00:00We understand that OpenAI is considering slowing down the development of cutting-edge AI,
00:05with CEO Sam Altman hoping other companies will do the same.
00:09The news comes after employees at leading AI firms raise public concerns
00:13on the increased risks of rapidly developed advanced AI systems.
00:17Let's get more from Bloomberg Intelligence senior analyst Matt Bloxham.
00:20Not just risks, but for some of these current members and former members of these frontier labs,
00:25Anthropocan OpenAI, these are existential risks, risks of human extinction.
00:32We need to take a pause at some point.
00:35Isn't that what they're doing?
00:37Which is, thank you, which is what they're planning.
00:39Is a pause enough?
00:42Does what we've heard from Sam Altman behind closed doors
00:45suggest that we are at a pivot moment now for these frontier labs?
00:50We're definitely at a moment.
00:52Whether it's a pivot or not, I'm not sure.
00:53I mean, it feels a bit like it's a Pandora's box.
00:56This is out there.
00:56All you can now do is to attempt to kind of control it to the extent you can.
01:03But you know that there are all sorts of good and bad actors out there
01:06that have access to these technologies.
01:09So, you know, I think the fact that Sam Altman's coming out in public
01:12to talk about these things, and after we've heard rumblings of this for a while,
01:16does tell you how serious a potential threat this is.
01:19And I think it is going to attract a lot more scrutiny from policy makers.
01:24Clearly, a lot of this stuff is going to just continue in the background
01:26in the military kind of focus anyway.
01:30So it's kind of really how do you kind of constrain that development
01:35so that we're managing the risks, as the risks are there.
