00:00The following contest is scheduled for one fall, and it is for the Intercontinental Championship.
00:17Making his way to the right, from Marietta, Georgia, weighing at 223 pounds, is the Intercontinental Champion, Cody Rhodes.
00:27Cody Rhodes was embarrassed this past Friday night on SmackDown, and tonight, he plans revenge.
00:32Remember, a few weeks ago, Rhodes, well, he severed his relationship with what he called that loser, Ted DiBiase, and
00:40then gave DiBiase what he deserved, a paper bag over his head.
00:44Well, this past Friday night on SmackDown, Cody would continue this rant.
00:52You need a paper bag. You especially need a paper bag.
00:56Hey, look it. How does Ted DiBiase repay Cody Rhodes' tough love?
01:02An ambush by DiBiase, disguised as a bagged fan, and then he wanted to bag Cody Rhodes himself.
01:10The audacity of Ted DiBiase, after everything, Booker, that DiBiase was taught by Cody Rhodes to get to this point,
01:18to do this to his former mentor.
01:20Let me tell you something. Ted DiBiase, like I said before, this is the Ted I've been waiting on.
01:27Cody Rhodes cannot be too happy that he's going to have to defend his Intercontinental Championship against revenge-minded Ted
01:34DiBiase tonight.
01:35Won't you take this bag, Cole, and put it over your head?
01:38Well, he gave it to you. Obviously, you need it worse than I do.
01:42I wonder if we get some yarn and put it on the top of it for you.
01:44I come from running, I come from running.
01:47And the jumper from West Palm, Florida, weighing in at 435 pounds, Ted DiBiase.
01:55Ladies and gentlemen, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes have been, well, part of one another's lives for a number of
02:01years now.
02:02In fact, if you go to www.com and you go to their feature one of Night of Champions' top
02:07ten moments is the night that DiBiase and Rhodes formed their relationship.
02:11And over the years, they've been tag team champions. They've blossomed together as legacy.
02:15They were reunited earlier this year when Rhodes became DiBiase's life coach.
02:20You know what I can't understand, Cole, is how you can sit there and say, out of your mouth, it
02:24just came out, these two young men blossomed together.
02:26But a few moments ago, you said that, well, Cody Rhodes taught Ted DiBiase everything he knows.
02:32Come on.
02:32Exactly. They blossomed together.
02:34Exactly.
02:34They blossomed together and Cody Rhodes continued to grow while Ted DiBiase, who wilted away, the way I see it.
02:41Today's the dead primary objective tonight is just to go out here and beat the bricks of Cody Rhodes.
02:47That's what I want to see. The title will just be a bonus.
02:49Ladies and gentlemen, this is about the Intercontinental Championship, a title that was formed in 1979.
02:55The inaugural champion, the great Hall of Famer, Pat Patterson.
02:59In fact, more than a dozen Hall of Famers have held this great championship over the years.
03:03The likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Don Morocco and Roddy Piper.
03:10Booker T.
03:11Shawn Michaels.
03:12You're not a Hall of Famer yet, Booker.
03:14Soon to be, I'm sure.
03:17DiBiase and Rhodes locking it up the center of the ring.
03:19Who do you like in this one, Booker?
03:21You know, I've got to go with the champ, you know.
03:23Right now, Ted is swimming uphill.
03:26Right now, Cody Rhodes is primed.
03:28The guy is ready.
03:29You like that right there.
03:30The guy is smooth.
03:31And Ted DiBiase is smooth as well.
03:33These two men, as I mentioned before, know each other so well, seem to know each other's moves.
03:37I can't understand why these fans at ringside are actually wearing those bags on their head.
03:42Well, they must feel like they deserve to be bagged.
03:46Kicked right to the face in that acrylic mask that worked almost to protect Cody Rhodes that time.
03:51Oh, really?
03:52Imagine that.
03:52Why do you think he's worn that thing for so long now?
03:55It's legal.
03:56Hey, here's an interesting note about the Intercontinental Championship, King.
03:59The longest title reign ever, of course, was the honky-tonk man when he held the title for 14 months.
04:05That title reign started right here in Buffalo, New York.
04:09Claimed to be the greatest incoming champion of all time.
04:12I do remember that.
04:12Who can argue with him?
04:14Oh, and DiBiase get clothesline there.
04:17Hook of the leg on Rhodes.
04:19I'll tell you, let me tell you something.
04:20If Cody Rhodes let Ted DiBiase be the night, Ted, all of his problems would go away with one big
04:25win tonight.
04:26Of course, DiBiase, the son of the Hall of Famer, the million-dollar man.
04:32You know, DiBiase, he's had some issues getting on track over the past year.
04:36Really lost his way somewhere.
04:38And again, I think Rhodes is really bringing DiBiase back to the fold before DiBiase went off.
04:42I'll tell you what that is right there, Cole.
04:44I think they're just huge shoes to feel.
04:46I mean, his dad was great in trying to feel those shoes.
04:49I'm sure Ted got a lot of pressure on him.
04:51Oh, nice drop kick by DiBiase.
04:53Again, into the cover for the Intercontinental Championship.
04:55I'm going to blow a hole in the argument, Booger.
04:58Cody Rhodes, his dad is a Hall of Famer, the great American Dream, Dusty Rhodes.
05:02And look at what Cody Rhodes has accomplished.
05:03That argument makes no sense.
05:04No, no, what I'm saying, some people feel those shoes a little bit better.
05:07Cody has filled those shoes right now.
05:09Ted is still working on it.
05:11Wow.
05:12Man, that's just an insult right there.
05:15DiBiase not taking kindly to it.
05:17Look at DiBiase.
05:18Ted, get on and just beat up on this boy, man.
05:25Cody, knee right to the midsection, and Cody suddenly in control.
05:31You know, I like Ted DiBiase, but this kid, this kid got to get a mean streak and just know
05:35how to go out there and just beat up somebody.
05:36All of these moves, I mean, I'm going to-
05:40Oh, disaster to the skull.
05:41That's what I'm talking about, man.
05:42You cannot play with Cody Rhodes, this kid.
05:45It's dangerous.
05:46Cody Rhodes, as long as he's wearing that weapon as a, or that mask as a weapon.
05:50Well, I look at Cody Rhodes, covering the hook of the leg yet again, and DiBiase powers out.
05:54And he didn't use the mask as a weapon on that great kick.
05:56Yes, he did right before the kick, he certainly did.
05:58I just put the bags on.
06:02Cody Rhodes won the Intercontinental Championship back on August 12th,
06:05when he knocked off the former champion Ezekiel Jackson.
06:10You guys, you said earlier, who could argue with the fact that maybe Honky Tonk Man
06:14was the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time?
06:16I'll tell you who would argue with it, Cody Rhodes.
06:19He doesn't think that anybody has ever been Intercontinental Champion except himself.
06:23That's how self-centered this young man has become.
06:25Well, he calls himself the triumphant new face of Friday Night SmackDown, does Rhodes.
06:31Says he's an inspiration that people are jealous of his abilities and his success.
06:35Cody says, this is just the beginning.
06:36The Intercontinental Championship is just a prelude to the World Heavyweight Championship.
06:41I think it's true, and I think he believes that.
06:42I think it's ironic that he calls himself the new face and wouldn't even show his face.
06:46But, you know, Booker, you make a really good point, because over the years,
06:49the Intercontinental Championship really has been the gateway to the next step,
06:53which would be the world title or the WWE Championship.
06:56You know, you're exactly right.
06:57I mean, winning that Intercontinental Championship, it lets everybody know that you are a major player.
07:02You are ready, you are the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.
07:06Cody Rhodes is ready, though.
07:09I mean, I look at his technical style.
07:11I mean, he's totally sound in every area.
07:14He was once called unstable, Rhodes was, by Randy Orton.
07:17And Rhodes responded, saying that it's a thin line between unstable and thriving.
07:23And Cody Rhodes is indeed thriving so far tonight.
07:26I believe that, too.
07:30Well, I'm a little surprised, I'm a little concerned that Ted DiBiase hasn't gotten off to a better start.
07:36Cody Rhodes has pretty much dominated this action so far.
07:40Look, both men's shoulders down.
07:46And Rhodes, I believe he may have used the mask that time again.
07:51It's hard to tell.
07:53Sometimes the light hits that mask and, you know, the glare's a bit better.
07:55You know, sometimes, though, you know, you can't cry out with spilled milk.
07:58I mean, Ted DiBiase, he got an obstacle.
08:00He got to overcome it, bottom line.
08:02The problem is, guys, too, is that mask is legal.
08:04It has been approved for use by Cody Rhodes to protect his face that was surgically repaired earlier this year.
08:09Well, it's got to end, somehow.
08:11It's got to be some sort of time limit.
08:12Well, how do you know?
08:13Are you a doctor?
08:14Eventually, Cody Rhodes' face will be healed.
08:16Are you a doctor?
08:16I'm not a doctor.
08:17Maybe this is something that he's going to have to deal with throughout his career.
08:20You don't know that.
08:22Oh, yeah.
08:22I'm sure you're right.
08:23He'll probably want to wear that his entire career.
08:25That's what I'm talking about right here.
08:27This is the Ted DiBiase that needs to come out.
08:30Just put it on that boy, Ted.
08:33Uh-oh.
08:34Cody Rhodes again.
08:35Too much distance in between right there.
08:38Earlier today on Twitter, Ted DiBiase said that, quote, it's time for a change.
08:44Ted, I'm the Intercontinental Champion.
08:47And I'm gonna tell you right now, Cole, I don't see the change in Ted DiBiase that I
08:51really want to see.
08:53I thought Ted DiBiase looked better than ever when he had that bag on his head a few
08:56weeks ago.
08:59The only one that would look better with a bag on would be you, Book.
09:02You got one here at ringside.
09:03Actually, that's for you, Cole.
09:06Yeah, I think somehow, if your man there with the famous face mask is victorious,
09:12you should don a mask in honor of the victory, Cole.
09:15I'll put the bag on if you wish.
09:16Yeah, you should don the bag.
09:17I think it'd be great.
09:20The problem is, is people that wear the badge, Gary, they're not comfortable within themselves.
09:26Oh, really?
09:26They're not.
09:27I would wear the badge because I'm comfortable with who I am.
09:31See, that's why Booker should wear it back because he doesn't quite know where he's
09:34going, whether he's going or coming.
09:35I know where I'm going, Cole, and if you don't shut up, I'm going.
09:38Right upside his hand, right?
09:39Exactly.
09:40Here's Cody into the cover, and again, DiBiase rolls the shoulder out.
09:45Well, Ted DiBiase is gonna have to do something here to build some momentum.
09:49Like you said, King, right now, Cody Rhodes has been in total control since the beginning
09:53of this match.
09:54Ted need to break out, like I say, need to get a little fight and a little mean streak.
09:59That's what I'm waiting on.
10:01Well, you may be waiting a long, long time, because I'm yet to see it.
10:04We saw a little glimpse of it Friday night on SmackDown, but I think that little flicker
10:07of fire has been put out.
10:15Look it, see?
10:16What?
10:17Well, that gentleman, or it might be a woman for all I know.
10:21Anyway, obviously not comfortable within his or her skin.
10:24Wait a minute, here we go, Ted.
10:25Whoa.
10:25Whoa.
10:26I guess the weight issues have gotten them so upset they've got to bag their face because
10:30of it.
10:30Oh!
10:31Well, that's true, too.
10:36Oh, and DiBiase trying him out.
10:38Some sort of comeback as he taunts Rhodes.
10:42Oh!
10:44Full contact Intercontinental Championship up for grabs.
10:49Ted's gonna have to bring in a little bit more, man.
10:51I like how he's bringing it, but he's gonna have to go up to the top and just do something
10:56to this kid.
10:57Come on, Ted.
10:58Here we go.
11:00Oh, man.
11:00That's what I'm talking about.
11:01Sidewalk slam.
11:02Wicked spinebuster.
11:03Could have it here and a kick out.
11:05I call it a sidewalk slam.
11:06Well, you're right.
11:07Sidewalk slam.
11:08Yeah, yeah.
11:09You call it a spinebuster.
11:09And you're a six-time world champion?
11:11I call it a spinebuster.
11:12You're gonna, you're safe.
11:13Safe.
11:14You're right about one thing.
11:15Ted is gonna have to do something expert.
11:16Sidewalk slam.
11:17Because as long as Cody Rhodes has that protective covering on his face, I mean, you know,
11:22Wait a minute.
11:22What damage can Ted do to him?
11:25Yeah.
11:26Did you say something?
11:27Dropkick to the face.
11:28Again, this time hooks the inside leg.
11:31And Cody Rhodes wisely.
11:33Great champions find a way to get out of a serious situation.
11:36That's what Rhodes does.
11:37It was a great move right there.
11:38Check it out right here.
11:40Great move by Ted.
11:42But right here.
11:43But that's why Cody wears a face mask.
11:45Cody Rhodes is just in perfect position to grab that rope.
11:47That's what I'm talking about.
11:48Positioning is everything when you're out there in the middle of that ring.
11:51Well, if Cody Rhodes hadn't had that protective face mask on,
11:54that could have been a match-ending move right there from Ted.
11:57Well, maybe if Ted would have pulled him into the middle of that ring,
12:00it could have been over.
12:03Wait a minute.
12:04Hit him in the chin.
12:06Oh, well, look at this now.
12:07Look at this.
12:08Headbutt's legal.
12:10Oh!
12:12Now, DiBiase didn't shatter his hand when he just threw that right into the face mask of Rhodes.
12:17Here we go.
12:18Uh-oh, DiBiase.
12:19Look at DiBiase.
12:20Get that thing off.
12:21Well, trying to rip the mask off, the protective mask.
12:24And that's legal as well.
12:25Oh, Cody Rhodes.
12:27Oh, here we go.
12:28Oh, no.
12:30Finally.
12:31Well, that is not right.
12:32Even playing field.
12:33That's what I'm talking about, King.
12:35Now, let's go to school.
12:36Let's get some work done.
12:37Oh, look at this.
12:38DiBiase.
12:39DiBiase.
12:40He got caught.
12:41Cody Rhodes retains the title.
12:43Cody Rhodes with a handful of tights.
12:45The winner of this match and still the Intercontinental Champion, Cody Rhodes.
12:53Ladies and gentlemen, that was a work of art by the Intercontinental Champion, Cody Rhodes.
12:59It almost looked like he was allowing DiBiase to take his mask off.
13:03And when DiBiase celebrated and was gonna use the mask as a weapon, what does Rhodes do?
13:07He sneaks in and picks up the victory.
13:10You're giving this young man way too much credit.
13:12He cheated to win.
13:14You know, I wouldn't have since I wouldn't say that.
13:16Who cheated?
13:16He didn't try to use the mask.
13:18Explain to me here how Cody Rhodes cheated.
13:20Okay, just watch.
13:24We'll see here.
13:25Look at, DiBiase wants to use the mask as a weapon.
13:28Let's see if Cody's got a handful of tights.
13:30Yes.
13:31Well, he did, but he did what he had to do to win.
13:33You know, the way I look at that right there, that was a green win right there, any way you
13:37look at it.
13:37Right there, Cody Rhodes just pulled off the bag trick.
13:40And you're right, because I think he was just trying to stabilize himself when he used the tights of Ted
13:44DiBiase.
13:45Great victory for a great champion.
13:47Well, why don't both of you put bags on your heads?
