00:14For six months, the Consortium of International Journalists investigated the secretive deportation arrangements
00:21made by the US government with a vast group of countries, many of them in Africa.
00:27They found that 49 out of 54 African countries had been approached in secrecy by the US government
00:34to take in migrants from third countries, often in exchange for financial favours.
00:40But the US has also used visa bans and other restrictions to force several countries into accepting such deportation deals.
00:50As a result, numerous migrants have found themselves in legal limbo,
00:54being held in deportation centres without charges in countries they have no links with.
