The Sawmill (Music and Vocals Laurel Varner, Lyrics Clement J Gareau)
The saws were just a ripping
That first day I worked up the hill
And the wet boards were flying
In that old run down sawmill
The foreman rushed over to me
And yelled if you're gonna last
You feed those new planks you see
And feed them straight and fast
Chorus:
As I run across the shop floor
I hear that awfull noise
And as I open the exit door
I hear that awfull voice
I slave at that old sawmill
I should resign while I can
It's a battle all uphill
Or should I wait to be canned
My wife hated that small town
Where everyone worked at the mill
Her work at the shop got her down
They had trouble making sills
One day she got up and left
Couldn't live with no shopping mall
She drove straight into the sunset
Left it up to gossip to tell all
