00:13the ongoing war. Now he has returned to his house in eastern Khartoum, but he has found
00:19a new and challenging reality.
00:22My house was used as a military barracks for the RSF fighters in eastern Nile province.
00:27I found ammunition and uniforms and a lot of damage. Everything was looted or destroyed.
00:33We need to start all over again, but everything is very expensive and prices are rapidly increasing.
00:39We don't get any support from the government and services aren't stable. It's a real burden.
00:45For his family, coming home was only the first step,
00:49as rebuilding their lives is a constant struggle ever since.
00:54More than four million displaced Sudanese have returned to their home cities in 2026,
00:59according to the United Nations. Half of them have come back to the capital Khartoum.
01:04But for many, home is still far from normal. The challenge now is to rebuild a life here.
01:11Across Khartoum, recovery is visible, but uneven. Electricity and other services are slowly returning,
01:19while damaged infrastructure and environmental problems continue to affect daily life.
01:25For many people, getting their homes back into a livable condition is a major challenge.
01:31Meanwhile, the rainy season is adding further pressure,
01:34with rubbish piling up and poor drainage causing more issues. Authorities say restoring basic services
01:43is a priority, and they try to encourage more people to return.
01:49We are providing services like removing war remnants, supporting health, education, water and electricity
01:56services. Alongside the reopening of the markets, the government is doing its best and went miles to
02:02revive services. But many people in the city are calling on the government to do more.
02:09The priority should be repairing infrastructure and assessing the damage to buildings, roads and
02:14bridges as well. The work is enormous now, and it needs hands, collaboration and support from the
02:20government to rehabilitate the capital and help the returnees to repair their homes again.
02:25For families like Negms, returning home doesn't mean the end of displacement.
02:31It marks the start of another difficult chapter, rebuilding their homes, livelihoods, and a sense of
02:38normalcy.
