08:13Yeah, so unique in a sense when we've been talking about all the great young talent
08:20here in New Japan Pro Wrestling, two veterans here tonight, decidedly so.
08:25But a match that will inspire absolutely everyone in the back.
08:56It's a difficult one to gauge, Chris.
08:58It is a difficult one. I think we were all wondering just how the crowd will react here tonight,

09:08Tanahashi is certainly unafraid of wearing the black hat every now and then.
09:14Tanahashi, I think, most key out of all of this and said in the build-up to this match, Walker.
09:21At the end of the day, perhaps Goto took so long to become the champion because he was too nice
09:27to be a champion.
09:29Too nice, one of the nicest guys in the business.
09:31And Tanahashi, ultimately, as sunny a disposition as he always has,
09:36has one of the biggest egos in the history of this business.
09:44Tanahashi would walk over his own mother to win that IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
09:50and don't think that he won't do it.

10:08Yes, you can talk about the smiles, but it's all business when we're inside that ring.
10:12That is what has led to Tanahashi being dubbed the Ace of the Universe.
10:16That's not something he put upon himself that was given to him by the people.
10:22Crossed our minds back to two years ago when he was here in Ota.
10:28And this was Hiroki Goto and Yoshihashi successfully defended the IWGP Tag Team Championships
10:34against Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada.
10:37And that was Goto's wheelhouse of tag team wrestling.
10:42This is Tanahashi's wheelhouse of singles wrestling.
10:45But, I mean, that's a house that, right now, Goto is at the very top of.
10:51New beginning victory for Hiroki Goto marks his first and only reign thus far as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
10:59But new beginnings, of course, can be woven out of old threads.
11:03Chris, talk us through that IWGP Heavyweight title match in 2007.
11:07Yeah, I mean, it's only Hiroki Goto full of vim and vinegar returning from excursion.
11:14He thought he could be IWGP Heavyweight Champion right away.
11:17And that was a time where Tanahashi was decidedly an unpopular choice among a lot of the core audience here
11:23in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
11:26And in the darkest times here in New Japan Pro Wrestling, I might have said a different number.
11:34I can tell you there was about 2,500 paid in Ryogoku.
11:37And yet it sounded like 10,000 and some.
11:44Tanahashi always had a mental block after that match because they were so loud, so fervent in their support, in
11:52what they were seeing,
11:53that every single match afterwards was compared to that bout with Goto and New York.
12:01Tanahashi went on record multiple times over the years, calling that one of his favorite matches of his entire career
12:06up until he faced off against AJ Styles in the mid-2010s.
12:12And Hiroki Goto has never forgotten that match just the same.
12:17You move on five years down the line and you see Hiroki Goto get his first piece of a victory
12:22over Hiroshi Tanahashi.

14:12noting that he knew he wasn't going to be in a championship picture anytime soon.
14:17That he had to be willed into that position and was willed by Hiroki Goto.
14:22And now he is here.
14:23He's going to take every single piece of that.

15:59But at the same time, Goto took three years, nine attempts to win that championship.
16:04Now he wants to be in the, you know, the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak.

16:12I want to be the champion and see you try and come from underneath against me.
16:16Well, that match, that idea was a motivating factor against Zack Sabre Jr.
16:21Goto became champion because he wanted this matchup.
16:27And as heartbreaking as it would have been for Goto to end his career,
16:31never becoming IWGP champion, it would be even more heartbreaking if this ring
16:35with the gold was considered underwhelming to a man who was driven by the spirit of sport.
16:40Oh, I mean, I brought up earlier on, that's Zero Chono.
