00:00Very interesting sales numbers here from Germany. EV sales hit 37.7%. Let's just round that up to
00:0638% market share. EV sales, 38% market share in Germany. That's the highest, I believe, ever.
00:15And incredibly, the Tesla Model Y has bounced back to become the best-selling electric car
00:21in Germany. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I'm Sam Evans. We all heard about
00:26Tesla's demise in Europe, and it appears that that was, well, not correct, after all. The second
00:34quarter of 2026 saw plug-in EVs at 37.7% market share in Germany, up from 28.6%
00:41in Q2 of 2025.
00:44EV share is growing pretty strongly. The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling electric car in Germany,
00:51in fact, for all of the last three months. Now, if you look at the last three months of sales
00:58of EVs
00:59in Germany, Model Y didn't win by March, but it did just win. 10,401 Model Ys were sold over
01:06the last
01:0690, well, 92 days, I think it was. Second place was the Volkswagen ID.3. ID.3, 10,082 sales.
01:15In third
01:15place, Skoda's LROC with 9,740. Skoda Enyaq in fourth at 8,943. So you can see here that, yes,
01:25the Tesla Model Y was in first, but the Volkswagen grid were in second, third, and fourth. Next was
01:31the BMW iX, followed by the Volkswagen ID.7. Then you got the Mercedes-Benz CLA, Tesla Model 3. So
01:37Tesla's
01:37not too bad. If you put them both together, they sold nearly 16,000 cars in total over the last
01:43three
01:43months. Not a lot, to be honest, in Germany, but in fact, I think Tesla's probably sold more EVs in
01:49Australia during the last three months than it did in Germany. But still, it is still a good bounce
01:54back for the company. On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the description below.
01:59We have more articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other website that I'm
02:04aware of in the world. So check that out. Link is in the description. And there you'll find our videos
02:11and analysis and articles about everything going on in the EV world. So what was after the Model 3?
02:18You've got the Volkswagen ID.4 and the ID.5, then the Mini Cooper. Surprise, the Mini Cooper sales.
02:23That's kind of a pricey current. Anyway, people like that design, I guess. Cooper Tavaskin was next
02:30with nearly 5,000, followed by the Audi A6 e-tron. Cooper Born, Audi Q6 e-tron, BMW iX3. iX3
02:38sales,
02:38you'd think they'd be a lot higher than that. I'm guessing they're just constrained by production.
02:42Must be. Hyundai Insta, the BMW i4, Citroen EC2, Mercedes EQ8, and the Leap Motor T03.
02:54Intriguing to see, guys, that there is almost no Chinese cars in this list of EVs. Now,
03:01don't get me wrong, the plug-in hybrid list, there's heaps of Chinese cars.
03:04But the EVs, I mean, you've only got Leap Motor there. There's no MG. There is no BYD.
03:13There's no XPeng. There's no Zika. No NIO. I mean, very interesting to see that Chinese EVs not
03:23really getting any traction in Germany. Plug-in hybrids are. Yeah, part of the reason is because
03:28plug-in hybrids are not getting taxed, but that's about to change, by the way. They're about to apply
03:32the EV tax on Chinese-made vehicles to plug-in hybrid Chinese-made vehicles as well. So that
03:38will change. It's going to be tricky for some of those companies. So the big news here, though,
03:43is not whether the Chinese are dominating in Germany. Who really cares, to be honest?
03:46The big news here is just the fact that EV sales are increasing. Nearly 40% market share in Germany.
03:52That's without affordable Chinese EVs. There's not yet. I mean, if you look at the price of Chinese
03:58EVs in Germany, they are literally double or more than double the price that they cost
04:04in China. Double or more than double. So that's really what's holding back, I think, more EV
04:11adoption in Germany. But still, EV prices continue to go down, and that will push adoption even more
04:19and more. So the reason this matters, you know, Norway's obviously 99% or something like that.
04:25But Germany's a much bigger car market than Norway. So these are the kind of car markets we need to
04:30go all in on EVs. I mean, the UK is now over 33%, 34%. We just need to get them
04:36up to that 50% point.
04:37And I think then people are going to start going, well, okay, it's time to give up internal combustion.
04:42It's time to just go all in on EVs. It's going to happen very, very quickly, I think.
04:45The automakers that are not ready for this, not ready for, you know, 80% plus EV sales,
04:51they're going to have a real terrible time over the next five years. It's going to be
04:55really difficult for them. Let me know if you agree with that in the comment section below.
