00:15I joined in 90, in 95, you know, the then managing director was leaving, you know, he was taking
00:24his own path. And then in the meeting, Chairman Garu, he was sitting next to me and he just
00:30whispered, I'm going to announce your name as the managing director. Okay, I was about
00:3527 then, you know, and you won't believe it, my heart started beating so fast because,
00:42you know, this is a financial institution, you know, it's public money and one has to
00:48be very much accountable for every single rupee. We are only custodians, we manage the funds.
00:53So that's why, of course, my heart went beating so fast. That is the day I decided that in
01:01my life, Mark Darcy will be the first priority, everybody else is the second. You know, my
01:08husband, my children, everybody was secondary to Mark Darcy. Why? Because I was managing public
01:14money and I'm accountable for it. And I have to be very, very cautious about this fact all
01:22through my life. And also, you know, most people think, sorry to say, but most men think that
01:28women can't do much. Okay, generally. Yeah, they give us full credit at home. Only women
01:34can manage the home. Only women can manage the house. But business, they think only most men
01:40can do it. But that's how it has been traditionally, right? But it's changing now. All women are taking
01:45active role. So for them to believe, when I went for my first daughter's delivery, and
01:51I didn't, I was, I took off for a year, so everybody thought she's gone. She's now going
01:56to come back. Okay? But then when I came back, they were surprised. Very few women have been
02:02given the opportunity in the past, because I know women who are IITs, IIMs just remained
02:10as homemakers, because in the family business, there are already two boys, and that business
02:16is enough for two boys to run it. So this girl will not get a chance. That's how it has
02:22been
02:22traditionally. But yes, she will give her knowledge, she will give her wisdom, she will give her
02:28values to the children of the family and groom them as very good children. But so the general
02:34feeling generally will be that, oh, you know, it's the man's world. That's what I'm trying
02:40to say. So in the man's world, for the men to believe in you and say, yes, she can run
02:48the company, it takes a lot of effort by the woman to get herself to be accepted.
