00:02The Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday created a regulatory pathway allowing
00:06certain trading venues to offer tokenized versions of publicly traded U.S. stocks, according
00:10to CNBC.
00:11The five-year innovation exemption requires stock tokens to provide holders with the same
00:15rights as traditional shares, including dividends and voting rights.
00:19Companies can also block their securities from being tokenized.
00:22Trading platforms must notify companies and wait 30 days before launching a token, giving
00:27issuers time to object.
00:28The exemption includes volume limits to reduce potential volatility.
00:33The move comes two days after the Clarity Act failed to advance in the Senate.
00:36Coinbase, Robinhood, Gemini, and Kraken currently offer tokenized equities offshore, but not
00:41to U.S. customers.
