00:14Greetings, comrades. I'm here in Beijing to report to you about the joint military exercise being conducted by the United
00:24States, South Korea and Japan this week in international waters south and east of Jeju Island.
00:32This is the fourth edition of Freedom Edge, which began in September the 7th and will run throughout September 11th.
00:42The drills include air, naval and cyber operations, as well as missile defense exercise.
00:51Six destroyers are taking part along with maritime patrol, aircraft and fighter jets.
00:57Pingyang has condemned the drills and warned that we will take countermeasures describing them as a threat to the security
01:07of the Korean Peninsula and in the region.
01:10This comes as North Korea continues to strengthen its military capabilities.
01:16The country recently commissioned its second destroyer, weighting around 5,000 tons, with the capacity to carry out missions related
01:29to its nuclear response.
01:31But regional tensions go beyond the Korean Peninsula.
01:37Beijing is also concerned about the growing military role of the United States and Japan in the region.
01:47Washington continues to supply weapons to Taiwan, while Tokyo is rapidly increasing its military spending and debating a revision of
01:58its pacifist constitution.
