00:00Congratulations also on your new role.
00:02Clean energy and water is essential for Londoners.
00:04We know that the climate crisis is getting worse.
00:07We've seen the heatwaves and the deaths we've had this summer,
00:10nearly 3,000 people estimated by the Health Security Agency.
00:14You mentioned data centres there, and that's what I want to talk about today.
00:18We know that the government considers data centres as essential infrastructure,
00:21critical infrastructure, but for most people,
00:24critical infrastructure would be water, electricity, hospitals.
00:28We also know that the water industry bodies have said they're concerned
00:31about the use of water, and also when we look at one data centre of one gigawatts
00:36could use as much electricity as two million homes.
00:39So my question is, would you be prepared to say no to a data centre
00:42if it didn't secure clean water and energy supply?
01:03Well, I thought, Chair, that as the members, so proficient in Urdu,
01:10I would speak in Urdu.
01:12I was worried the question may be Urdu.
01:15And for those Urdu speakers, I apologise if I spoke with a Russian accent.
01:24Can you also speak in rubbish, Mr. Mayor, which is what he usually uses?
01:27Mr. Mayor, my time's ticking, and I'm asking you a question about the climate crisis.
01:31Chair, can I just say that the member raises an issue
01:34that we are taking incredibly seriously.
