00:02The Postal Service has stopped building a new computer system that would have changed
00:06how mail-in ballots are handled this election.
00:08It was ordered by President Trump, and the Supreme Court blocked it last week.
00:12Postmaster General David Steiner says once that court ruling came down, the work stopped.
00:18Trump's executive order called for federal agencies to build state citizenship lists
00:23and feed them into a new Postal Service portal.
00:26The idea was that mail ballots could only be sent to voters cleared through that system.
00:31But earlier this month, a whistleblower report said the system wasn't ready and had serious
00:36problems.
00:37Steiner doesn't agree with that.
00:39He says, yes, they had some trouble building something this big this fast, but he's confident
00:44it would have been ready around September 15th.
00:47For this election, though, the Postal Service says it's back to business as usual.
