks between
18:0480 feet and
18:04half a mile in
18:05size may not
18:06burn up
18:07completely and
18:08cause local
18:08damage.
18:09Anything larger
18:10is considered
18:11very hazardous.
18:12You think?
18:13The traditional
18:14method of
18:15science fiction
18:16is to put
18:16rocket engines
18:17on the asteroid.
18:18Then we can
18:19not only change
18:20the trajectory
18:20of the
18:21space rock
18:21but also
18:22control it.
18:23And we can
18:24use it against
18:25other asteroids.
18:26It would be
18:26something like
18:27space billions.
18:30Now, you've
18:32heard of the
18:32strange Bigfoot
18:33and the
18:33Loch Ness
18:34monster, right?
18:35But wait!
18:36There's a new
18:36mystery to be
18:37solved.
18:38In the heart
18:39of Seattle's
18:39Capitol Hill
18:40neighborhood sits
18:41the world's
18:42most mysterious
18:42vending machine.
18:44It looks like
18:45it comes
18:45straight out
18:45of the 80s
18:46and the weirdest
18:47part?
18:47Nobody knows
18:48how it got
18:49there.
18:50Despite having
18:50no clear
18:51owner, the
18:52Supernatural
18:53machine is
18:53fully functional
18:54and will shoot
18:55out a refreshing
18:56soda for just
18:5775 cents.
18:58But you won't
18:59be getting your
19:00usual yummy
19:00selection.
19:01The cans that
19:02pop out of it
19:03are all drinks
19:04that haven't been
19:04seen in the
19:05US since the
19:0680s.
19:07If you're
19:07feeling extra
19:08brave, there's
19:09a button marked
19:10mystery, which
19:11will dispense a
19:11completely random
19:12can of soda.
19:14One guy spent
19:14five bucks on the
19:16mystery button and
19:16the spooky machine
19:17popped out six
19:18entirely different
19:19brands of soda,
19:20none of which
19:21had their own
19:22button.
19:22There are rumors
19:23of hubba-bubba soda
19:24and even bacon-flavored
19:26cola coming out
19:27of the vendor.
19:28Even weirder,
19:29one day, the
19:30regular buttons from
19:30the machine all
19:31vanished and were
19:32replaced with the
19:33uniform mystery
19:34buttons.
19:35Whenever the
19:36machine breaks,
19:37it's always fixed
19:38almost immediately,
19:39but no one ever
19:40sees this happening.
19:41So where do the
19:42sodas come from?
19:43Who stocks them?
19:44And the most
19:45important part,
19:46who's getting all
19:47the money?
19:48It looks like we'll
19:49never find out,
19:50as back in June
19:512018, the vending
19:52machine vanished
19:53into thin air.
19:55All that's left in
19:56its spot is a note
19:57that reads,
19:58went for a walk.
19:59No one has seen it
20:01since the day it
20:02disappeared.
20:02Some people think
20:04the machine belonged
20:04to the owners of
20:05Broadway Locksmith,
20:07the store behind
20:08which the vendor
20:08was located.
20:09This would make
20:10sense.
20:10It was linked up to
20:12the store's power
20:12supply and was
20:13locked with a lock
20:14sold in the store.
20:15But the locksmiths
20:17have always denied
20:17this and said that,
20:19like everyone else,
20:20they've never seen
20:20anyone open the
20:21machine.
20:22They might be
20:23telling the truth,
20:24as Seattle vending
20:25machine permit
20:26officials revealed
20:27that there are no
20:28official records of
20:29the vending machine
20:29ever existing or
20:31being linked to the
20:31store.
20:32Well, it's hard to
20:33keep tabs on a
20:34vanishing vending
20:35machine.
20:36The legend of the
20:38ghost ship of
20:38Northumberland
20:39Strait has puzzled
20:40experts for over
20:41200 years.
20:43There have been
20:43numerous sightings
20:44of a mystery ship
20:45with three or four
20:46masts and pure
20:47white sails.
20:49It appears off the
20:50coast of Canada,
20:51and according to
20:52local folklore,
20:53the mystery ship
20:54emerges right before
20:55a storm.
20:56The weirdest part?
20:58The ship is said
20:59to be completely
20:59engulfed in flames.
21:02Legend has it that
21:03in 1900, a group
21:04of sailors raced
21:05toward the phantom
21:06ship in a small
21:06rowboat.
21:07They were aiming
21:08to rescue the crew,
21:09but only ended up
21:10watching the ship
21:11suddenly vanished
21:12before their eyes.
21:13In 2008, a boy
21:15reported seeing an
21:16unexplained bright
21:17white and gold ship
21:19which vanished
21:19into thin air.
21:21There have been so
21:22many eyewitness
21:23accounts across the
21:24last 200 years,
21:25all of which give
21:26the exact same
21:27description of the
21:28phantom ship.
21:29One explanation is
21:30that the legend
21:31came about due to
21:32natural electrical
21:33phenomenon.
21:34That's pretty much
21:35lightning to you
21:36and me.
21:37Some say these
21:38flashes of bright
21:38light led to people
21:40seeing the illusion
21:41of a ship.
21:42Others believe that
21:43moonlight reflecting
21:44off thick fog is
21:45causing people to see
21:46things which aren't
21:47there.
21:48Uh-huh.
21:49Have you ever
21:50danced the night
21:51away?
21:52Well, in the 16th
21:53century, Strasbourg,
21:54France danced the
21:55entire summer away.
21:57The townspeople were
21:58seemingly struck by a
21:59sudden and uncontrollable
22:01urge to dance, which
22:02lasted three months.
22:04It all started when
22:05some woman stepped into
22:06the street and began
22:07to inexplicably bust a
22:09move.
22:10She kept dancing for
22:11an entire week, and
22:12before long, dozens of
22:14people joined her.
22:15The bizarre episode
22:16began in July and
22:18didn't end until
22:19September.
22:20There are stories of
22:21similar manias happening
22:22in Germany, the
22:23Netherlands, and
22:24Switzerland.
22:25One theory is that a
22:26stress-induced hysteria
22:27took over the city.
22:29Another suggests that
22:30the dancers were part
22:31of a super-weird
22:32movement.
22:33Theory number three
22:34suggests that the
22:35townspeople accidentally
22:36ate some toxic mold that
22:38produced wild hallucinations.
22:41Um, dance fever?
22:42In 2020, a star
22:44completely vanished from
22:46the night sky with
22:47zero explanation.
22:49Astronomers had had the
22:50star on their radar for
22:51around 20 years as it
22:53had an eerie blue glow.
22:54The star even shone
22:56brighter than the sun.
22:57Some say it vanished
22:58into a black hole, but
23:00that would result in a
23:01massive explosion called a
23:02supernova that we'd have
23:04definitely spotted.
23:05Others say that the
23:06star lost some of its
23:08mass, or that huge
23:09amounts of space dust are
23:10blocking the view.
23:12Hey, down in front, I'm
23:13watching a star here.
23:15For years, residents of
23:17the small city of Taos,
23:18New Mexico, have been
23:19haunted by a low-frequency
23:21noise drifting in with the
23:23desert's air.
23:24But it's not all
23:25residents.
23:26Only 2% report hearing
23:28the strange noise.
23:29And even those people
23:30describe it very
23:31differently.
23:32Some believe the
23:33sounds are caused by
23:34weird acoustics in the
23:35area.
23:36Others think it's mass
23:37hysteria.
23:38Well, some think there's
23:39a spookier reason.
23:41To this day, no one has
23:42ever found the source of
23:44the mysterious hum.
23:46You're walking alone in
23:47the woods and suddenly
23:48stumble across a random
23:50staircase that comes out
23:51of nowhere and doesn't go
23:53anywhere either.
23:54There are hundreds of
23:55reports of these random
23:57staircases in forests all
23:58over the world, from the
24:00US, Italy, Cambodia, and
24:02the Philippines.
24:03The staircases don't seem
24:04abandoned.
24:05They're usually well
24:06cleaned and free of
24:07vegetation.
24:08They never appear at the
24:09edges of forests either.
24:11It's always deep in the
24:12heart, usually several
24:13miles from any town.
24:15The legend of the stairs
24:17takes a creepy turn as
24:18they almost always appear
24:20in areas where someone has
24:21disappeared.
24:22People claim to have even
24:24seen the stairs move.
24:26One man climbed some
24:27stairs hidden deep in the
24:28woods to escape a stray
24:30dog.
24:30While he claims he was
24:32only up there for five
24:33minutes, legend suggests
24:34that he had been gone for
24:36five years.
24:37More and more sightings of
24:39these mysterious staircases
24:40are appearing, but despite
24:42new evidence, it seems we're
24:44no closer to finding out where
24:45they're appearing from or
24:47why.
24:48In Seattle, back in 1954,
24:51there was a bizarre windshield
24:52pitting galore.
24:54Residents began seeing holes and
24:56dents in their car windshields.
24:57Police initially believed it to
24:59be a kid causing trouble with a
25:00BB device, but the same thing
25:02began happening in other
25:04nearby towns.
25:05By April, over 3,000 cases of
25:08cracked windshields had been
25:09reported before the unexplained
25:11event abruptly stopped.
25:13Some people think the
25:14unexplained damage came from a
25:16new transmitter at a local
25:17radio station.
25:18They were convinced the radio
25:20waves were damaging the glass.
25:22Others believed it to be the
25:24work of sand fleas who burrowed
25:26into the windshields.
25:27Cosmic rays is another popular
25:29theory, but it was never
25:31actually confirmed whether the
25:32windshields were even cracked in
25:34the first place.
25:35Most reports suggest that the
25:37residents imagined the whole
25:38incident, but no one knows why.
25:41In November 2020, an unexplained
25:44metal monolith was discovered in a
25:46remote area of the Red Rock Canyon
25:48State Park in Utah.
25:50People were left baffled by the
25:52strange object, but just days later,
25:54it vanished.
25:55Some people say that the object
25:57was removed because its random
25:59appearance sparked so much media
26:00coverage with links to aliens and
26:02other supernatural theories.
26:04But the authorities denied ever
26:06moving the structure.
26:08Stranger still, less than two weeks
26:10after people stumbled across the
26:11first bizarre creation, a second
26:14monolith was discovered nearly
26:15halfway across the planet.
26:17A third one soon appeared in
26:18California, with a fourth appearing
26:21in New Mexico, but vanishing the
26:23very same day.
26:24No one knows where the monolith
26:26came from, or why, or if more
26:29will ever appear.
26:30A world-renowned Swedish diving team
26:33were searching for sunken treasure in
26:35the Gulf of Bothnia, when they
26:37stumbled across a 200-foot object,
26:39which was covered in unnatural or
26:41alien-looking symbols.
26:43There was so much electrical energy in
26:45the area at the time, that the
26:47divers couldn't snap a clear shot of
26:49the mysterious object.
26:50The perfectly round disc on the
26:52ocean floor looked eerily like a
26:54UFO.
26:55The divers, some of whom had 20
26:57years of experience, reported
26:59having never seen anything quite
27:01like it before.
27:02Known as the Baltic Sea Anomaly, the
27:05origins of this object and what it
27:07actually is are yet to be
27:09discovered.
27:09Theém ships delivered.
