The BFAR vessel BRP Datu Magat Salamat was allegedly rammed by China Coast Guard vessel “21585” off Palawan on Sept. 18 while delivering fuel assistance to Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The collision damaged the vessel’s starboard side, with railings, metal supports, deck fixtures, and equipment reportedly bent, detached, or displaced. The incident came a day after the BFAR vessel was freed from Hasa-Hasa Shoal, where it had run aground while carrying out the government’s KBBM fuel subsidy mission.
