The Domovoi is a mysterious household spirit found in Slavic folklore. Traditionally associated with the home, hearth, family, protection, and household order, the Domovoi was sometimes imagined as an elderly gray-bearded man living near the stove.
Different traditions describe the spirit in different ways, including as a protector of the family who could become troublesome when disrespected. Some folklore also connects the Domovoi with ancestors and the continuity of the household across generations.
