00:00The United States and Denmark announced that they have come to an agreement over Greenland,
00:05with US President Donald Trump saying the deal would give Washington permanent control of the
00:10island's security. Trump says no US adversary can have a base, military presence, or make
00:16sensitive investments in Greenland any longer without Washington's express written approval.
00:21The deal comes after months of behind-the-scenes negotiations between US, Danish, and Greenlandic
00:27officials, which followed months of threats by the US President to take control of the
00:31island. Since his return to the Oval Office, Trump has rampantly pushed a national security
00:37agenda to acquire the Arctic nation, either through a purchase agreement with Denmark, or
00:42via military force. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen hailed the deal as a great agreement
00:48for all parties involved, which still recognizes Danish sovereignty and the Greenlandic people's
00:53right to self-determination. Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen also welcomed
00:59the agreement, saying it greatly boosts regional security, and called it, quote, a benefit to
