00:0325 years ago on this day my uncle and aunt Michael and Christine died in the south tower of the
00:11world
00:11trade center Michael Egan was a senior executive at Aon there and Christine his sister had gone to
00:18visit him that day as a one-off and a tragic twist of fate had been caught up in the
00:25worst terrorist
00:25attack that we'd seen at that time I was 15 years old and I was in my house when I
00:31heard and initially
00:33I heard the story on the radio and you know it seemed like you know when I imagined a plane
00:38it
00:38seemed like maybe a small thing an accident we didn't know anything about the casualties I remember
00:43going downstairs talking to my family and seeing that it was actually a full airplane into this big
00:49building and I distinctly remember that my mom said to me your uncle Mike works in that building
00:55very quickly this distant tragic event became extremely personal over the next few hours and
01:02days we learned that not only was Michael in the tower when it happened and had died that we also
01:08learned that Christine had gone to visit him that day and she'd also died on that day it means a
01:14lot
01:15to me that a whole generation who wasn't alive during that time is studying in school I think it's
01:21absolutely essential that we keep the story going not just the academic side but also the personal
01:27side for the families of the victims of people who knew them for the gaps that is left in the
01:32lives of
01:33those who survived I think it's really important that it's not seen as just another event in history
01:39this is a directly personal thing that still affects people to this day and the charity since 9-11 that's
01:45organized today is a great example of that their funding goes towards education educating children
01:51to classrooms schools anyone who wants to learn about this will be given a full pack and I think
01:57that's really fantastic work that they're doing a 28 foot sculpture created from steel recovered from
02:04ground zero stands as a memorial to 9-11 in Stratford in East London it is only a small number
02:12of twin
02:13towers remnants permanently sighted outside the US you know I think that what I know of Michael and
02:20Christine after talking to friends and family and my own memories I think that both of them were known in
02:26their lives for being kind for having time for people Christine did a lot of work with the First Nations
02:32people of Northern Canada to help them to help them with health with access to education there's still a
02:39Christine Egan memorial fund in Canada to help people from that community access higher education
02:44if if they would have wanted any legacy it would be to make sure that people could access education
02:50could learn honestly and truthfully about the events of history and I think they want that to continue
