00:02This climb holds kind of a mystique around it. It's got a presence at the crag that is
00:10rare to find and I think because it's had so few scents in the 12 years since it's been
00:17completed I think there's a bit of like fear around it as well.
00:24I did some training for this climb specifically. I had to go from being a boulderer which is
00:29a more kind of strength-based sport to a more endurance-based climber. I really
00:36dedicated all my time to power endurance training to focus on sending this route.
00:43Deepwater soloing is climbing above the water without ropes on routes so you're
00:48climbing a lot higher than you would if you were doing a boulder and yeah the
00:51water is the safety. Fall off and make a big splash but this climb is magical it's
00:58just one of the most incredible lines I've ever seen and the fact that it's
01:03hard to access, the fact that there's so many logistics and it's so complicated to
01:08get the right conditions. Welcome to British Summer everybody! I think just adds to
01:12those moments that when it all comes together it just feels so surreal.
01:18In theory I have three more tries today. I've already had one try. I have very very
01:26little experience deepwater soloing so for me this was way out of my comfort zone it
01:31was really pushing me to new realms of the sport. One of the things I love about
01:36climbing is that there's so many different ways to explore it. This route was
01:40climbed in 2012 for the first time and it's had so few ascents since then. I
01:45actually remember the Olympics in 2012 it was in the UK and there was so much hype
01:50around it and that's why Neil called this Olympiad and I'm the first Olympian to
01:54climb it which is pretty cool. Oh my god! I genuinely can't believe that I just
02:02climbed the hardest deepwater solo in the UK, Olympiad. It's one of the most
02:08beautiful climbs I've ever seen. I'm absolutely buzzing.
02:14It was super difficult and I just can't believe we got so lucky with the conditions.
02:22I'm the first woman to climb this which is really cool. I hope to see more women kind
02:27of pushing the boundaries of our sport especially in the UK. I think I'm one and done with deepwater
02:32soloing. You know I've come in, took the hardest thing in the country, had a wonderful experience,
02:38climbed on the wall twice and yeah I think I'll just call it at that.
