00:02France's fuel shortage is surging, with one in six fuel stations now running short of petrol or diesel.

00:10Official government figures show that 16% of France's stations are now affected, up from 11% on Saturday.

00:19And the pressure is particularly severe around Paris.

00:23In Ile de France, the figure has reached 18%, but several other regions are reporting even higher levels.

00:32Pays de Valois is at 20%, Grand Est stands at 19%, and both Centrale Val de Loire and Normandy are

00:41at 18%.

00:42In fact, every region except Corsica is now above 13%.

00:48And there is an important detail behind these numbers.

00:52The official figures only classify a station as experiencing a shortage if it has completely run out of petrol or

01:01completely run out of diesel.

01:03That means stations facing partial shortages, limited supplies, or long queues may not be fully reflected in the headline figure.

01:12So the disruption on the ground could be considerably broader than the official 16% suggests.

01:19At the same time, the cost of fuel is reaching unprecedented levels.

01:36That is a new all-time high.

01:39Petrol prices are also above their previous peaks.
