00:09From outside, probably yes, probably no. I don't know. But from inside, no way. We are very happy, very pleased.

00:19We really enjoyed that moment at the end of the game with the fans. So also the fans, I think
00:24they appreciate the effort from the spirit, from the players, the performance from the players.

01:04I think after a legend like Sir Alex, a legend like Wenger, a legend like Pep, I think it's normal,
01:14the doubts from the fans, from you, from everyone.
01:17It's normal. It's part of the decision that I took when I decided to join this club, because again, we
01:29are talking not about normal manager,
01:33we are talking about legend. If you speak with the Man United people, Sir Alex is a legend, Arsenal, Wenger,
01:39and if you speak with the City fans, Pep is a legend.
01:42It's normal. But it's part of the life. But I don't know if these kind of games, you know, for
01:54the fans, for sure they are happy.
01:56And this is the only thing I care.

02:06Do you think your sort of philosophy about how you approach the domestic cups is similar to Pep? He obviously

02:15I think we prepared all the games, trying to win games, and try to compete to win the competition.
02:24Then at the end, we see if we are able to win or not. But for sure, tomorrow game, that
02:30again, I think it will be a tricky game,
02:32because the one games are the difficult ones. We're going to try to win the game, and then we see.
02:38And will you, a bit like Pep, will you swap the goalkeeper for the domestic cups? Will you give Rulli

02:45I was doing the same also in Chelsea and Leicester. Tomorrow we are going to give Rulli minutes.
02:53Yeah. And also, will this be a good chance for Erling to have a rest?
02:58We see. Erling is one of the players that play 90 minutes back-to-back, you know, Porto and Man
03:07United.
03:08He's not the only one. I think we have six, seven players that they play 90-90.
03:12And for some of them, I'm not saying for all of them, but for some of them, probably we need
03:16some rest.
03:18And so you've called the three youngsters up for the first team this season.
03:23But just overall, in terms of the academy itself, you've obviously got history with the academy.
03:29How do you assess the kind of health of the academy at the moment?
03:34I think when the young players, they are good players, it's not the age that, you know, is going to
03:42close and open the door.
03:43If they are good, they work with us. For sure, they need to be good players.
03:49But also in terms of attitude, for instance, we have these three players that they are with us.
03:53But when they drop and they play with the second team, we have always one in charge from my staff
03:57that they go there, follow them.
03:59And the first of all is to behave. And then for sure, they need to perform in the right way.
04:06But we pay attention to the way they play, the way they behave, because in the moment that they are
04:11with us, when they drop,
04:13they need to be a good example for the other one.
04:17And there's a lot of hype around Ryan McAdoo, obviously, because he's been such a star and shown a lot
04:23of skill.
04:24Does he particularly deal well with that kind of pressure, that kind of spotlight in terms of his behaviour?
04:29Absolutely, yeah, absolutely. I think the two games that he played some minutes in the Premier League, it was good.
04:37And nothing changed with him.
04:40Hi Enzo, it's obviously early days here in terms of your time at City, and a lot of the players
04:45coming in,
04:46and everything is kind of new with the squad. So I guess you've got to do a lot of team
04:49building
04:50and making sure there's the right spirit in the group. So then in that sense, how useful was the derby
04:57and the performance on Sunday and the celebrations? Did that kind of accelerate the process of bringing everybody closer together?
05:07Do you think that's helped?
05:08For sure, that kind of game, in general, helped. You can see the reaction at the end from the players
05:14inside the pitch,
05:15the reaction from the players in the press conference, the one that they spoke after the game.
05:21The message was quite similar from all of them. For sure, these kind of games, yeah, they help, especially for
05:28the way.
05:28You know, it's derby, 11v11, if you are able to win, it's already a big joy.
05:33But then in the way we won the game, it's even better.
05:38It took a huge effort, didn't it, to be able to do what they did. Obviously, you brought on Njai
05:45at half-time to be wide on the right,
05:47but the whole midfield was basically, you needed Enzo and Elliot Anderson to do an incredible job.
05:55Were you going for the win, basically, at half-time when it was 0-0? Did you still think, we
06:00can win this game?
06:01100%, yeah, 100%, no doubt. I said half-time, the message to the players, again, I said straight after the
06:11game,
06:11I think with 10 players, the game became very complicated for us, but also for them.
06:18Because you also know that they are top in transition, and they are top with the spacing behind.
06:25So in the moment that we were 10 players, we dropped, we waited a little bit, so no transition, no
06:30spacing behind.
06:31So it became also more difficult for them. So the message of time was, we can win this game.
06:39Is that the kind of game that Erling likes? Because it looked like he was much more involved in the
06:43second half,
06:44as being an option for the team, short passes, long passes?
06:49I don't think so. I think Erling preferred to play around opposite box for a long time, not far from
06:57the opposite goal.
07:00And then again, we just tried to wait a little bit for them, but in the moment that we were
07:05able to recover the ball,
07:06ready to attack, I think we had also, with 10 players, some very long possession.
07:11That means that the intention of the team is always to play, not just to be back, like in that
07:16case with 10 players.
07:17So that's why I'm saying that for me the performance was a very good performance in general.
07:23Hi Enzo. Going back to the academy, obviously you've worked with the under-21s in the past,
07:27and at Chelsea you had five players that had come through City's academy.
07:31Is there something different about the academy here to other places that you're targeting these players for their attributes, their
07:36mentality?
07:37What is it about the academy here?
07:40As you said, because they are from the academy, the feeling I think for them is different.
07:47Also, if you speak with Phil, City is his club.
07:51If you speak with another player that is not from the academy, probably his club is another one.
07:57So they feel in a different way.
07:58That's why when I see some academy player that is good, I love to give the chance,
08:05because I know that deep inside for them it's a different feeling.
08:09But at Chelsea you had players like Colt Palmer, Tosin, Romeo, Lavia, they'd all come through here.
08:17Why is it that these players are reaching that level from this academy at different clubs as well?
08:21Yeah, because not all the academy players, they can join first team.
08:27Some of them, they need to take some different path.
08:30But at Chelsea, I had also players from the academy, Trevor Chalova, Rhys James, Levi Colwell,
08:36all these kind of players, that they were from the academy.
08:42And you can see when you were speaking with them, the way they feel about Chelsea
08:47or the way players here feel about the academy is always different.
08:52And those skills you learned as the under-21 manager here,
08:56are you using those still with the young players that are coming through,
08:59as we mentioned, like Floyd and Ryan, where you're checking up on their lifestyle,
09:04everything, making sure they're at home at the right time?
09:07Because I know you did that when you were under-21 manager.
09:09Yeah, for sure they need their lifestyle.
09:12It's not just about when they are here.
09:14Most of the time it's more when they are away from here than when they are here.
09:18Because here they spend, I don't know, four or five hours,
09:22and then the rest, you know, 20 hours when they are at home,
09:25they need to do the right thing.
09:28When the young players come up to train with the first team,
09:31they've all got a certain level of ability.
09:33So what qualities is it that you're looking for that makes them stand out in the first team?
09:39Yeah, it depends a little bit on the position.
09:41For instance, with Ryan Macedo, if you remember one of my first press conference,
09:47I said that it's that kind of winger that I love because he's not scared,
09:52he wants to ball, he will always be aggressive, 1v1, 1v1, 1v1.
09:56Sometimes you see winger that they receive the ball there and they play back.
10:01Ryan receive the ball there, go forward, go forward.
10:04So it depends a little bit on the position.
10:07We look at different things.
10:09But someone like Floyd or Caden as well,
10:12there were so many young players that went on the summer tour to Asia,
10:17but what was it about those two, their attributes, their attitude that made them stick?
10:24Both physically they are very strong.
10:27Then Floyd is an attacking midfielder,
10:32arriving in the box, good finish, so it can be a good profile.
10:36And Caden again, physically strong.
10:38I think he can be a central defender, fullback, he needs to learn,
10:41but he can be both, he can play in both positions.
