00:01let's cut across to some updates coming in this is regarding the meta case now amid controversy
00:06over child sexual abuse at meta will no longer merely be an intermediary that's what the government
00:12sources are telling us at this point the center is reclassifying meta as a service provider not
00:18merely an intermediary as for the indian government platform the charge for algorithms cannot simply
00:25claim to be intermediaries the government source also goes on to tell us that meta clearly admitted
00:31the mistake committed to um you know child uh reporting child abuse as well content to the
00:37indian law enforcement agencies ashwarya palewal joins us for more details on this should i put
00:45this in context why is this change in how they are read by the indian law so significant
00:53well you know someone one of the things that we have seen that i often speak about is the fact
00:57that they were given protection uh under the intermediary law now that is something that
01:02the government uh at least over the past three to four years was debating and this is not the first
01:06time that we are seeing the government actually making sure uh telling meta that you need to vet
01:11the content that is being put on your platform but under the uh under the previous law under the
01:17previous rules uh meta was in fact being shielded from being accountable with regards to what others
01:22are putting on the platform because they used to claim uh that they are just a platform how can they
01:27vet the content that is being put uh on the platform but the government very very clear this is something
01:32which will not work going forward uh the officials in fact admitted that yes this was a mistake they are
01:37also saying that they will vet the content which is now being put on the platform especially when it
01:42comes to truly because this is something that the government often uh was speaking about and also
01:48uh you know uh they were speaking about the fact that uh all the reporting will now be done uh
01:54under
01:54the whole ministry uh the department that falls on the whole ministry which is i4c so this is something
01:59uh that's very clearly that officials have agreed for and let's hope that this does change the kind
02:05of content that unfortunately we have seen rise on meta platform all right ashwarya thanks so much for
