In the early 1800s, Mary Yellan's life is changed after her father is murdered by shipwreckers. When her mother dies of a broken heart not long afterwards, Mary is forced to go live with her Aunt Patience at her inn on Bodmin Moor. It's there that she discovers her slightly mad Uncle Joss is the wreckers' ringleader and that Jamaica Inn is their headquarters. Mary is determined to bring Joss and his gang to justice and calls upon Joss' younger brother Jem to help.

00:00I set off alone on a journey
00:02to a place far away
00:03from everything I'd ever known.
00:06I had no family left to make
00:08except an aunt I'd met just once.
00:10It was there I was headed.
00:12To the ends of the Earth.
00:14To Bob Minmore.
00:17I'm going to Jamaica Inn.
00:19The witches don't stop there anymore.
00:21That as it makes, we're inbound.
00:24It's just the moors for 20 miles.
00:26Some say there's ghosts.
00:28I'm afraid of ghosts either.
00:31Where's my aunt here?
00:34Patience!
00:35You mustn't mind your Uncle Joss.
00:37There's none around here, don't respect them.
00:42You should be careful.
00:44A man might help himself to what's on offer.
00:47If it's so pretty.
00:48It's not on offer.
00:50There's things going on here you should get caught up in.
00:52I like smuggling.
00:54I'm not stupid.
00:55Well you are if you say it so damn loudly.
00:57You need to take care of Mary, love.
01:00You've got to fit in round here.
01:03Don't you give me judgement for someone you don't understand.
01:09It's the other man.
01:10He tells your uncle what to do.
01:12Who is he?
01:13He can't.
01:14He'll kill me.
01:16What did you want to share with me, Mary?
01:18I think my uncle killed a man.
01:20I can't bear it in my conscience.
01:22She should take care of her own skin.
01:24That's what she should do.
01:27The magistrate has come for her.
01:29What do you know of the dealings at this end?
01:32Nothing, sir.
01:34Do anyone of us know, Mary?
01:35I know there's another man who gives my uncle orders.
01:38Is it you?
01:39What do you think?
01:40You're a thief who stands for everything I despise.
01:43And yet, you like me.
01:46We didn't work for this.
01:51Mr. Davy, I found out that my uncle was a wrecker.
01:55He lures in ships, false lights, murders all the crew.
02:00He was drunk last night, told me everything.
02:02So the landlord talks when he's drunk, does he?
02:08Come on!
02:10There's good in you!
02:12You must leave!
02:18That's okay.
02:21That's okay.
02:27There's a guy, I think.
02:29You're a thief.
02:30And I'm gonna give her a voice now.
02:32There's nobody.
02:34There's a guy, I can give you a hug.
02:38I can't see you.
02:43I can't see you in the building.
