Prime Minister Mark Carney has delivered a major message to global business leaders as Canada hosts its first-ever investment summit in Toronto. With investors managing more than $120 trillion in assets gathering to explore opportunities in Canada, Carney is positioning the country as an increasingly attractive destination for global capital. The summit comes as Canada works to strengthen its economy, expand trade ties with allies and navigate ongoing tensions with the United States. With major Canadian pension funds helping organize the event, the summit could mark an important push to bring more international investment into Canada.

00:00It's not about who we aren't, but who we are.
00:04It's not about what's lost, but it's what we have and what we can create.
00:11We are kind, generous, hardworking and ambitious people.
00:18We have what the world wants.
00:21The energy, the resources, the talent, the technology, the capital.
00:26And our greatest strength is something that can't be found on any balance sheet.
00:32Trust.
00:37Amazing.
00:40Thank you, Deb.
00:41Merci tout le monde.
00:43Bonsoir.
00:44Thank you, Deb.
00:44Thank you, John.
00:45Sorry, I got distracted.
00:47There's so much here at ROM.
00:49There's so much here in this room.
00:51I want to begin by thanking Deb, Arita, and John Graham for their leadership, for their
00:58hard work, and beyond this event, really for the decades.
01:04I'm sorry I'm aging you, but for the decades that you have both put in and contributed
01:09to Canada's success.
01:15It is.
01:18I'm absolutely delighted to be here with all of you this evening at the Royal Ontario Museum.
01:24Beautiful building, a great institution.
01:28An institution, I would note, that was founded by a banker, a Canadian banker who returned home
01:35from New York, no less.
01:37Sir Edmund Walker saw the great museums.
01:41He viewed them as shop windows through which Canadians and visitors to Canada could grasp
01:47our nation's true potential.
01:50He had an ambitious vision for this institution and an ambitious vision for our country.
01:57And while he was a very capable financier, he understood that great things require a great team.
02:04So he partnered with the provincial government.
02:06He worked with the University of Ontario.
02:08He persuaded other business leaders to join him.
02:12He brought on philanthropists, scientists, citizens to work towards a common goal.
02:19To say that those great Canadians succeeded does an injustice to their legacy.
02:24It was work that changed this city, this province, our nation.
02:28If you seek their monument, you will only find it around you.
02:34Now, it brings me to today.
02:38Once again, Canadians are coming together.
02:42Once again, our ambition is catching up with our potential.
02:48Something's changed over the past year in our country.
02:53Canadians, we all know what I'm talking about. We feel it everywhere.
02:58Canadians are standing united, buying Canadians, confidently choosing a Canadian future.
03:23The federal government, the provinces,
03:26I'd like to salute the premiers here this evening for being here this evening and for what they've been doing
03:32the past 18 months.
03:45The federal government and the provinces have been working in full partnership with First Nations, with Inuit and Métis as
03:55allies in developing projects and as owners in the projects that will shape our future.
04:03Canadian businesses and pension funds are now putting more Canadian capital behind that Canadian ambition.
04:13In the last week alone, a number of them, and I'm not going to name them because I suspect there
04:19are a few more announcements coming,
04:21a number of them have announced plans already to put hundreds of billions of dollars of additional capital to work
04:29here in Canada.
04:40And what we're doing, and when I say we, I mean we. I mean the federal government and the provinces
04:46and territories.
04:46What we're doing is looking to match that level of ambition abroad.
47 days for a trade deal with the UAE.
05:31And as this room knows, it's not just trade, it's also, Mr. Chartrand.
05:37Thank you, President Chartrand, for being here. As this room knows, it's not just about trade, it's also about investment.
05:43So we're shifting how we approach investment into Canada.
05:47We're relaunching Invest in Canada under new leadership with our new CEO, Gurinder Grewal.
05:53If you don't know him, you will very soon.
05:56And our new board chaired by Dominic Barton.
06:00Invest in Canada now has a clear mission to bring the world's capital here
06:05to support Canadian projects, Canadian businesses, Canadian workers.
06:12Canadian workers who are turning our ambition into reality
06:16because our economic transformation is happening on the construction sites
06:21and it's being built by the builders and unions themselves.
06:26These are all acts of solidarity.
06:29Some very large, some very small, but they're being repeated millions of times
06:33proving that together we can give ourselves far more than anyone could ever take away.
06:39And these acts of solidarity are making a statement to the world
06:42that this is a new, powerful and confident, united Canada.
06:58We're together.
07:01Thank you very much.
07:02We're together.
07:03We know that in Canada, we're together.
07:06We're together.
07:08We're together.
07:09the ones on the other, and we assure that no child, no family, no one is left for camp.
07:20This spirit of solidarity and generosity is defined as a country.
07:29Just like this fundamental conviction of Canada, unity does not require uniformity.
07:38Nous croyons que nos différences sont des atouts à cultiver et non des risques à gérer.
07:45Look around this room.
07:54This is a great room. Look around this room.
07:56We come from different regions, the east coast, the west coast, the prairies, Quebec, the far north,
08:03Ontario even, federal, provincial, indigenous governments, business, labour,
08:10Canadians from every background, every generation.
08:14Now, we will not always agree, we don't need to always agree,
08:18but we do agree on something fundamental, where we are going.
08:21There is a new consensus in this country, from Iqaluit to Victoria, to Quebec City and St. John's,
08:29and that consensus is that Canada is taking control of our future.
08:42We will build more, we will trade more with each other, we will trade more with the world,
08:49and we will create sustainable prosperity here at home.
08:53Now, tomorrow, as you know, a number of you have made this happen.
08:59Tomorrow, something remarkable will happen.
09:02The world's largest investors, managing over $120 trillion of assets,
09:10will come to peer into our shop window, because the world is looking at Canada differently.
09:19And I'd suggest we should look at ourselves differently too.
09:24It's not about who we aren't, but who we are.
09:29It's not about what's lost, but it's what we have, and what we can create.
09:36We are a kind, generous, hard-working and ambitious people.
09:43We have what the world wants.
09:46The energy, the resources, the talent, the technology, the capital.
09:51And our greatest strength is something that can't be found on any balance sheet.
09:57Trust.
