00:06I told my you know you know the person who I spoke to saying that unless I can
00:12do business you know I'm allowed to do business I'm not you know I can't go
00:16ahead with any proposal where I'm not willing to because I grew up in a very
00:20broad-minded environment you know independent environment so he said well
00:26it suits us very good because they were already in business and the more the
00:31hands the better isn't it so then I came and then one thing I was I was you know
00:38everybody has certain fears and I always had this fear about math you know and
00:44then the business that they wanted to hand it hand over to me was the financial
00:49company the mark that such it funds we have we were about 11 branches then so
00:55you know my husband was running the media company the younger brother was
00:59getting into another media company we had hotels and visor so that's far off the
01:06only business that was available here was the financial sector so I thought if I
01:11don't agree with with that I'll be stuck to the kitchen so I said it's okay I'll do
01:17the struggle but I will go I'll so that's how I took up some a business that I was
01:22not wanting to do but I turned it around from you know it was about 100 crores
01:28turnover and this year we'll be touching about 15,000 crores turnover it's all
01:32about passion and commitment and how ardent you are you know about what you
01:39want to do in life you know you will make time for it when you are ardent about
01:44doing something big yeah you need to dream big also so I joined in 90 in 95 you
01:54know those the then managing director was leaving you know he was taking his own
02:00path and then in the meeting chairman guru he was sitting next to me and he
02:05just whispered I'm going to announce your name as the managing director okay I was
02:09about 27 then you know and you won't believe it my heart started beating so
02:16fast because you know this is a financial institution you know it's public money
02:22and one has to be very much accountable for every single rupee we are only
02:26custodians we manage the funds so that's why of course my heart went beating so
02:32fast that is the day I decided that in my life Mark Darcy will be the first
02:39priority everybody else is the second you know my husband my children everybody
02:45was secondary to Martha see why because I was managing public money and I'm
02:50accountable for it and I have to be very very cautious about this fact all
02:57through my life by the way the family also just wanted me to manage the
03:02business it's not as if they wanted me to really grow it big as but it was my
03:06dream my father-in-law told me this the first day he took me to office he said
03:11Shalja this company is older than you okay and there are people who are your
03:20father's age working in this organization so it will not be possible for them to
03:26change their attitude and behavior okay so bear that in mind and mind you that
03:33helped me so much because I am young and I'm enthusiastic you know I have to work with people
03:43who are 50 years old okay so I was that really helped me to always give them the
03:49due respect for their age you know and work with them it's not easy for a young
03:55person to work with all 50 year olds okay so that but that really helped me how how
04:01I have to be with them you know I can't be like okay I'm the daughter-in-law of so
04:06and so and we own the company that's not the attitude we should have definitely not
04:12for any big organization but at that age you know it really helped me to have the
04:17right thinking so carrying the team along with you is very very important and also
04:23due respect to everyone is very very important my father-in-law gave me a lot
04:28of freedom like he gave me the company and he gave me the freedom to work because
04:34he knew the way I was focused he was seeing he would be walking at 4 a.m. in
04:38the morning on the terrace because he had threats so he had to walk only on the
04:44terrace at home and he would see me getting into the car at 4 30 and leaving
04:49the house early in the mornings so because I used to go by road all the way to Adilabad
04:55all the way to Karim Nagar because I want to be there by 9 a.m. by the time office
04:59opens
05:00and then I work the whole day and then start back at sometimes 8 9 a.m. 9 p.m.
05:05in the night
05:06to come back to the city so he understood within four five years that you know you can you can
05:13take the horse to the water but you can't make it drink right but I was a horse which
05:19was running to the water so he need not worry so he gave me full freedom and it
05:25was my dream to make it big and that's how I worked on that yes and also you
05:32know most people think sorry to say but most men think that women can't do much
05:36okay generally yeah they give us full credit at home only woman can manage the home only
05:43women can manage the house but business they think only most men can do it but that's how
05:48it has been traditionally right but it's changing now all women are taking active role so for them to
05:55believe when I went for my first daughter's delivery and I didn't I was I took off for a year
06:01so
06:01everybody thought she's gone it's not going to come back okay but then when I came back they
06:07were surprised very few women have been given the opportunity in the past because I know women
06:15who are IITs IIMs just remained as homemakers because in the family business there are already
06:22two boys and that business is enough for two boys to run it so this girl will not get a
06:28chance
06:28that's how it has been traditionally but yes she will give her knowledge she will give her wisdom
06:34she will give her values to the children of the family and groom them as very good children but so
06:41the general feeling generally will be that oh you know it's the man's world that's what I'm trying
06:48to say so in the man's world for the men to believe in you and say yes she can run
06:56the company
06:56it takes a lot of effort by the woman to get herself to be accepted
07:04after all of India see, they can keep your phones every, all of you is here keep your phones every
07:10cup of coffee Is this cup of coffee…
07:17Thank you for
07:18Thank you for the opportunity.
