00:00Let's go to OpenAI. OpenAI is now considering slowing down the development of cutting-edge AI,
00:05and CEO Sam Altman is urging other AI companies to do the same. Limbo Shringafari broke the story
00:11with Rachel Metzen joins us now. And this is about an internal communication from Sam Altman to the
00:17OpenAI team. And the bit I want you to explain is he also kind of acknowledges that OpenAI can't do
00:23this in isolation. Right. So this was discussed in an all-hand staff meeting this week. And the
00:32sentiment of Altman's remarks is basically that the company is open to pacing the development of
00:40these cutting-edge AI systems, but it can't go it alone, that it is trying to get other companies
00:45on board. And, you know, we will see how many could potentially join. Potentially joins the big
00:53thing. We don't have a sense from Anthropic specifically, right, that they have looked
00:59at the idea of slowing down work at the frontier. We do know that Anthropic, you know, has long been
01:06the company that has been very vocal about the existential risks of AI, right? You have CEO
01:12Dario Amidai has talked about, you know, it's actually been a sort of doomer term has been applied
01:19to him in something that he said he's not. But the company, I think, Anthropic sort of
01:24philosophically has certainly been open to this idea, whether in practice in this moment, they are
01:30ready to do it. And of course, ahead of a potential public listing that could be one of the biggest
01:36is the real question. Shereen, very quickly on the doomerism debate, and that's probably putting it
01:42mildly from an Anthropic employee that resigned, an Anthropic employee who amplified that statement.
01:49What has Anthropic actually said about everything that's being discussed largely online at the moment?
01:55Yeah, so the company did send a statement to us in response to the heated discussion among
02:03staff recently. And they said, we have always been transparent that AI will bring enormous benefits
02:08and unprecedented risks. You know, it's a long statement, so I'm not going to read all of it.
02:12But in summary, they sort of called out their responsible scaling policy and how for a long time,
02:17Anthropic has, you know, had sort of framework in place to not release models if they feel they are
02:25overly dangerous.
