00:03The sun is massive, however it looks tiny compared to the central star in a system 180 light years
00:10away. Its red giant star called Arduratus is around 350 times the width of the sun and it
00:16is in its final stages of life. However, what's even wilder is that the surface of that star is
00:21bubbling and astronomers have recently calculated that those bubbles are gargantuan as well.
00:26Researchers say the boiling bubbles of Arduratus are some 75 times the size of our sun. So why are
00:32there bubbles? A star's heat is generated inside at its core, with that heat then moving outward to
00:37its surface via convection. Our sun does this too, but its bubbles are much smaller, only around 620
00:43miles across, or just smaller than the state of Texas. Astronomers say simply observing these
00:48bubbles is something that is blowing their minds as well. With one of the researchers saying about it,
00:52we had never expected the data to be such high quality that we could see so many details
00:57of the convection of the stellar surface.
