India's Ministry of External Affairs has reiterated its condemnation of attacks on the sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, expressing grave concern over actions that endanger civilian lives and critical infrastructure. The reaction follows claims by Saudi Arabia that its air defence forces intercepted and destroyed drone and projectile threats launched by Yemen's Houthi militia before they could reach areas near the holy city of Mecca. Riyadh issued emergency warnings and declared that the security of Mecca remains a strict red line. The escalation highlights widening tensions across West Asia and the Red Sea, where Houthi forces have targeted commercial shipping and energy infrastructure while tightening control over key maritime routes near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Although the Indian government statement condemned the strikes on Saudi territory and highlighted the city's global religious importance, it refrained from naming the Houthi militia directly.

00:04is there a bigger conflict that is going to now unfold in the Arab world the
00:09external affairs ministry has in fact responded to the kind of visuals and
00:13claims that have come in from Saudi Arabia was there a Houthi attack a threat
00:18alert has definitely come in over the drone attack that Saudi Arabia has
00:21claimed but here's what external affairs ministry is saying I quickly read out
00:25from the statement India reiterates the condemnation of the attacks on the
00:28sovereign territory of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia of actions that endanger
00:32civilian lives and infrastructure and that it is particularly concerning
00:36because the region is of significance of the city to Muslims across the world
00:42interestingly they the Indian government hasn't mentioned who was behind the
00:47attack those Saudi Arabia's claims that these are the Houthi militia let's listen
00:53in to what external affairs ministry spokesperson has said but also Shivani
00:58Sharma joins me and closely tracks the MEA and the Ministry of Defense
01:01Shivani what I noticed was that the MEA hasn't mentioned or condemned Houthis
01:07specifically they have mentioned of course how they condemn any sort of attack
01:11on Saudi Arabia what do you think is the messaging here and if someone's asking
01:15why would India even give out a statement in this
01:21see Pooja it's very clear that the Indian side has always been calling for peace and
01:26when it comes to the attacks on Saudi Arabia we've seen that how the
01:30condemnation has not come especially in the view of the attacks that have been
01:35now what the Saudi Arabian side has said that the Houthis have attacked in fact they have targeted a
01:40projectile towards Makkah and Makkah happens to be one of the places of most
01:44significance for all the Muslims around the world and that's what has also been
01:49brought out in this release that has come the statement that has come from the
01:53Ministry of External Affairs they say that they condemn this whole conflict
01:57that's going on the kind of attacks that have been targeted towards the civil
02:01areas the infrastructure in Saudi Arabia there are refineries that are being on the
02:07target by the South by the Houthis and now the claims coming in from Saudi
02:11Arabia that Houthis try to attack the holy city of Makkah have brought concerns
02:16and this conflict is escalating with attacks from both the sides increasing
02:21each day so certainly Makkah the the holy city under attack is a red line that has
02:27been drawn and India has also raised concern about the same Shivani thank you very
02:31much for now this basically means what you were witnessing between let's say
02:34Israel and Iran could take a different dimension when it comes to the Arab world
02:39the Middle East the West Asia
02:45so here's the latest basically if you're wondering what's new what happened here
02:49Saudi Arabia is claiming that there was a drone attack that Saudi Saudi
02:55armed forces managed to intercept just in time and that drone threat came from the
03:00Houthi militia they are claiming at this point that they were able to thwart these
03:04attempts that have happened in different areas across Saudi Arabia but they were
03:09able to destroy an intercept in time by the Saudi air defense before it could
03:13even touch the holy city of Mecca Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has warned
03:18Houthis and stated that the security of holy mosque in Mecca will be a red line if
03:22ever targeted Saudi targets is being seen as the latest attack on Saudi energy
03:26infrastructure and more so Riyadh is activating emergency warnings across
03:30make asking people to move to safe places stay indoor at the same time the
03:35battle for the Red Sea is getting more serious and Red Sea is where ladies and
03:39gentlemen Houthi militia has been up extremely significant with its presence
03:44there have been attacks on the ships as well in the West Asia region the Houthis
03:49have made significant gains along Yemen's Western court tightening their grip on
03:53the Bab al-Mandeb strait and India therefore has also reacted to it
04:09allow me to give you some context to what happened with regard to Saudi Arabia and the
04:14Houthis who this is not just acting in isolation it is a bigger difference of
04:18ideologies and the war that we are looking at in the region why is Mecca being
04:24taken so seriously by the Saudi Arabia armed forces this is Islam's most sacred
04:30site Mecca and Medina as it is called and for the Muslims across the world not
04:34just offer certain country or a region it's the focal point as we know of the
04:39annual Hajj pilgrimage so this is as much about a sacred Muslim site but also
04:43about international tourists citizens who are coming from other countries into
04:47Saudi Arabia especially to Mecca attack on Mecca will provoke the entire Muslim
04:52world and definitely that's something Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that sees itself
04:56as as perhaps the main important power of the Muslim sites will have to respond
05:02effectively if ever attacked Mecca therefore Saudi Arabia authorities are
05:06saying if attacked will be a red line and that the consequences could be much
05:11dire on that now let me tell you about Houthis in this case Houthis are
05:16basically a militia based in Yemen and along that coast it was also involved in
05:22the West Asia conflict that we saw with Israel and over the Red Sea remember when
05:26the ships were targeted many say experts specifically with regard to West Asia
05:31that Houthis receive support from Iran Saudi we know is Sunni dominated there is
05:37also a Shia Sunni conflict that we are looking here at this so what the Houthis have
05:42done and managed to do they have taken over the control of the Zucker Island
05:46Hanish Island Great Anish Island as well there's lesser and greater in two terms then
05:51there is the Perim Island Roka and Duba this area holds a lot of significance this is
05:56again the Red Sea ladies and gentlemen where the ships vessels of different
06:02countries go through Houthis remember in the past few years if you've been tracking
06:05West Asia have targeted ships if they think it's connected to Israel or or the USA
06:11and therefore this is the Houthis working primarily against the USA Israel and Saudi
06:17Arabia as well and gaining prominence but if Mecca is targeted as Saudi Arabia is
06:22claiming keep no doubt about it Saudi Arabian forces will have to respond and how
06:29other people who know is the deal now
06:29other people who are catching up with the ship's wind and the lungs are
06:29AND I WANTED TO GET TO PAY
06:29AND I SAID THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BRING YOU
