00:24For the Lord,
00:54Arise.
01:11Who would pass here must face both fire and steel.
01:14Are you willing to do so?
01:16Yes.
01:27Are you willing to abide by this obligation?
01:38Remember the penalty.
01:42Brother Knights, show them all.
01:55The history that we were all taught growing up is wrong.
01:59My name is Scott Wolter and I'm a forensic geologist.
02:03There's a hidden history in this country that nobody knows about.
02:07There are pyramids here, chambers, tombs, inscriptions.
02:11They're all over this country.
02:13We're going to investigate these artifacts and sites and we're going to get to the truth.
02:17Sometimes history isn't what we've been told.
02:35American history is filled with stories.
02:39Those that stand out are the ones that have gripped us as a nation.
02:44Or the ones where foggy details have exploded into full-blown conspiracies.
02:51My latest research has turned up a story that fits squarely in both categories.
02:57The assassination of President Lincoln.
03:00I'm on my way to meet a man who says he's uncovered information that could challenge everything we thought we
03:06knew about Lincoln's murder at the hands of John Wilkes Booth.
03:11His name is John DeSalvo.
03:13And his collection of memorabilia tied to the President's assassination is unmatched.
03:34Take a look at this.
03:37This is the only known existing piece of Ford's Theatre's curtain
03:43that was hanging right near Lincoln's head when he was shot and it has his blood on it.
03:48That's amazing.
03:49Somebody had the presence of mind to grab some of this piece of cloth here with the bloodstains on it.
03:55Were they souvenir collectors back then?
03:57Yes, a lot of souvenir and relic hunters.
03:59In fact, the curtain that this came from completely disappeared the next day.
04:03This is the only known piece that still remains.
04:06Wow.
04:07These are actual strands of Lincoln's hair.
04:11Really?
04:12Now, this is the highlight of my collection.
04:14This is a Civil War roll book and diary combined.
04:19Sure.
04:19This officer was stationed in Washington that night in which Lincoln was shot.
04:25Okay.
04:25And almost hour by hour writes what's happening.
04:29As the information was being disseminated.
04:32Right.
04:32April 14, 1865, 12 p.m.
04:37It is just reported that President Lincoln has been shot.
04:416 a.m.
04:42The President is mortally wounded by an assassin at Ford's Theatre.
04:478 o'clock a.m.
04:49I have just heard from a police officer that the President is dead.
04:54The streets are one great house of mourning.
04:57John, that is really amazing.
05:00Just chilling to hear that.
05:01Essentially a play-by-play of one of the signature moments of American history.
05:05Many historians have written about the events surrounding Lincoln's assassination.
05:10It is commonly accepted that Lincoln, our country's 16th president, was killed by the famous stage actor John Wilkes Booth.
05:19Booth shot Lincoln in the back of the head at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., less than three months
05:25after Lincoln abolished slavery.
05:28Booth then escaped on horseback.
05:30He was reportedly caught and killed by Union troops.
05:34To this day, some people question whether Booth acted alone in killing Lincoln, or whether other powerful people orchestrated his
05:42murder.
05:45The prevailing wisdom is, or the theory that everybody buys into these days, I guess, is that John Wilkes Booth
05:51was a lone gunman.
05:53Do you buy that theory?
05:54Booth was not the only one involved in the assassination.
05:59There were two other accomplices.
06:02Booth was going to kill President Lincoln.
06:05His other accomplice was going to kill Vice President Andrew Johnson.
06:09And his third accomplice was going to kill the Secretary of State, William Seward.
06:14So the plan was to decapitate the top three officials of the Union government.
06:20Which would have been a huge blow and really would have helped the Confederate cause.
06:25The whole night could have been different if General Grant attended the theatre with Lincoln.
06:31So why is that important?
06:32Well, Grant had a big entourage around him, like any general should have.
06:38And they would have came to the theatre with him, protected him.
06:40But Grant turned down the invitation.
06:42Some people think someone convinced him not to go to the theatre with Lincoln.
06:49The other interesting thing is, Lincoln's bodyguard, his normal bodyguard, was told not to attend the theatre, that he had
06:56extra work to do in the War Department office.
06:59The more you tell me, the more people have to be involved for all these parts to come into play
07:04for the President to be assassinated.
07:07Let's go back and talk about John Wilkes Booth.
07:09He had to have other help, other people with the power, with the money, with the information, so he could
07:16carry out this plot.
07:18John Wilkes Booth was a sympathizer with the Confederates.
07:21In fact, they think he was a Confederate spy.
07:23He made several trips to Canada, where we know was the location of the Confederate Secret Service.
07:29In Canada?
07:30Yes.
07:30Okay.
07:31The base was in Montreal.
07:33Booth had a lot of contacts through the Secret Service.
07:35The guy named John Surat, an interesting person.
07:38He was a Confederate spy, well-educated, and he's the one who introduced Booth to his other accomplices, the ones
07:45who targeted Johnson and Seward, the Secretary of State and the Vice President.
07:50He's one of these key players behind the scenes that we really don't know about.
07:53Right, exactly.
07:54So clearly, there's more going on here.
07:57This sounds like there's a conspiracy.
07:58So maybe John Wilkes Booth wasn't the primary player, but just a pawn.
08:02You know, at that time, there was a secret society in Canada, a Confederate secret society called the Knights of
08:09the Golden Circle.
08:10And we know Booth traveled to Canada at least once and met with them.
08:14Now, was he just associating with them, or were they recruiting him or using him in an overall plan?
08:23The Knights of the Golden Circle was known to be a ruthless, elite group of Confederate spies and Confederate sympathizers.
08:31Their goal was to ensure the South remained a political and economic powerhouse even after slavery was abolished.
08:39Its members were inducted through grisly rituals and operated largely in the shadows.
08:45Some believe their mission was to amass gold, contacts, and power that they could use to start a second civil
08:52war in the event the South lost the first one.
08:56Booth definitely had a connection with them, and Surat was definitely involved in that.
09:01So if Booth was being financed or part of a bigger plan, that's where I would be looking at the
09:07Knights of the Golden Circle.
09:08What I'm hearing from you, based on everything that you've told me, these are pieces of evidence.
09:13I mean, there are factual bits of information, and when you add them all up, to me, it says conspiracy.
09:20And I'd love to learn more about this.
09:22There was this former CIA officer.
09:25They've never had a chance to contact him, but maybe you can follow up.
09:45The idea that a Confederate secret society could be behind the assassination of President Lincoln is nothing I've ever heard
09:52before.
09:54If it's true that the Knights of the Golden Circle had a hand in the assassination, I need to understand
10:01more about the group and its members.
10:03But it might be a matter of sifting through secrets and spies with someone who's former CIA.
10:11So, uh, what can I do for you?
10:12I'm looking into the assassination of President Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth, and I think that there's something more going
10:19on here.
10:19I think he may have been associated with a secret organization.
10:23Okay.
10:23And I'm told that you might have some evidence that could help shed some light on that.
10:27I most certainly do.
10:28Well, I need to see it.
11:04Come on, have a seat.
11:06Scott, I want you to have a look at that.
11:08Hmm.
11:09Well, what do we have here?
11:11Well, this is something called a visionary cipher tableau that was found in the possession of John Wilkes Booth, or
11:17more specifically in his trunk at the hotel he was staying at when he shot Lincoln.
11:21Okay.
11:22Basically, it's just a system for encrypting messages.
11:25This looks like serious business.
11:27No, absolutely.
11:27It was quite high grade, quite sophisticated for its time.
11:30So it's hard to explain why Booth would have had this if he wasn't in secret communication with somebody, almost
11:37certainly the Confederate government or Confederate army.
11:40I don't see why somebody would just use this as something to write messages to themselves.
11:44It's hard to explain why else.
11:46Yeah.
11:46Can you show me how this works?
11:48So here's a tableau you can use.
11:50All right.
11:51Why don't we work on decrypting this message here.
11:54This message has been encrypted with the phrase, spy museum.
11:58That's the code word.
11:59That's the keyword, yes.
12:01Okay.
12:01So what I'd like you to do is above each letter of the ciphertext, write down one letter of the
12:05keywords.
12:05So you're just going to write spy museum, spy museum, spy museum.
12:08Okay, all the way through.
12:09All the way across.
12:10One letter for one letter.
12:11S-P-Y.
12:12When you get to the end of museum, write spy museum again.
12:16So what you've got here is the keyword and the ciphertext, and we're going to derive the English language message.
12:22Okay.
12:22S is your keyword, so I want you to look in the S column here on the tableau.
12:27Up here.
12:27Now your first cipher letter is L, so go down the S column until you find an L in the
12:32column.
12:33All right, right here now.
12:34And what row is that in?
12:35That's a T.
12:36T, so write down T.
12:38The next key letter is P, so go to the P column.
12:42So I go down to D.
12:43Okay, go down until you find a D.
12:46O.
12:47O.
12:48Two.
12:48The message is to somebody.
12:50Somebody.
12:50That's a good beginning.
13:04Okay, something's starting to crystallize a little bit here.
13:09So what does that say so far?
13:11To general.
13:11Ah, so let's see who the general is.
13:13All right, I want to keep going here.
13:15This is getting good here.
13:18Down to K.
13:19S.
13:20P down to W.
13:23H.
13:26I bet you we're going to find an A here.
13:29There it is.
13:32To general Sherman.
13:33So we know this is a union message and it continues on.
13:36Okay, yeah.
13:36I'll save you some work here.
13:38It's orders from General Grant to General Sherman to move Sherman's division across the Tennessee River and to attack Chattanooga
13:45and send me a report about your casualties and your rations and how much ammunition you've got.
13:50I was surprised the message Mark had me translate was a union message and not a Confederate one.
13:57It turns out both sides used the cipher at one point during the war.
14:01But only Confederates like John Wilkes Booth used it for the duration as the primary source of coded communication.
14:09The union had much more sophisticated systems that they used for messages they'd send by telegraph.
14:14And they actually had a family of 10 or 12 of them that they changed out quite regularly, which is
14:18good cipher practice.
14:20You know, you really have to be on top of these keywords, right?
14:23And if the enemy gets a hold of a message like that, it could be disaster.
14:26Absolutely.
14:27And that was really the Confederates big failing is during the entire war until the last couple of weeks, they
14:33only used two different keywords.
14:35Manchester Bluff and complete victory.
14:38Two words?
14:39Two.
14:39That's it?
14:40That's it.
14:41And once the Union figured that out, any Confederate message they got could be very easily deciphered.
14:47But the Confederates did have a workaround.
14:50In 1864, there was a lot of Confederate secret activity up in Canada.
14:55And they would communicate by couriers who would actually sneak through Union lands to get to Canada to bring messages
15:01back.
15:02In Canada?
15:03Yes.
15:03That's interesting because I do know that John Wilkes Booth did spend some time in Canada.
15:08Canada at this time was still a British colony.
15:11And Britain and its colonies were very dependent on the cotton that came from the Confederate States.
15:16So in an economic sense, their bread was buttered very much on the Confederate side, not on the Union side.
15:21Makes a lot of sense.
15:22Actually, there's one more thing I'd like to show you.
15:24Sounds great.
15:32So in 1864, the Confederate Congress appropriated $5 million, which was big money at the time, for a sabotage campaigning
15:39as the Union.
15:41And one million of that went for something they called the Northwest Conspiracy.
15:45Northwest?
15:45Yes.
15:46I can show you on the map what that was.
15:49The Northwest Conspiracy referred to the Northwest Territory, which would these days be the Midwest and the Upper Midwest.
15:55Okay, sure.
15:56And what's interesting is that this Northwest Conspiracy was being run by Confederate saboteurs operating out of Canada.
16:03The people involved were a pretty ruthless bunch.
16:05Part of the Northwest Conspiracy was a group called Quantrill's Raiders.
16:10Quantrill's not very well remembered these days, but one of the members of his gang has actually become very, very
16:16famous.
16:17And perhaps maybe you recognize that young man there?
16:19I do.
16:20Jesse James.
16:23So are you saying that one of the most famous assassins, John Wilkes Booth, and one of the most famous
16:29outlaws, Jesse James, were part of this Northwest Conspiracy?
16:32Could these guys have known each other and worked together?
16:35There's pretty strong reason to suspect that they were part of this same organization, this Northwest Conspiracy.
16:40That's incredible.
16:41So do you think maybe the assassination was part of this?
16:44I mean, we've got John Wilkes Booth we know had this code on him.
16:47We know that he assassinated the president.
16:49What else do we know?
16:50Now, we don't really know precisely Booth's motivation, but there is good reason to suspect, at any rate, that he
16:57was linked in with the Confederate government.
16:59Some people have even suggested that Booth may have been part of a secret society called Knights of the Golden
17:05Circle.
17:06The KGC, right?
17:07The KGC, yes.
17:08And we do know that many of the Confederate saboteurs operating out of Canada were, in fact, members of the
17:15Knights of the Golden Circle.
17:16It's not something I know tremendously a lot about, but if it's helpful to you, I know somebody who does.
17:21I tell you what, I'd appreciate any help you can give me.
17:37You're gonna make me work for this, aren't you?
17:39Yeah, I am.
17:59When I started looking into a conspiracy surrounding the assassination of President Lincoln, I thought I was just looking into
18:07the actions of one man, John Wilkes-Booth.
18:09But as the evidence slowly unravels, I'm realizing that this mystery is really part of something much bigger.
18:17I would never have guessed that Booth may have been acting on orders from a Confederate secret society called the
18:24Knights of the Golden Circle.
18:27The KGC was well known for its power and influence during the Civil War, and was equally well known for
18:34its gruesome rituals.
18:35One of which was said to require initiates to kneel on a human corpse to prove their allegiance.
18:43I think getting to the truth about who really orchestrated the president's murder hinges on understanding the men involved in
18:51this secret society and their motives.
18:54Booth, his friend John Surratt, and none other than Jesse James have connections to the KGC,
19:00and may have been part of a larger Confederate terror campaign against the Union called the Northwest Conspiracy,
19:07the success of which may have depended on killing Lincoln.
19:12So were they all involved in his murder?
19:15Hopefully the man in this message leads me to some answers.
19:27So
19:46Warren, I'm looking into
19:48John Wilkes Booth and the assassination of President Lincoln.
19:51And this group called the Knights of the Golden Circle,
19:54I understand you know a little something about that.
19:56What can you tell me?
19:57Well, I wrote a book about the Knights of the Golden Circle.
19:59It's called Rebel Gold.
20:00And the Knights of the Golden Circle were a Confederate underground group, a very secret society.
20:05So what do we know that links John Wilkes Booth to the Knights of the Golden Circle?
20:10There's a lot of evidence that shows that Booth was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle.
20:14The government itself was after the KGC during the war,
20:17and was very focused on membership in the KGC.
20:20They investigated every member of Booth's gang for membership.
20:23Well, clearly the Knights of the Golden Circle was a powerful organization.
20:28Who are some of the people that were involved?
20:30Anybody that we might know?
20:31Well, one of the key members was John Wilkes Booth, of course.
20:35We had Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate general who became the head of the KKK.
20:39John Calhoun in the earlier phase, who was the Vice President of the United States.
20:44Maybe even Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of War.
20:46What kind of power do these people have? Were they influential?
20:49The Knights of the Golden Circle, in my view, were more powerful than the CIA or the FBI is today.
20:54It was a large group. There were 500,000 people involved.
20:58Jesse James was.
20:59I thought he was an outlaw.
21:00Well, he was an outlaw, but in truth was the field commander of the Knights of the Golden Circle.
21:04In terms of gathering the gold and the silver and the arms that needed to be buried for a second
21:09civil war.
21:11You always hear about Jesse James robbing, but you never hear of them actually obtaining the money for their own
21:16benefit.
21:17Where did that money go? It went underground for the cause of the Confederacy.
21:21What other evidence do you have that links John Wilkes Booth with the Knights of the Golden Circle?
21:25There's something very interesting in the Library of Congress called The Great Conspiracy.
21:29And you can tell that the person who wrote the book was a member.
21:33When I found this document at the Library of Congress, it scared me.
21:37I see an interesting passage right here. It says,
21:40Before they entered, Booth was blindfolded and his arms bound.
21:46The word Rome was pronounced and the door thrown open.
21:50Two men entered the assembly and stood in front of the candidate with naked swords planted at his heart.
21:58To risk all to help Southern independence shake off the hated Yankee domination.
22:04You know what this sounds like? An initiation ritual.
22:07It is an initiation ritual. It's very Masonic.
22:10The Knights of the Golden Circle were a Confederate Masonic cabal, if you will.
22:14This document, it talks about two things.
22:17One, that Booth was initiated to the KGC, right, in Baltimore.
22:20And then later on, it talks about a meeting of the Knights of the Golden Circle,
22:24where they plotted to deliver a mortal blow against the president.
22:28And that the person, Booth, who delivered that blow, would be aided and abetted in the rescue from that scene.
22:34That's in here.
22:35History says that John Wilkes Booth was killed in the barn in Virginia two weeks after the assassination by Union
22:41troops.
22:41But there's tons of circumstantial evidence to say that was a patsy who was killed.
22:46And he was rescued by the KGC, which put him up to the assassination to begin with.
22:51Really?
22:52Yes.
22:56You're absolutely convinced he was a member?
22:58I'm absolutely convinced John Wilkes Booth was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle.
23:02Okay, so if he was, and he was the one who basically volunteered or was assigned to assassinate the president,
23:08what were the motives behind them that led them to want to kill him?
23:12What was their end game, their goal?
23:14Well, the Knights of the Golden Circle wanted to establish a confederacy
23:18that extended into the South American continent and the Caribbean.
23:22Lincoln posed too much of a challenge.
23:24He was warned many, many times that they were out to not only undermine the Union, but to kill him.
23:30They wanted to send a message to somebody that they were credible, they were powerful, and we pulled this off.
23:38Absolutely.
23:39And one of the most influential members of the Knights of the Golden Circle, in fact, its leader,
23:43is the only Confederate general to have a statue appear in Washington, D.C.
23:47It's right down the road. I'll take you to see it.
23:48You got me intrigued.
24:02Albert Pike.
24:08He was a high-ranking Mason.
24:10Are you telling me that he was also a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle at the same
24:15time?
24:16More than that, I believe he was the leader of the Knights of the Golden Circle,
24:19and the most powerful Mason in the world at the time.
24:23And he basically organized this group.
24:26This was a surprise to me, because I knew all about his work with Freemasonry.
24:30Are there parallels between the two organizations?
24:33They share an initiation ritual that's very similar.
24:36You had to get into it through rituals that were very off the record.
24:42Let me ask you about sacred geometry.
24:44The Freemasons, this is one of their main tenets of sacred geometry.
24:48The early Freemasons in this country, George Washington and others,
24:53were very oriented towards sacred geometry, meaning how to lay out an entire country, if you will,
24:59and the city of Washington on a geometric basis.
25:03The Freemasons had this tradition, but they also had, with the Knights of the Golden Circle, a goal.
25:08And what was that goal?
25:09It was to lay out a underground Fort Knox, where gold, silver, and arms could be hidden secretly.
25:17So Warren, you're saying that the KGC buried caches of gold around the country for this revival of the South.
25:24How did they do that? Was Pike involved with that?
25:27Pike was the mastermind behind laying out this grid of underground depositories.
25:31Where did the KGC get their money?
25:33They had money from the membership fees and dues.
25:36And then secondly, they used Jesse James and his rebels to steal payroll from U.S. troops.
25:41It was all being taken and put into these underground depositories.
25:45Knights of the Golden Circle caches, we could say.
25:47There was a plan to resurrect the Confederacy with this money and these arms that were hidden.
25:52Did anybody ever find the gold? Is it still out there?
25:54Conservatively, there's hundreds of millions of dollars of buried gold and silver underground.
26:00Large amounts have already been found.
26:02Some of it's forgotten to history.
26:03Some of it's still being protected by this organization.
26:06Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
26:07Yeah.
26:07You're saying that the KGC still exists and they're still guarding gold?
26:30Thank you so much for your time and sharing with our subscribers.
26:42and they're still guarding gold yeah I'm saying that a legacy organization that grew out of the
26:48Knights of the Golden Circle the KGC still exists and they are protecting this money this is amazing
26:53I mean we're talking about going back to the time of the Civil War this organization is still
26:57perpetuating right to this day still guarding gold and still guarding an ideology or a belief
27:04system that they still embrace to this day absolutely the KGC still exists and they are
27:08protecting this money not for the revival of Confederacy but for some purpose it's way
27:13bigger than most people could conceive of the organization continued on they just changed
27:18their goals around the goals changed with time but in the end it was having to do with a new
27:23vision
27:23of the world sure a new order a new world order maybe a new world order earlier this year I
27:31investigated rumors that a modern-day secret society called the new world order exists
27:37and now I'm wondering if it's a modern-day incarnation of the Knights of the Golden
27:41Circle some believe the new world order is a radical group of people who want to enact things
27:47like population control and world domination while operating under a Nazi-like government
27:53that spans the globe I'm not sure about that but I do think that the new world order could be
28:00responsible for a monument called the Georgia Guidestones they contain cryptic messages some
28:06consider frightening that could be interpreted to reflect both new world order and KGC principles
28:15a man named RC Christian whose real identity is unknown strolled into the local bank with a
28:21briefcase chock full of cash to build the monument and now I'm wondering if that money came from the KGC's
28:28secret coffers
28:32similarities between the new world order and the KGC are striking both groups wanted a new radical
28:39government both had connections to Confederate states and both use sacred geometry to build things
28:47I wonder if the new world order could be a continuation of the Knights of the Golden Circle which included
28:53Booth
28:54Jesse James and other powerful men from that period
29:00it continues on and and there's lots of money involved here and that's being watched guarded today in some
29:06places I've been personally accosted by unidentified gentlemen wearing lots of firepower who'd make it
29:13very clear they would like you to leave they'd like you to move on you're kidding no it happens all
29:16the
29:16time Wow I've been to 30 Knights of the Golden Circle underground depositories and they all have
29:22a pattern of symbolism some are warnings to stay away some are saying this place is booby-trapped they're
29:28primarily in the south and southwest stretching from Georgia to New Mexico I personally have seen
29:34clues pulled out of the ground we pulled up a heart with a line through it what's this made of
29:40metal iron
29:41their only reason we came to that spot in the woods as you follow because we filed two intersecting
29:46lines that were given coordinates by the clues that we were coming across okay that would intercept
29:51with another point and when the two lines intersect you'd find something this is crazy so did Pike was he
29:58part of placing the gold or what role did he play well Pike organized a depository grid and and how
30:04it
30:04was laid out Pike at the end of his life in his late 70s or 80s made an enormous journey
30:11throughout the
30:11West and Southwest and even up north to check on all these depositories so right up to the day he
30:17died
30:17he was still part of the KGC absolutely we're talking about hundreds and hundreds of millions
30:22dollars worth of silver and gold bars secret initiations Jesse James the murder of a president
30:32coordinates pointing to underground depositories the more I learned about the KGC the more I realize
30:39how powerful a group it really was this investigation began with a cipher connected to a dead assassin but like
30:49most great conspiracies the story goes much deeper in this case leading to a hidden network of caches that
30:57may contain millions of dollars in gold and weapons both of which must have been stockpiled for a specific
31:03purpose in order to fully understand this conspiracy and how far it stretches there's one thing I need to
31:12do follow the money
31:32I've tracked down a guy named Jay long who's been hunting for the vast amount of KGC treasure still
31:39thought to be buried underground he thinks the gold may be here in Brownwood Texas and says there
31:46are two other things here proof John Wilkes Booth wasn't actually killed by the Union Army after
31:52assassinating the president and the final resting place of Jesse James which has been debated for more
31:59than a century welcome to Brownwood I'm investigating the assassination of President Lincoln and I
32:08recently learned that John Wilkes Booth the man accused of killing him was a member of a group called
32:13the Knights of the Golden Circle the history that we were told was that John Wilkes Booth was killed by
32:18Union troops shortly after the assassination in a barn he survived you're saying he survived what happened to
32:25in 1922 a newspaper article came out that said that John Wilkes Booth came to Brownwood and spent the
32:32year of 1871 in Brownwood why is Brownwood such a central figure if you will in the in the whole
32:38KGC
32:39mystery Brownwood was a relatively wild frontier place after the war okay for those that want to run
32:46from the federal government and for outlaws in general that were operating under the cover of
32:52the KDC okay so what happened here well in 1869 a man came from New Mexico his name was Henry
33:00Ford not
33:01that Henry Ford not the automaker okay he soon became a key figure in the Knights of the Golden Circle
33:07in
33:07Brownwood this is one of the few illustrations of our Henry Ford he arrived in the Williams ranch in
33:13southern Brown County everybody says he was penniless and the next thing you know he was a partner in
33:19this bank beside us in a couple more years he was elected county clerk of Brown County so when people
33:25asked about Ford's past what did he say he wouldn't answer he didn't let anybody know his past most of
33:32his relatives believe he fought under Quantrill well I recently learned about Quantrill's Raiders and the
33:37famous outlaw Jesse James and his brother Frank were part of that group yes a lot of the old-timers
33:43brothers in Brownwood believed that Henry Ford was really Jesse James
34:25so you think Henry Ford was Jesse James Henry Ford could have been another alias for Jesse James it's a
34:33very
34:33complicated topic Henry Ford died in 1910 about two blocks from where we're standing here the strange thing about it
34:40Jesse James's mother and brother Frank came to his funeral really and it was one of the largest
34:47funerals ever in the history of Brownwood Frank James made a public announcement that said that they
34:53shouldn't put a tombstone on Henry Ford's grave if they did he would come back to town and blow it
34:58to
34:58kingdom come why do you think he said that he wanted to protect his identity I believe one of the
35:04things I
35:04recently learned from Warren Gettler is that the KGC had multiple caches of gold reserves so do you
35:12think there's any of these caches around Brownwood anything's possible let's sit down I'll show you
35:17right here this is a map of the downtown area of Brownwood okay well here's the star so that's where
35:23we are right now right yes okay there's supposed to be a tunnel entrance right underneath this slot here
35:29the park sits on there's also supposed to be one in the bank building behind us okay then we have
35:35another story about a heavy equipment operator whose backhoe fell into a tunnel entrance over under this
35:42insurance company parking lot several years ago okay we believe that tunnel goes all the way to West
35:48Anderson Street that's where the Knights of the Golden Circle were said to hold their meetings at
35:53well Jay I think we could probably find these tunnels there's a technology called ground
35:59penetrating radar that I've used before we may be able to find one of these tunnels and learn more
36:04about the way the KGC operated but the other possibility is maybe that one of these caches of
36:10gold is still here anything's possible I've used ground penetrating radar or GPR before to look for
36:19clues to a medieval burial in Arizona's Mustang Mountains because it detects man-made disturbances
36:26underground it will be perfect for finding tunnels allegedly buried below Brownwood after setting Jay
36:34up with the GPR technician to look for evidence of the KGC's gold caches I had one more stop in
36:41Texas to
36:41make the Rio Grande
36:59when I was researching all the members of the KGC I turned up a possible member named J.O. Shelby
37:06who
37:06I found out is the ancestor of my friend Don Shelby
37:12Don offered to meet me near the border to explain to me what he says is the real truth about
37:17the KGC's
37:18involvement in Lincoln's assassination and the truth about the secret society's overall end game
37:28Don how you doing Scott good to see you thanks for meeting me here is this him right here yeah
37:33this
37:33is a picture of J.O. Shelby as he's heading off into Mexico from Eagle Pass here over into Piedras
37:39Negras J.O. Shelby was considered by both union and competitive forces the greatest cavalry general in
37:47the Trans-Mississippi and he engendered a great deal of admiration but let me ask you this was General
37:54Shelby a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle I don't see how he could keep from being a
37:59member of the
38:00Knights of the Golden Circle perhaps even a high-end officer and in his own brigade Jesse James and the
38:08Quantrill Raiders rode as civilian marauders and outriders attached to that brigade but I'm also
38:14convinced that he didn't know anything about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln because there was
38:19sort of a relationship there he was one of Lincoln's favorite generals he was his favorite
38:24a cavalry general because he never surrendered this is fascinating I mean that you've got uh the
38:33president united states uh northerner then you've got a confederate general and these two must have had
38:39high regard for each other I mean why have we never heard of this I want to show you a
38:43few things
38:44a few things out by the Rio Grande you ride horses don't you sure
39:11on the Rio Grande right here at Eagle Pass is where General Shelby and his regiment of men
39:17crossed over into Piedra Negres in the Mexican territory what was he doing down in Mexico there was a hope
39:24that they could rebuild the confederacy further south in Mexico in central America I have a map here
39:31let me show you where the KGC planned to do this and why it was called the Golden Circle so
39:37you see this
39:38here map of the western hemisphere so right around the Gulf of Mexico was this giant circle and they hoped
39:46because of the richness of the of the land in central America and uh southern Mexico that they could
39:52grow cotton and continue with slavery with slavery they knew that they needed cheap labor in fact
39:59unpaid labor in order to have the fortunes of the south continue to rise they believed this would be
40:06the golden circle for the confederacy what this really sounds like is a southern version of
40:12manifest destiny well it was exactly manifest destiny confederate style if that was the plan
40:18of the KGC to extend slavery south uh Lincoln wasn't going to have any part of that and he would
40:23have stopped
40:24it but having that initiative in his mind that basically signed his death warrant didn't it it would seem to
40:30me that that was one of the plans that the KGC had with relationship to John Wilkes Booth well Don
40:36you
40:36know that the Knights of the Golden Circle were stockpiling hordes of gold did uh General Shelby have
40:42any role in that well I'm not sure but there was obviously an effort to try to create a treasury
40:49for
40:49the confederacy but the story that makes me feel the best about being a descendant of Joe Shelby is that
40:55when they came across the confederate treasury of gold in Austin Texas the men tried to loot that
41:03treasury and he stood before them and said you will not his man he said to them we know what
41:12history
41:12will say of us we are the last let us also be the best I like that that says a
41:20lot about him it does
41:22or it could also mean that he knew where there was plenty of other gold
41:35well Don the Knights of the Golden Circle as it turns out when you dig deeper you find out that
41:40their goal was was very grand they were going to basically create their own country that would have
41:46global consequences it would have impacted the whole world if they had been successful the KGC has an
41:51element that you have to admire in the scope of their thinking they needed to expand internationally
41:58as a plan b should they lose the war that took some fairly remarkable and sophisticated thinking
42:05definitely
42:11my investigation of the Lincoln assassination has led me to realize that the mastermind behind this monumental
42:17event was not a soul gunman but in fact a powerful and well-funded secret society called the Knights
42:24of the Golden Circle a society that included everyone from the highest ranking Freemason of the time
42:31to outlawed Jesse James the GPR search in Brownwood Texas where some believe Jesse James is buried did turn up
42:40evidence of what might be KGC tunnels underground not only that there's evidence other cities across
42:48the country including Princeton Indiana and Leavenworth Kansas might have tunnels too now the next step is today
42:58my search for the truth revealed what I think is the real story behind Lincoln's killing
43:05I think he was murdered because he was standing in the way of the KGC building a new empire
43:11a golden circle of supporters that reached well beyond our southern border
43:15here
43:15and
43:17you
43:18you
43:18you
